Cleveland: 2005 Mayoral Election
Now that Jackson has won, does anyone have a sense of what will become of Chris Ronayne? From my somewhat distant perspective it seems he makes good things happen. I would hate to see the City lose him.

Is is Johnson Court? Is it? Is it?

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
Don't get me wrong...it's a different design, but I like the variety also. People were talking about the base of the building being weird...and I'm just saying hey it's all weird, but thats cool.

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
The whole building is a little odd in that location, attached to the old building and in light of the style of the previous phases. renderings are nice, but untill built, who knows exactly how it will fit in. Still, I like it.

DFAS Cleveland
Even occupancy of existing stock is great news in a soft d-town market. Does everyone recall the original name for this thread? It was 'Very bad news for Cleveland'. Now we have gained 300-500 new jobs and possibly several hundred more. The city, state and local reps should keep pushing for any additional jobs from the centers that are closing. Earlier, in the Quicken jobs thread I asked how many sq. ft. are required for 200-300 people. I still don't know...but here again we are looking at absorbing or creating space for that number.

DFAS Cleveland
'At least 200 additional jobs'. Also, the note that Cleveland is prepared to accept additional jobs by providing a 'new building'. Lots of possibilities here. More good news!

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I agree with GoTribe. Don't force Sampsel out. If and when they move, the building will still be there. Wolstien's comment re. Sampsel seemed to indicate that they would accomadate their needs. What about this proposed office buliding. W/out a tenant, I don't see it happening.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Heard a blurb this morning that Wolstien was going to unveil a revised project plan today. Anyone seen or heard anything? My impression was it was not a major revision, but I'm curious about it.

Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
I have biked the trail from Peninsula into the city...and also parts of it south of Akron. It is a nice ride and another asset to the people in norteast Ohio. But, 'change the direction of downtown', might be a reach.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Without a doubt, the re-election campaign is a factor. However, it seems to me that a lot of business has been taken care of since Chris Ronayne was hired. That is only my sense from afar...but what does everyone else think?

Akron-Canton: General Business & Economic News
Newell took Rubbermaid headquarters out of Wooster and left behind 150 shipping employees. Over 1000 jobs....white collar and blue. Rubbermaid was born in Wooster and thrived there for 60 years. Newell will never thrive anywhere.

DFAS Cleveland
Bush signed off on the board recommendations for DFAS. The 1500 jobs are definite now.

Quicken Loans expanding to Cleveland
I still am curious as to how many sq. ft 350 people need. I am sure it is far less than the available space at higbees, but is it too much for any other rehab space in the area or does it merit possible new construction?
-
Quicken Loans expanding to Cleveland
How much space in square footage is needed to house 350 people? What is available in the Gund neighborhood that would fit that need? Does anybody see any new construction now or in the future from this?
-
Quicken Loans expanding to Cleveland
We need more info. great news...but where will they be housed? higbee bldg, possibly? Hopefully 300 new jobs is the first step in an exodus from Detroit.

Amherst: Cleveland Quarries
Hey, a new golf course benefits everybody!

DFAS Cleveland
From all reports, the willingness to build a new facility with less rent was a consideration. Now with possibly 400 additional jobs, new construction seems likely to me. The plain dealer mentioned two possible sites in the flats.. Wolstein's project would certainly be one of the possible sites. The other...who knows? Even if they stayed in the fed bldg, it's a great boost to the plans on that side of downtown.

DFAS Cleveland
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! good job Steve LaTourette..and everyone involved. Look for discussion now about a new home for these jobs. Possible new construction in flats.

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
As you may recall, the developers were going with more glass on this new building so as to be less disruptive of the views. It will be interesting how they incorporate the old cantina bldg and somehow relate to the phase I-IV buildings. Although I agree with Mayday re. the monotony of a single style, I don't want to see something that is too totally out of context with the rest of the project. Somehow they must tie all these aspects together...architectually.

DFAS Cleveland
It is an awkward situation for Ohio reps...balancing the interests of two cities. The real goal is to have more than three DFAS centers. Supposedly Cleveland is the fourth place center.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I say if you buy the team and pay the fee you can name it anything you want. That's the way it works!! I still reserve the right to hate it. Now if they do open a center in town with 300-500 new employees then we'll all be happy.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Remember the dark days of early May? NASA Glenn losing jobs, DFAS leaving, District Park canceled, Pinnacle bungling, Indians losing. It's been a remarkable 3 months....except for the Indians.

Cleveland: Office Max News & Info
There was an open letter from Jane Campbell in this morning Plain Dealer. Sorry I don't have it to post...but it was a discussion of the regional cooperative effort to keep office max and the DFAS jobs in the region. In short, Saker and Cleveland cooperated to either locate the offices in Shaker or downtown, with a plan to re-develope the shaker campus if Office Max moved downtown. Of course it's an election year, but it is good to see some regional cooperation...and it would be great to get Office Max in the Higbee bldg. Regarding the DFAS jobs, more hearings have exposed Defense Dept bias against the Cleveland office. The good news is that it is a very transparent and lame effort which has been recognised by the right people.
