Cleveland: Ontario Pointe Office Building
At one time there was going to be some sort of tickettron outlet on that parcel. It's a small island...can't imagine how a large building would fit in.

DFAS Cleveland
The commission reviewing the BRAC recomendations has unanimously voted to re-visit the pay center reallignment. The chairman of the commission personally visited with the Ohio reps and apparently indicated that Cleveland has a good chance of keeping the existing DFAS jobs. It appears that if Cleveland survives that additional jobs might be possible. There will still be closures and transfers of jobs which would likely go to the surviving centers. Rep. LaTourette said that Cleveland is not home free yet but that there are reasons to be optimistic. Possible very GOOD news for Cleveland

DFAS Cleveland
This is only step one in overturning the BRAC recomendation. It is heartening that this comittee has recognised the errors and just plain manipulated data that had been used earlier. I think this decision is huge. Not only is it 1,200 jobs downtown, but there is the potential that future reorganizing could bring more jobs. Curious that the Wolstein building has barely been mentioned in these discussions. Again economics is a major concern and the new building was reported to be at less cost than the current digs. That building seemed like an after thought in the Wolstein project...but it could very easily be the anchor to it all.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
That was a perfect description of Snickers! Imagine how the place might change with hundreds of new neighbors.

Cleveland: 2005 Mayoral Election
I'm not sure where Rosecliff Rd is...but what's the deal with the Cleveland mayor. It seems that half of the candidates are not from Cleveland. one guy was from shaker, this latest guy is the former mayor of Euclid. This isn't New York is it?

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
Agree or disagree with the dogma...but city of Columbus cannot be bullied, blackmailed or strongarmed like this. Take the high ground and send them somewhere else.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I stopped at Snickers to have a drink Friday night. The manager there told me that they would be breaking ground for the first homes 'next month'.

Cleveland: 2005 Mayoral Election
How about Chris Ronayne for mayor...untill Good Day gets to town

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
Very nice look to those buildings. I'm wondering how much they will obstruct the views for the existing units and the restaurant. Where would the townhouses be located?

Cleveland: Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station Redevelopment
I am so old that I actually went to the coast guard station the year that Jacob's had it open. you had to get on a boat somewhere over west of the old stadium. I remember the night we went was very windy and kinda scary in a small boat. the station was like a big outdoor clambake...bad food and cheap beer, but the sights were great. as I recall the society ( Key ) tower was under construction, with naked steel frame up about 30 floors. sure looked cool from that location. If there is going to be anything done out there, there will have to be access other than by boat!!

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
I ate dinner at Ponte Vecchio, the restraunt off of the viaduct and I really enjoyed the use of the old brige and deck. Stonebridge wraps around both sides of the bridge. I can't tell how 'chintzy' they are inside...but I did not like the use of the sheet metal type siding on parts of the exterior. The phase 5 project sounds much more upscale. Criticisms aside, it is a remarkable thing to see housing on this scale at that location and it's a pleasure to see the old viaduct being used. Bodes well for the Wolstien project also.

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
You know if you can get past being inside a mall, Wild Mango..formerly Weia Teia is a nice place. Once you get inside the restaurant you forget you're in the mall. And the food is great. btw, a place has to serve a good drink to get my repeat business...and Wild Mango qualifies.

DFAS Cleveland
I know I shouldn't be too optimistic, but there is a real effort being made to retain the DFAS jobs. Rep Latourette rightly pointed out that there was NOT an economic benefit to moving these jobs...and that was before the city began offering ways to cut costs. there will be politics in the decision making, but it's hard to ignore real numbers when the goal is to save money. I believe that this week there is going to be some serious meetings with defense dept folks. Let's hope that our local reps don't let us down.

CLEVELAND - Pinnacle update!
Hopefully this will solve the problem...but don't you wonder what is going on with this project? First it moves along at a snail's pace ( Feb '05 was original completion ) and how or why do you start this project with this rather large issue unresolved? It's good to have people like Georgalis around, but maybe he should have hired a project mgr., plus Pinnacle construction is supposedly holding up the start of Johnson Court. By the way, Chris Ronayne seems to be a get it done sort of guy, doesn't he?

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
NPR had a report that the city was helping to lure a new tenant to the vacant Higbee building. The tenant was described as a company with 600 employees that was considering leaving the area. sketchy info, but.........

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Agreed, this is a little too suburbanish ( is that a word?) for the location...not that I don't want to see it happen an be successful. By the way, of all the drawing board or proposed projects in Cle, which do you think is most important or would have the greatest impact. There are a dozen or more currently being discussed in this forum. Personally, I think if this project can persuade the Defense Finance jobs to stay in Cle, it would be the most crucial. Number one fantasy project would be Peter Lewis deciding that his company should move downtown with his several thousand employees. How would everyone else rank these?

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
to me the best places means good food, decent prices and comfortable atmosphere. Like MayDay, i could go for days...but briefly, I like the Tremont, Ohio City area. Lots of great places that meet my criteria. One of my favorites is a little under the radar...Fat Cats in Tremont. Here's a few more west side spots. Halite, Snickers, Three Birds in Lakewood. MGD would probably love Johnny Mango on Fulton Rd. Believe me, I could go on.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Today's PD reports on the squabble between Commissioners and Juvi Court Judges. Judges want the Court to remain downtown, commiss want to move to E 93rd. Since the Commissioners are going to add new construction at the AT site wouldn't that be an ideal solution for the Court? The AT rotunda would certainly set the decorum that the court would want and I've seen several courts that worked perfectly in multi function high rises...The Ohio Supreme Court did for years. Plus this will get the AT project moving much quicker

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Wasn't there some talk a while back that some of the E 12th street action would include residential specifically catering to gays? Not sure exactly what that involves, but apparently it's an untapped market in Cleveland.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
I'm happy to hear that the AT site was chosen, but wonder why they would choose it if they knew that they would have to tear down the existing tower. I can understand rehab costs but what might it cost to bring down a 28 story building (without damaging the rotunda)? Without knowing more I would favor the re skinning along with the proposed 15 floor addition.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
If any of you have ever eaten at Snickers..especially on the patio there, you can really see the cleared site for these houses. Great views and great news.

DFAS Cleveland
according to the plain dealer, there was nothing to be done during the evaluation period....now is when the schmoozing starts. I agree it's an uphill battle, but glad to have SOMETHING to offer them. If , in fact economics is the bottom line, we still have a chance. me thinks the problem is politics.
