Well, this ^ is encouraging. :drunk:

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Why doesn't Smitherman ever show up to any of the groundbreakings, events like World Choir Games pressers, or anything positive? Isn't he happy about developments such as dunnhumby, the casino, and things like that. Virtually every other councilmember shows up for those events, why doesn't he?

TKILTBAG isn't struggling and every time I see it it's literally jam-packed. The issue here is Tin Roof. Apparently Toby Keith's feels their lease was violated when The Banks brought in a competing country music venue, which Tin Roof sort of is. So the matter is going to court. But, as usual, the negative media in this city took liberties with the story and the "struggling to make it downtown" angle spread like wildfire. Cunningham today was trashing Toby's, saying it was about to close and that it's pretty bad down there when businesses can't hold off another month or so until baseball season. Typical WLW trash.

I'm sure you do smell a rat, Cranley. That's your stink and that of Sloan and the WLW studios.

Amazon's show on a Friday night? So that was heard by what ... 17 people?

Why do the new intersections have traffic lights dangling from wires? Most of the rest of downtown has fixed pole traffic lights, but here we have the obnoxious wires with the bouncing lights. I've noticed the same thing at The Banks. The wire traffic lights outside Holy Grail at the entrance to GABP are hideous. Why not do it right at construction and install the fixed lights we see elsewhere downtown?

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
Half of those "endorsements" are probably albatrosses. And what, exactly, has WLW championed recently that actually won at the ballot box?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I think I'd rather listen to a sputtering lawnmower struggling to cut exceptionally high grass. And nice way that Thomas worded his poll question, making the city out to be either the bad guy or the loser in this whole thing.

Unfortunately for Cranley, 97 percent of WLW's listeners can't vote in the city. He can rail against the streetcar all he wants to the Mason and West Chester crowd to no avail. Incidentally, I turned on Cunningham's show for about 5 minutes while I was in my car about an hour ago. I heard a Super Bowl power outage conspiracy theory where the NFL orchestrated it to break up what was at the time a blowout game. And I heard some lady bragging about hunting in Montana and shooting to death a 20-year-old mother bear, calling it one of the highlights of her life. Seriously, the station should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

He could run against all the recent winning by the Reds and Bengals (and the expected good seasons by both next year), which is upping attendance and leading to congested downtown streets, less available parking and overcrowded restaurants/bars.

Now that Duke has agreed to start work, construction is moving ahead on all fronts. Meanwhile, Cranley says the city is rushing forward too quickly, and he is committed to halting progress if elected mayor. This is just hysterical. Too quickly? This entire project has moved at a snail's pace for years and apparently that's "too quick" for Cranley? Good god ... why does this city have to have so many enemies and villains?

I know we're a ways off from knowing any street-level retail tenants, but that's what I'm most interested in at this point. I'm sure we'll have at least one or two restaurants in this block-long building, but I hope there is substantial retail too. And for those pining for an Apple Store in the second phase of The Banks, I think the Dunnhumby Centre is a much more logical - and realistic - location for that. It would fit in with the creative nature of the building and be much more convenient to downtown shoppers, hotel visitors, etc. It would also be a boost to Macy's and even Saks.

Miamisburg / Springboro: Austin Landing
It'll fill up, no doubt. But this is how development has happened for years. Access, retail/office space, tract homes nearby, etc. Nothing new to see here. It's very underwhelming though. I'm with RockyMountainHigh on this one. But the interchange was sorely needed, both for Springboro and Miamisburg. And a large portion of southern Centerville too. Austin shaves at least 5-7 minutes off travel time south on 75.

Miamisburg / Springboro: Austin Landing
Austin Landing really isn't bringing anything to the area that isn't already there. It's just shuffling the deck of cards. ... The Dayton Mall/725/741 area is jam-packed with just about every restaurant and retailer you could want. Menard's just opened not two miles from Austin Landing. Sorry, but I'm just not seeing anything new or exciting coming, other than a second Dublin Pub. I mean, really ... Kohl's? Kroger? What's the big deal?

I wonder if that lot could be used for future convention center expansion? As for Fifth and Race: When the Nordstrom was originally targeted to build a store at the site in the late 90s/early 2000s, what was the scope of that building supposed to be? It's possible that we're getting a taller building with the dunnhumby HQ than we ever would have got if it went Nordstrom.

Outstanding news! Hey Cranley, Blabberman, Barry Worstman, WLW and TOAST: Bwahahahhahaha!

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Debbie Downer ^ I would think that these restaurants, particularly the national chains, did their homework and aren't just coming in with complete ignorance of the other restaurants in the Banks/downtown.

There's actually one more space to fill. The SW corner space (closest to the Suspension Bridge, near the Smidlapp Event Lawn stage) remains available. And that would seem to have restaurant written all over it also.

Why doesn't Smitherman ever show up to anything that's positive for downtown/OTR, like today's dunnhumby USA groundbreaking? He's never at anything like tree-lightings, groundbreakings, project announcements. The only time you ever hear from him is when he's flaming away on WLW (I'm not sure anyone listens to 55KRC - I sure don't - so he's even more irrelevant there).

This building, at least from what was released today, seems very Washington D.C. in scale. That's not a bad thing, though I would have preferred more height.

Where did you see this? It still shows as $440 round trip for me. I was really considering flying out to Denver for the Reds vs Rockies, and because I've never been there, and $200 round trip each makes it about the cheapest place to fly to from Cincy. If Delta is matching the price though, I may just fly with them because of my frequent flyer miles. And thus ... the vicious cycle continues. Lather, rinse, repeat. Enjoy your six months at CVG, Frontier. After they're gone, we can get back to complaining about Delta's $450 flights to Denver and why we don't have a low-cost carrier here. :x
