Columbus: Downtown: Millennial Tower
Would a living wall work in such a scale instead of a video wall? Love the proposal, though the parking and video board I think are a tad much. Hopefully with some fine tuning a truly great building will rise from the ground there.

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
CMH_Downtown replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat was quick. This is actually something I wish the city and downtown civic associations would do with all the alley streets in Columbus (Pearl, Wall, Lynn, Noble, etc). I think it would be a nice way to create something relatively unique to Columbus and the downtown area. Keep it coming!

Grandview Heights: Developments and News
CMH_Downtown replied to JohnOSU99's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAgreed with all of the above. It would have been nice to add to the urban fabric, but given the Dublin Rd. corridor is pretty fast-moving as far as traffic flow, the developers probably decided a big-box center development would be the best complement.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
CMH_Downtown replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOne has to wonder whether Pizzuti is going for 12 stories with the anticipation of the community organizations involved in scrutinizing the proposal likely demanding its shortening. Taking bets on the final product being a 5-story brick blah; though would loved to be proven wrong. Either way, glad to see the continued vertical ascent of the Short North.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Exactly. Most airline corporate real estate departments take distances between assets into great consideration. Even though the facility is newer, its relative isolation is a huge deterrent. If CLE were to create access from the head house to Concourse D via a tunnel or other means it might help change things, however check-in desk location would remain incrementally poorer as one moves north along the head house regardless. Wasn't concourse D designed for this to happen easily? I thought it was designed for conversion to mainline jets whenever that would be needed. I believe only the end RJ gates are readily capable to handle mainline aircraft. Even if the East side fingers used for propeller-driven aircraft were to be removed and replaced to handle larger planes, I'm not sure if there's enough room for aircraft to taxi in and around the concourse. Not to mention the concourse itself would be stretched for interior space if all current carriers consolidated there as its only slightly wider that the banjo neck of the C Concourse.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Lots of good discussion here lately. Everyone is "right" in some form or another. Me personally, I've always enjoyed my travels through Hopkins. It's incredibly convenient both the terminal layout (D gates were a bit of a hike for local O&D) and location in and access to downtown and the entire metro. Yes the concourses, particularly A & B, are a bit downtrodden, but it's not a deterrent in the least. And the AirMall, particularly the food outlets, are fantastic. As opposed to most airports where I wouldn't be caught dead ordering an overpriced, hastily made sandwich, I relish coming into CLE and deciding whether to go to Panini's, The Pub, or Great Lakes to pass the time until the flight. As far as the hand-drawn sign debacle is concerned, I do believe they should be removed immediately if not already. They do look awful, aren't particularly helpful since they do not match the rest of the terminal's way-finding signage and are very susceptible to vandalism. As someone pointed out, it would've been easy and cost-efficient to simply go to a FedEx Store or other sign-making shop and get some temporary signage in place. Hand-written "signage" is simply unacceptable at any large-scale public facility regardless of construction. Imagine something similar hanging at Med Mart! Now as far as the impression the airport makes to visitors, however, can be disconcerting. I recently helped host a bachelor party in Cleveland and met 3 guests from other cities in CLE as I was flying in from NYC. They were flying Delta and I arrived an hour earlier, so I met them in B. I suggested we take the Rapid however they were more interested in getting downtown as quickly as possible, so we took a taxi. I had never taxied into the city, so I was anxious to see how the experience would go. I was very impressed with the ease of the entire process and found it convenient, user-friendly and well worth the price. On the ride in, the other guest quipped about how depressing CLE was and how it made a poor first impression that actually lingered throughout the entire trip. I found that interesting since they had departed from LGA. Granted, the Delta's Terminals C & D are the newer gates at LGA, but I know they've traveled through the CTB and know how lackluster it is. I figured they'd at least be able to appreciate the convenience of CLE. As far as the references to IND are concerned, anyone would love to have a facility like theirs. A simple Google Image search will reveal that. The new IND airport had great timing in that their previous facility was probably in even worse shape than CLE, air traffic at IND was increasing at the time, and that funding was in place for the project before 9/11, the SARS epidemic, and the Great Recession. Though the face lifts in progress for the current facility at Hopkins do look nice. Hopefully similar refreshes are in-store for Concourses A and B.

Columbus, OH - A Fashion Capital?
Fashion can run the gamut from being a popular form of dress to the provocative and cutting-edge, the latter of which is likely more thought of as "fashion" and more attributed to long-standing capitals of Milan, Paris, or NYC. Where Columbus as a city or population falls in the category of being fashionable is debatable and has brought up some good discussion. My personal thought is that Columbus is more of a fashion hub. It's a center of the flow of ideas and products in the industry. The display and the outward marketing of the finished product remains based in the de-facto fashion capitals. I do think, however, that with the city's base as a fashion hub a change in culture to create a more fashionable populace could be easier to accomplish than in other locales. Such trends are already visible via CCAD and events such as Highball. FMMF was supposed to be the breakthrough in creating such a culture, but the follow through has left very much to be desired. I do like the idea of creating more of a "fashion district" though with the nodes of fashion creativity being fairly spaced out among the Northeast suburbs, the CCAD campus, and the OSU UAS/Short North/OSU main, it'd be easier said than done.

Columbus Museum of Art Renovation / Expansion
Nice find on the massing models. I'm not a big fan of the first view; I feel it clashes too much with the original 1931 building. However the renovated 1974 addition and the new wing (as depicted in the 3rd view of the model) looks great.

Columbus, Ohio skyscrapers will be in Idaho by 2060
By 2055, Columbus city limits will have reached the outskirts of Idaho Falls. It makes perfect sense since they'd be next in line for annexation.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
Haha, I certainly do remember those days. And honestly, the cosmetic improvements made since are due for another face-lift. While sterile, the clean and fresh look depicted in the renderings will be a welcome treatment to the building's interior. Columbus Museum of Art Renovation / Expansion
The aforementioned CU article discussion also mentions a new, shared parking garage to be located on Gay St. across from the museum and CCAD. Overall, I like the design of the new addition. It's modern design definitely contrasts with the historic original building, but not so much that it clashes.

Columbus: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Red, White, and Boom! is always held on the 2nd or 3rd so as not to overlap on the suburban displays held on the 4th. I think it's a fantastic setup; the entire metro and beyond celebrates Independence Day downtown the day before, then can enjoy the 4th each in their respective communities. I have very fond memories of heading downtown on the 2nd or 3rd for Red, White, and Boom! and then enjoying the Upper Arlington parade and fireworks at Northam Park on the 4th.

Greater Columbus COTA News & Discussion
I am certainly encouraged by this news. Hopefully due to the already high ridership, relatively low cost, and solid leadership at the transit authority this project won't see the lambasting that previous rail proposals have suffered. My hope is this serves as a catalyst, similar to KCMO, for more support for mass transit, both financially and in terms of ridership.
