  7. Tech jobs go unfilled for lack of skilled workers Sunday, July 24, 2011 03:16 AM By Tim Feran, THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH In a dramatic reversal from the darkest days of the recession, thousands of high-paying information-technology jobs are going unfilled in central Ohio. The problem, affecting big and small companies alike, persists even though the state's jobless rate remains high. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/07/24/tech-jobs-go-unfilled-for-lack-of-skilled-workers.html?sid=101
  8. Mr. Blundo of The Dispatch shares his thoughts on recent news in downtown development: So to Speak | Joe Blundo commentary: Downtown can't thrive by driving people out Sunday, July 24, 2011 03:15 AM The Columbus Dispatch We had a classic outbreak of Columbusness last week. The city that says it wants a thriving Downtown ordered some Pearl Market vendors off the sidewalks, making the market at least temporarily smaller. Meanwhile, COTA held hearings to see what people thought of the call to further deaden street life by moving bus riders away from High Street. It seems that reinvigorating Downtown is something everyone wants, just as long as it doesn't get too vigorous. Columbus' instincts always run toward maintaining order and moving traffic. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/arts/stories/2011/07/24/downtown-cant-thrive-by-driving-people-out.html?sid=101
  9. New urbanism Kroger designs store to blend with Short North streetscape Sunday, July 24, 2011 03:14 AM By Tracy Turner THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH The newest store on N. High Street near the Short North has an entrance just off the sidewalk, big windows and retro signs befitting the neighborhood of art galleries, specialty shops and coffeehouses. Oh, and it's a Kroger. The store, which opens to the public Tuesday, was designed not only to sell area residents milk and bread but to serve visually and commercially as a bridge between the expanding development that is starting to link the Short North and the Ohio State University campus area. 11. Development update from The Dispatch: Gahanna's Creekside Sunday, July 24, 2011 03:14 AM By Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH No decisions have been made on a couple of high-profile projects. A new owner for Gahanna's Creekside development should emerge in the next few months, as that property makes its way through the process of foreclosure and sale. Huntington Bank moved to foreclose on the property in February, citing the default on more than $30million worth of loans on the property by Stonehenge Co. and its affiliate, Gahanna-Creekside Investments. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/07/24/parks-success-inspires-neighbor.html?sid=101
  12. It looks like we're a step closer to filling more empty storefronts. Kudos also to Arshot for revamping the facade of the Fifth Third building facing the commons! Development update from The Dispatch: Park's success inspires neighbor Fifth Third building owner in talks to fill vacant storefront Sunday, July 24, 2011 03:14 AM By Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH The Fifth Third building at S.High and State streets has had a front-row seat to the opening and early success of the Columbus Commons park just to its south. Now, the building's owners hope to capitalize on that energy by adding a new plaza and new retailers along High Street. "Downtown has made such huge strides," said Bill Schottenstein, principal of Arshot Investment Corp., which is the lead owner and manager of the building. "Now we're putting the icing on the cake, but you don't want the cake to get stale. You have to build on momentum." http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/07/24/parks-success-inspires-neighbor.html?sid=101
  13. Development update from The Dispatch: Grandview Yard Sunday, July 24, 2011 03:14 AM By Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Nationwide Realty Investors and members of the Grandview Heights Planning Commission agreed on Wednesday to delay the developer's presentation on adding apartments to its 10-month-old Grandview Yard project. Since only three of the five commissioners were present at the meeting, it would have required an affirmative vote from all three to move forward. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/07/24/parks-success-inspires-neighbor.html?sid=101
  14. Welcome and wonderful first post, vidgms. I would certainly agree with all that you said, especially you last paragraph. I would say Columbus is getting back to the "crawling" stage of development. We've seen many projects take place around the city that 10-15 years ago would have been unheard of. Hopefully the momentum continues to build to get us walking and running to bigger and better things.

Westerville-based Triad Architects hopes to move its offices to the site at 463 N. High St. in the fall of 2012. The company also plans to renovate the top three floors of the five-story building into upscale one- and two-bedroom apartments. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/07/01/yankee-trader-building-sold-apartments-restaurant-planned.html?sid=101 Yankee Trader building sold with offices, restaurants, apartments on tap Business First - by Brian R. 17. With Nationwide putting their moniker on one of their buildings, I think all high-profile non-government towers in Columbus have a corporate name/logo on them, except Three Nationwide... Shop Talk Nationwide to see its name up in lights on HQ tower Business First - by Brian R. Ball Date: Friday, July 1, 2011, 6:00am EDT - Last Modified: Thursday, June 30, 2011, 4:11pm EDT Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. will soon join other corporations with their names lit up on the downtown skyline. Nationwide will be spelled out in white and the LED lettering’s color can be changed to reflect the season – think green and red during Christmas – or special events, such as pink for breast cancer awareness month. http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/print-edition/2011/07/01/nationwide-eager-to-see-its-name-up-in.html
  18. An article published by The Dispatch describes the current airline trends when adding or enhancing service to and from the cities they serve. While lower fares might not be a direct result of the new flights out of CMH, the increased connectivity and available seats will be a welcomed addition to Port Columbus air service. Port Columbus Competition won't spur big decline in airfares Sunday, June 19, 2011 03:13 AM By Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines both have added flights at Port Columbus - but don't expect lower fares because of it. In the past, the entry of the low-cost airlines JetBlue, Skybus Airlines and AirTran Airways into the Columbus market prompted existing, competing carriers to respond by cutting ticket prices. But the route additions by existing carriers don't have the same effect. Instead, they illustrate how airlines have become increasingly strategic in where they'll add flights, cherry-picking only those routes that they think will be most lucrative. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/06/19/competition-wont-spur-big-decline-in-airfares.html?sid=101
  19. A rendering and more information from the CVG website at: http://www.cvgairport.com/terminals/A_Plan.html I'm so happy this renovation and consolidation is finally confirmed. Terminal 2 is, quite frankly, an outdated relic. Housing all airlines under the Terminal 3 roof will allow for a much easier and convenient flow of passengers, as well as a much nicer facility. The renovation will also increase available space for new entrant carriers. From - http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20110620/BIZ01/306200095/ My hope is that the former Union Terminal murals in T1 are relocated into the renovated Concourse A, they would certainly look nice there.
  20. I'm getting really excited about this restuarant. I love CBC, and it looks like they are taking the best from their current restaurant and incorporating it into the riverfront venture. Very much looking forward to its opening. Comfort food + view New dining spot, scheduled for grand opening this summer in Bicentennial Park, will take advantage of riverfront setting to attract both families and happy-hour crowds Tuesday, May 17, 2011 03:06 AM By Denise Trowbridge FOR THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH The glass walls are up, the floors are in and the menu is almost complete. The opening of Milestone 229, the centerpiece restaurant in the new Bicentennial Park and the Scioto Mile riverfront park, is just around the corner. Details of the restaurant's design and menu are finally starting to surface ahead of the July 7 grand opening. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/05/17/comfort-food--view.html?sid=101
  21. After checking out Yellow Brick Pizza and the Angry Baker a few weeks ago, I am completely infatuated with OTE and it's blossoming retail business. I will certainly have to patronize this latest entrant.
  22. Today's Dispatch article would lead on to believe that Franklinton is where the city is putting the most effort in drawing in the artistic community in Columbus... http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2011/05/17/work-begins-on-latest-hot-place.html?sid=101
  23. Pretty cool map showing migration trends among U.S. counties provided by our favorite source: forbes.com. http://www.forbes.com/2010/06/04/migration-moving-wealthy-interactive-counties-map.html Now, the site does say info is taken from the IRS.
  24. Not published, but also new at CMH: American Eagle will expand their maintenance base in Columbus to begin work on their expanded fleet of 63-seat CRJ-700 aircraft. In addition to the new jobs, AA will place these larger aircraft on flights from CMH to ORD, JFK, and LGA that are currently flown with 37-50 seat ERJ aircraft. Also, current schedules show AA bringing the DFW route to all mainline aircraft 5x a day by June of next year.
  25. New concessionaires will be added to CMH next year. Airport adding Tim Hortons, Auntie Anne’s to dining mix Business First - by Dan Eaton Date: Wednesday, November 24, 2010, 12:58pm EST Port Columbus is shuffling a few eateries and making over another long-standing (sitting?) restaurant as it refines its dining mix. The Columbus Regional Airport Authority on Tuesday approved a three-year extension of its deal with Host International Inc. to run its concession operations, which takes the agreement to the end of 2020. http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/blog/2010/11/airport-adding-tim-hortons-auntie.html
