  1. ^ a bicycle would be better Gov. Kasich is wanting to do away with paying "prevailing wage" on public projects. If he passes this this year, could that cut streetcar construction costs much?
  2. More on that poll from City Beat "CityBeat was contacted by a woman who was called to participate in the poll. Although she asked that her name not be used, she is a 58-year-old, recently retired credit union manager who lives in College Hill." "It didn't seem to me that it was a poll. It seemed to me like propaganda.." http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-1773-polls-questions-and-minimum-standards.html

Whenever I hear Ron Jeremy, he actually tends to come off as kind of interesting. He's done a few reality TV shows and his latest movie appears to be a spoof of reality TV involving competing food trucks, Flying Pink Pig. He talks about it here: http://blogs.laweekly.com/squidink/2011/01/ron_jeremy_speaks_out_on_flying_pink_pig_controversy_thanks_for_suing.php After reading Secret Agent 666, I have started on Al Crowley's "Confessions". Gave up on Byzantium, Latin Romania and the Mediterranean. Romania wasn't Romania.

Finally finished Route 66. The show was shot on location in 61 - 63. About 4 episodes in Cleveland. Not much at all along Route 66. The creator, Stirling Silliphant has written tons of stuff.
  5. Schuler's Bakery & Young's Dairy agree to sell each other's stuff and Schulers expands retail outlets, shifting production from Main St to S Limestone. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/schulers-to-open-limestone-street-bakery-and-store-1079131.html
  6. The Fishwrap's new commenting system allows "voting" up AND down now. In the past streetcar opponents would have no "likes", now they get negative "scores". Smitherman is now warning citizens that in the event of a snow emergency, PEOPLE WILL DIE because too much of the city budget will be diverted to the streetcar thus underfunding snow removal.
  7. New candidates started reporting their campaign fund raising. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2011/02/01/raising-cash-for-council-race/ P.G. Sittenfeld raised $100,000. Chris Seelbach raised $36,000. Jason Riveiro raised $5,310
  8. Berding is resigning. Council support for the streetcar is running about 50/50 now. His replacement is kinda critical. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2011/01/27/who-should-replace-berding/ I believe Flynn is pro-streetcar. He can certainly see it's advantages for the handicapped.
  9. COA T is promoting a letter writing campaign to governor Kasich & DOT head Wray urging the cancellation of state funds for the streetcar, among their suggested bullet points was: "3) There is NO PLAN at all to fund the cost of operations of the project, which former SORTA Board Memebr Stephan Louis estimates to be $10-$12 million per year" These are the addresses they are suggesting: [email protected] [email protected] & a cc to [email protected] is requested.
  10. Well, it's not Republican, either. New site. Pretty much empty. Dedicated to Clifton Food Options. http://www.cliftonfoodsolutions.org/
  11. Groeber's, in Springfield, closes after 56 years. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/groebers-closes-after-56-years-1063270.html

Clark County Memorial hall (love that shot) will be replaced with a skating rink. The facade has been saved but there are no serious plans for re-erecting it anywhere.
  13. The IGA in Northside turned into a Sav a Lot or something. Could be the future of Keller's. Seems like the state would benefit by urging Keller's to apply for bankruptcy.
  14. I think the Greens oppose the "genrification" aspect, too.
  15. Affirmative. He lives on Hamilton between Northside & College Hill. He's essentially a neighbor. He was on the SORTA board for years yet I NEVER saw him on the bus. His condo has a bus stop out front. That's not for the "good people", tho, it's for the underpaid help. You might say he's an elitist.
  16. Anybody in Hamilton County can use Media Bridges to get on local access cable (Time Warner). Sillyman uses it all the time. You have to attend an orientation seminar & then go thru 1 or 2 of their very easy training classes to familiarize yourself with the equipment. If anybody is interested, I would be glad to help. I would have to do one of the classes again because it has been a few years since I did it before. http://www.mediabridges.org/ It's free.

Agreed. It may have been true in the 80s and most of the 90s, but not so much any more. Having gone to school for a degree in Interactive Multimedia Technology from 2000-2003 and working various jobs in the creative sector from 2003-2007 (mostly graphic design & web design but also doing some video edited, flash animation, light programming and scripting, and plenty of digital photography) I personally found that both educational and real-world environments mostly use a mix of both Windows and Mac platforms. That may not be the case for some creative firms that work more exclusively on either PC or Mac, but generally speaking, Photoshop is Photoshop and PSD files have generally played pretty nice cross-platform for over a decade now. I'm sure the same holds true for most creative software. When it comes to creative professionals, the Mac VS Windows debate is primarily a personal preference-based argument rather than a functionality-based argument. You can easily accomplish the same tasks on both platforms with (generally) the exact same software. Apple lost a lot of the Macromedia & thus Flash crowd in the days prior to Jobs' return.
  18. Redmond or Molly's would have been ok.
  19. Thanks. I'm glad some folks in this state is willing to do its job and expose the linkages between Mainstream Media and those who seek to corrupt the reporting of news fairly and accurately, especially when it comes to urban, transit and rail issues. While I frequently disagree with him, Kevin Osborne is probably the best journalist in Cincinnati.
  20. More from City Bleat: "Back when The Gannett Co. owned The Idaho Statesman, and while Washburn served as that paper's executive editor from 1999-2005, it became embroiled in a controversy involving conflicts of interest and journalistic integrity that caught the attention of The Washington Post and media watchdog groups. The Statesman was criticized for being too deferential to Micron Technologies, one of the largest employers in Boise, Idaho. As Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR) wrote in 2001: “The Idaho Statesman has a curious definition of 'fact checking.' The business editor of the Gannett-owned daily, Jim Bartimo, resigned when he was told that a story he had worked on about Micron Technologies, the area's largest employer, had to be sent for pre-publication 'review'... to Micron Technologies.” Previously The Statesman's business news practices were examined by The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz, in articles from January and February 2000. Kurtz's article revealed that The Statesman reporter covering the Micron beat was married to a Micron employee. When Kurtz asked Washburn about the paper's Micron coverage and whether it was afraid to be too critical, she replied, “It's not that it has anything to do with their being the biggest employer. What we write can affect a lot of people in this community. It can affect the stock price.”" http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-1652-a-bad-omen-for-news.html They also mention: "Last year, in another move that raised media eyebrows, the newspaper (Enquirer) named Josh Pichler — the son of Joseph Pichler, Kroger's retired chairman and CEO — as business editor. The elder Pichler remains fairly influential in business circles, including trying to drum up opposition behind-the-scenes to the city of Cincinnati's proposed streetcar system." I have not heard anything about Pichler & the streetcar. Seems like kroger would like another neighborhood to sell to.
  21. Been there. Did a bar hop from Central Parkway & Findlay to north Northside after work one night. Amazingly, the place was hoppin'. Waitress was kind of hot in a weird middle aged 16 tons o make up & support everything kind of way. Crowd wasn't entirely gross. Hotel mgmt used to seek out young ladies to hang out by the hotel pool in the summer. Friend of mine tried it a couple times - got creeped out. You're not missing anything.
  22. Food Feuds in Cincinnati 12/30 10PM Food Channel. Instead of downtown, filming is in real live NEIGHBORHOODS ! Ice cream in Oakley & Hyde Park http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101229/LIFE01/12290311/-Food-Feuds-shoot-a-real-hoot

I felt it in Cincinnati. These suckers seem to be getting more frequent. I am pretty sure this is leading up to the end of the world in 2012.
  24. I went to a wedding & reception there years ago & the museum area was open, too. Had a beer on a streetcar.

MyTwo, Al bundy was a fool. Still, I prefer this version: Saw this Lois Smith chick on an old Route 66 & found her really striking/compelling. The alternately sparkling / flashing eyes & the kinda crooked smile... gah Turns out I had already been watching her on True Blood, tho, as granma Adele. A 50+ career in TV is pretty good.
