Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
This is an incredibly bad move. When ridership into Cincinnati lags it will be very hard to justify additional spending to create an improved station. Mt Adams concerns were absurd. One lady at the meeting, who lives on Eastern Avenue, said the noise from the current trains was no worse than the noise from the bars in Mt Adams.

Taking out the word "issue" might free up some room & make it a little more readable. Also, I wouldn't push the nein thing a whole lot because a lot of people in town connect anything German to Nazism & racism.

^ Correct. The Hammonds North. There was even a bus stop at the entrance. But that was for "the help". And my time using Metro began while he was on the board. He needs to move up the hill to Twin Towers.

no apologies necessary. Luken lives, or used to live, in College Hill. We would have used the same bus route but I never saw him on the bus.

Mark Miller is treasurer Chris Finney is Chief Counsel Jason Gloyd is Cahairman I think Mr Miller has been the spokesperson because he is the only one who lives in Cincinnati. They probably don't share information with one another because they are terrified of being captured and tortured by ~shudder~ liberals.....

I would move the Northside station over to the east side of Hamilton & have access in the proposed retail area over by the proposed American Can apartments.

Streetcar Lifespan Question I have heard estimates of streetcar life spans of something like 25-30 years. I was watching some PBS travel thing and they were talking about European passenger rail cars still in operation since the 1940s. Is it a heavy v light rail car thing ? Are the estimates for the newer cars just more conservative ? What's accounting for the difference ?

Another reason we need streetcars in Cincinnati. We can't rest on our "most dangerous" laurels forever. We must constantly strive to find new dangers to terrorize the masses. I hear the military is looking at flesh eating robots.....

"Earth to Mayor Mallory - come on back to reality. Your city is broke, it was listed as one of the most dangerous to live, people are leaving dead bodies all over the place each day," These people are in fantasyland & enjoy being blowhards behind a mask of anonymity. Just touting facts is about all you can do. Actually, making a "talking points" paper, well, ok probably not on paper but coming up with a list of valid and concise talking points would be a good idea.

LK is right It has been fairly well documented that people tend to not pay attention to opposing poingts of view in the media. The message needs to be taken to the public.

Vice President Joe Biden is headed to American Can Thursday morning to try to impress upon all involved the importance of getting things rolling and to get the project jump started. He'll be holding a press conference. The visit will be Thursday, July 9th at 10am, gates open at 8:30am for security clearances.- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News

Is there any way that we can get a copy of this petition as soon as it is turned in? If they were collecting signatures at the Civil Rights Game, there is a strong possibility that many of those signatures were from people who don't even live in the region. I'm assuming that all 6,500 signatures need to be Cincinnati residents, so if they come in just barely over the mark, it might be worth checking residency/legitimacy of signatures. It would be a good idea to get a copy of the petition signatures and go over them with a fine tooth comb. COAST has done this in the past & successfully blocked ballot initiatives. BTW Anybody notice that posting on the COAST blog puts you on their mailing list ? COAST = SPAM- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The Baptist Ministers Conference was one of the groups called out in Laure Quinlivan's documentary, Visions of Vine, for owning and maintaining blighted unkempt property in OTR.- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Henry jogs south and heads west another block to Dunlap. It kinda continues westward from there - it might have another name. It gets extra narrow. Charlie's Dunlap Cafe is at the SE corner of Dunlap & Henry and would certainly be a major destination for streetcar riders. Seriously, his Jonsey Burger kills anything at Fatburger.- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Which begs the question, why didn't The Cincinnati Beacon blast UC for shutting down the plant and becoming a "coal-burning university in disguise" ? They didn't know. The Beacon gets it's info from the rumors on the street. The majority of what they talk about is probably best described as "urban myth". Think: Alex Jones.- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
local Libertarian talking points: Chris Finney from COAST came to the April 9th Hamilton County meeting to present the case for explicit voter approval for any city funds going to the proposed street car initiative. Several quick points: 1) The city could end up spending a lot of money on preliminary studies and planning, and not get a dime of federal stimulus money to implement this. Federal funding has not been confirmed and the city council has no right to gamble with the peoples tax dollars. 2) If you think that the inner city neighborhood that this passes through will be positively impacted by this, be advised that the NAACP is against the project. 3) If you think that this has any potential to significantly reduce pollution by getting cars off the streets and expanding mass transit be advised that the Green Party is against this. 4) The city is facing declining revenues from the recession and is certain to face budget shortfalls. Any money wagered on this would be better spent on the general budget and necessary services.- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Probably a good way to get face time is hitl the festivals, farmer's markets, parades & stuff that will be occurring around town in the next 8 months. Bockfest is next Friday, but those guys are probably onboard already. As far as printing anything, one way to kinda spread the cost around would be to distribute a PDF online and let people print the document on their own printer (or their boss'). Publishing "talking points" is a good idea to get everyone on the same page.- Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I agree with Lincoln Kennedy. Thing is, people get their information from where they want to. People who listen to Cunningham, Haap, Winburn and Smitherman are not going to go to protransit or the Cincy Streetcar blog for research. Using their mediums will just result in their muddying the issues with circular arguments. I suggest printing up a pamphlet and going out into the neighborhoods and distributing it. There is also local access cable, but I think a printed document will do better. People will pass it around and reference back to it. It needs to address FAQs clearly and the whole notion of how it will generate economic development needs to be explained. - Cincinnati: Northside: American Can Factory Lofts
