  2. While not exactly related to the project, the always hot neighborhood officer Windeler (sp?) reported very low crime for the month of April. The folks in that neighborhood work their asses off in their crime fighting efforts, hopefully their efforts are paying off & it wasn't just the weather. The results they get make me very optimistic for other neighborhoods like OTR with strong grassroots activism.
  3. oh cmon, ink, that's just gonna be so much "preachin to the choir" stuff. There's plenty of cool Luthie churches up in OTR.
  4. Here's the reports http://www.healthfoundation.org/gcchss.html This is just a perception issue. Pretty useless.
  5. jeez You recognized me from that little avatar pic ? man, that place was cold. Tarbell & Cranley did some much deserved cheerleading. There was some guidance of the "tour" A guy said that there were a lot of molds left behind that would likely be used for decoration. I really wanted to get up to the top floor but it was closed off. Anyway, here's the pics I took http://home.fuse.net/christol/AmericanCan/01.html
  6. I was checking out his other gallery of shots taken down in the streets http://shinsato.cool.ne.jp/yakoukaisetu%20E.htm Where ARE all those people ? :-) Some seriously cool pictures there
  7. I have ridden under the influence of any number of intoxicants and their various combinations. I can actually relate to the guy in Rob's story. But once you get going the bike pretty much takes care of itself. Might be kinda hard to keep a straight line, but you are still not rolling around in a ton of steel at 60 mph.
  8. Did you use the bus ? some great pics there.
  9. ""It's a novel of several volumes yet to be written," said Reinhaus." There alreaady is a fairly short book on the subject called "Changing Plans for America's Inner Cities". It has been referenced repeatedly in these forums. The approach Brian Garry espouses is basically the same that was adopted in the '80's that resulted in the declining population, skyrocketing crime and physical deterioration the area is saddled with now. With any luck the historic designations will inspire some investment but I wouldn't expect much else.
  10. So........ how many peop;e are injured by drunk bicycle riders ? Sounds like more of a nanny policy to me.
  11. I intend to be there.

  18. here ya go http://www.northside.net/NCC/index.php But there really isn't any more info there. I really want to check out the view from this building.
  19. I used the fill in the bbox thing. high tech Isn't this the same way I took tests in high school ? Pretty silly filling in that big-ass box with a ball point pen. A wide tip marker would have made more sense. Nothing complicated, just slow and cumbersome.
  20. Talking about density, In Changing Plans for America's Inner Cities it sez: "The plan (1925 Master Plan) also recommended the melioration of the housing problem with special reference to the basin, where conditions had become so acute that social agencies found it "impossible ... to provide anything like a satisfactory solution to the family problems which they are attempting to adjust." The problem stood out most starkly in the lower West End, where "the majority of the colored people" lived with six to twelve people per room crowded into the oldest and most unsanitary dwellings. Here, as in other black enclaves outside the basin, rents had more than doubled and families spent at least one-quarter of their average annual income for rent." It was denser than it looks in the pic !
  21. I'm sorry, I walk past this frequently and those loaves just look an awful lot like turds to me.
  22. Is there an official sign up list/method ?
  23. "What kind of processor do you have ? I'm wondering if it has to do with my oh-so-awesome intel mobile celeron . Edit: Okay I just checked; it gets 1 hour and 5 minutes battery life." 700mhz G3 PPC I am looking at the new Intel Mac laptops, hadn't considered battery life. hm.....
  24. you guys have some lame computers :-) I think I get about 3 hrs I take a fairly short inner city bus and have seen maybe half a dozen people use laptops in 5 years. Then, you gotta have a seat. Seems like it would be a real PITA using a laptop while smoshed into a crowded bus with a bunch of obese people & rambunctious teenagers.
