  1. This is a kinda old article (June) scanned from, I guess, the Springfield News-Sun. The article was cut out of the paper by a friend's mother. A lot of towns have had these theaters. It is cool to see Springfield's last remaining theater back in action. (Well, other than being a seedy bingo hall). As part of last year's annual Holiday in the City, the State Theater on Fountain Ave. was opened for the day as a sanctuary from the cold, where visitors could get warm while viewing such holiday classics as "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Miracle on 34th Street" and "A Chariie Brown Christmas". The opportunity for the theater to again provide film entertainment was provided by Rod Hatield, working with the Center City Association. Hatfield, founder of the fledgling OhIO New Media Center in Springfield, is the native son and Seattle-based expert who has developed a reputation in high tech visual presentations. His Coactive Media company puts on shows for everything from concerts to new product unveilings and art exhibits. 3. A fairly neighborhhody (but not exactly) Independence Day parade & festival. A real grab bag of a parade and, this year, there will be real bands at the festival ! no fireworks, tho. Mark
  4. Pigboy asked (about a month ago) about where the OTR development was. This bldg is directly across the street from the KD Lamp/Moerlein bldg and right around the corner from the Dunlap lofts bldg This area is just a few blocks NW of Findlay Market. There is a bar at Dunlap & Henry, Charlies Dunlap Cafe, that stands to make a fortune during development of these properties. :-) They have a cool beer can collection, too. Mark
  5. Considering how long the site has been a lumber yard, I kinda don't see what all the fuss is about. Walgreens, no matter how it is designed, could bring some much needed life to the area. Currently, thre is a big gap on both sides of Hamilton between the northern & southern part of the business district for pedestrians. A retail business will help to alleviate this & help connect the 2 ends. I agree it is not ideal. And it is worth pressuring them to try to conform with the area's look. My biggest concern is that Walgreens will just bail after about 2 years. Mark
  6. I understand why 3CDC would want to lease the garage but why the square ? Maybe it's the anarchist in me, but do we really want this organization in charge of the square for 50 years ? Do other cities do this ? Mark
