I did a render race using Ray Dream Studio on a Mac & a Dell/Win98 box. The Dell was a bit peppier than the Apple box but the Mac beat the WinDell pretty significantly. It didn't make sense so I looked at what all the PC was running & shut off a ton of crap, reran the render & speed was a lot better. I don't know if all the useless startup programs were set up by M$oft or Dell.
