Here's the interview with Sammarco & Burke about the crime lab & the Mt Airy site. She suggests making it more of a law enforcement center - moving SWAT, Cyber Crime, Narcotics, Dive team out to the facility instead of leasing numerous locations and also free up space at the jail so more inmates can be held. The BOE thing gets more & more ridiculous. http://www.local12.com//entertainment/features/newsmakers/stories/newsmakers-january-26-2014-53.shtml#.Uuky7ijvMUg
  3. I went to a concert at the Albee on a Thursday night in April of 74. Probably got out around 11. The square was pretty active & alive. I lived in Springfield then and it really surprised me. This was around the time Springfield argued that downtowns were dead & commenced to demolish theirs.
  4. They also did work on the fountain
  5. I could do without the 24/7 idiot box. There's plenty of people to watch.
  6. It's supposed to be a public square and the city leased it to 3CDC thus putting a public place into the hands of a private entity. They have scheduled a lot of activity and thus made it kind of 'forced' (?). People have complained about these things but that's nothing to do with layout.
  7. Seelbach wins vegan chili cookoff His secret? sugar Big Barb’s Bourbon Chili “AWARD-WINNING” Vegan Chili Recipe 1) Add two large cans of tomato sauce into a large pot. 2) Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic. 3) Add 3 tablespoons of Colonel De’s “Baby Colonel Style” chili seasoning (found at Findlay Market). 4) Add 2 cans of black beans (rinsed), 2 cans of chili beans, 1 can of garbanzo beans (rinsed), 1 can of corn. 5) Add a couple of dashes of your favorite hot sauce (I use skyline). 5) Add 3/4 cup of bourbon (I use Woodford Reserve). 6) Add 3/4 cup of Maple Syrup. 7) Bring pot to a medium heat. 8) While pot is heating up, dice these vegetables: A) Half a stalk of celery. B) Large yellow onion. C) Green pepper. D) Red Pepper. E) Jalapeño pepper (remove most of jalapeño seeds unless you want chili super hot!) 9) Saute the diced vegetables over medium to high heat in olive oil. 10) Once vegetables are sautéed, add to chili mix. 11) Let chili cook over on low to medium-low heat for several hours. You can also do this in a crockpot. 12) Serve chili. Top with pieces of avocado or your favorite guacamole recipe. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2014/01/27/seelbachs-vegan-chili-wins-parkvine-cook-off/
  8. Well, here's what it looked like in 1910. That's Fountain Square on the right & Tiffany's on the left hand corner as the image looks N on Vine.

game was ok Cincinnati over Wheeling 3-1 No blood stained plexiglass shields around the ice. No fights. Cincinnati seemed to have way more organized defense but whaddaIno? $7.50 beers but they were almost a quart. Interesting crowd - looked near sellout.

On the 1/26/14 Newsmakers, the coroner cites a whole host of county departments that could consolidate into the hospital building besides the BOE. Mainly she cited law enforcement which makes sense. Tim Burke brought up the fact that the coroner's office should be somewhere secure & that didn't mesh well with a very open public agency like the BOE.

  14. per the height limitation & the Bengals - wasn't the height limitation supposed to protect southern views of current downtown buildings?

There's 9 million pictures on the intertubes of cute pets but whenever someone posts online about a lost pet - there seem to be no pictures available.....
  16. More fear mongering... “We can’t put a price tag on the human lives that are at stake, because we don’t have the federal funding we need for this vital Kentucky project.” Sigh. fear mongering & empty promises... but she's better looking than McConnell
  17. The Buzzfeed list included a bar in NOLA, LaFitte's or something. The exterior was kinda cool, they use some weird brick & beam structure, but the interior was cobbled 80s college bar. The service was "^$%* you, you're on Bourbon St, we don't expect you to come back"

Since there hasn't been a post about this in years, this is probably fairly pointless. I am not a sports guy at all but got a ticket to a Cyclones game Saturday night. Is there any reason to get there early? They are going to have fireworks so I will probably die with a few hundred other people as the place burns to the ground.
  20. good lord, the council meetings are like bad late night infomercials with this new council. The Smitty & the Windbag show is insane.

In the last coroners race, the GOP candidate, who I believe is a cousin of Al's, promoted no investment in the lab, saying it was just fine. Meanwhile Al accused Sammarco of all sorts of bogus ethics violations. This could just be a GOP ploy to sabotage any new lab.
  22. This article about the demise of the Piqua Heritage Festival piqued my interest. I agree with the author. These days, there are too few places for positive family interaction, even fewer places to learn about local history and too few opportunities to support local nonprofit organizations. Organizers blamed the termination of the event on “decreased funds and a lack of volunteers.” The festival requires 2,000 volunteers and $90,000 annually. They take strong leadership, communication & a hefty bunch of volunteers to pull off. and $$$ But we need these things to build pride & awareness in our own communities & to sell our communities to outsiders. And I'm not talking about downtown Clevo, Cowtown & Porkopolis but the neighborhoods within these cities. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/news/local-festivals-still-are-thriving/ncx36/
