Springfield: Champion City Guide & Supply! (& El Mundo Coffee)
The old Readmore stores had a ton of Springfield stuff. Plates, spoons, T's, sweatshirts... The Ringside bar design the Supply store has is interesting but the one I went to was a biker bar at the south end of the Arcade. I think it was the old hotel bar. The one they have came later on North or Columbia. Wonder about the other historic designs. The 60s/70s IH logo would probably be more popular. If they had something with the Champion Company crest on it, I'd be shelling out cash in a minute. And I don't mean Champion Reaper.

National Report Criticizes JobsOhio, Other Privatized Agencies Good Jobs First says privatized agencies create scandals, not jobs JobsOhio and other privatized development agencies have created scandals and potential conflicts of interests instead of jobs, claims an Oct. 23 report from Good Jobs First, a research center founded in 1998 that scrutinizes deals between businesses and governments. The report looked at privatized development agencies in seven states, including Ohio, and found that many of the same problems and scandals appear from state to state. http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-5174-national_report_criticizes_jobsohio_other_privatiz.html

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
That's interesting... if Cincinnati moves forward with light rail next, is there any reason we could not use the exact same CAF vehicles to travel between, say, downtown and Sharonville? You would want to gear them differently (higher top speed, less hill climbing ability) and you'd probably want to use the five section or seven section cars, but it would make sense to build a future light rail fleet around a CAF car. It would help with spare parts, maintenance, training, etc. Would the current car barn handle the 5 & 7 section cars?

Cincinnati City Council
Media Bridges is closing down due to lack of funding. I always wondered if that clown, Smitherman, ever helped them out since he used the facilities so much. He has said truly outrageous stuff on local access. He promoted the city using eminent domain to seize vacant properties and then sell them to "responsible" people for a buck. Unconstitutional & expensive as that would be, his singing the Mr Rogers theme as he walked from house to house was the best. Still, he gets endorsed by the home builders & real estate organizations.

I think it's a non-issue, of course the usual hysterical suspects will, but what the heck, they're pretty much preaching to the choir. If the Board of Realtors has an issue with it, that's a different thing - but that's a private organization with their own code of ethics.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
'Citizen journalist' lawsuit dropped for $40K payout City OKs right for public to photograph, record police During the weeks of Occupy Cincinnati – when protesters temporarily took over a small city park to challenge free speech and assembly rules – police arrested dozens of people, including a man named Lloyd Jordan. Unlike the trespass charges that landed most protesters in jail, Jordan was arrested for disorderly conduct, public intoxication and obstructing official business. Jordan argued that he was a citizen journalist documenting the protest when he photographed a couple of undercover officers sitting in an unmarked police vehicle next to the park. The officers got out of the vehicle, arrested the 36-year-old and took his camera, Jordan said. He denied being drunk. More: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20131017/NEWS010702/310170185?

Some friends of mine in Springfield were walking their dog & wanted to smoke a joint but they noticed a guy in the park watching them. Eventually he approached them & identified himslf as being with the local paper & asked if he could use their picture. After they agreed, he left & they got high. Their picture ws posted as a nice young couple walking their dog in a local park. It actually was a kinda nice shot.

Hamilton County Sheriff
Audit blasts 'frozen in time' Sheriff's office The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is “frozen in time” and has failed to properly train its diminishing staff, creating potential life-threatening dangers in the jail and safety concerns for the public it is sworn to protect and serve. Those are the findings of a 17-page, $50,000 audit by Tom Streicher & Scott Greenwood.. County Commissioner Hartman claims audit findings are inflammatory & political. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20131017/NEWS0107/310170130/Audit-blasts-frozen-time-Sheriff-s-office?nclick_check=1
