The Mower Gang: "Anarchy" in Detroit
I think this is like Adopt-a-Park? These civic groups aren't peculiarly American, they were common in Europe, too, especially Germany. When the commies came into Eastern Europe after WWII, they shut 'em down or took 'em over because they wanted to control everything. And, hey, if they can get together to cut the grass - they might be able to take over the country. I would imagine the biggest problem in Detroit would be the US shadow government - the insurance industry.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
These guys might be on to something or maybe just on something A mysterious candidate known as “Citizen Zombie” will file his nomination papers Monday at city hall to push for the construction of a zombie-proof wall around the city. “We were talking about Edmonton’s growth and our ability to manage our growth in a sustainable way. The ruse was, if they put up a wall around the city, the city could no longer push out — it would have to actually push back in.” http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/politics/archives/2013/09/20130922-145304.html

Upward Mobility - Location Matters
A study finds the odds of rising to another income level are notably low in certain cities, like Atlanta and Charlotte, and much higher in New York and Boston. Climbing the income ladder occurs less often in the Southeast and industrial Midwest, the data shows, with the odds notably low in Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Columbus. By contrast, some of the highest rates occur in the Northeast, Great Plains and West, including in New York, Boston, Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh, Seattle and large swaths of California and Minnesota. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/22/business/in-climbing-income-ladder-location-matters.html?src=me&ref=general&_r=1&
