I read Hitman Ennis did a one shot about life in Ireland that was really good - bittersweet. forget the name, tho.
  5. Think it's the city - the paver - who tries to coordinate around their rotation of repaving.

^Loved that line in Kingdom Come - when Wonder Woman kisses Superman goodbye - the writer describes it as diamonds scraping against steel..... :-) Guy who got me into Cormac McCarthy was Garth Ennis, who wrote Preacher for DC or Vertigo or somebody. That series had some good poo.

  9. well, it's a survey on how favorably Ohioans view Ohio cities. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2012/05/ohio-cities-favorability-poll.html Columbus is #1 followed by Cincinnati then Dayton. People hate Youngstown ;-) nobody knows anything about Canton
  10. I found a couple towns with 4% returns for the past year and <1% for the YTD. Here's 5/3 interest rates https://www.53.com/product/rates/search I'm guessing some managers are doing worse than others in Cincinnati. Seems they should have some kind of goal to stay employed. Firing the lot of 'em is kinda crazy.

Now I am reading No Country for Old Men. I took me a bit to get used to his writing style and lack of punctuation (hello Twain), but I am enjoying it. Cormac McCarthy rules Are the 50 Shades books anything like the Anne Rice/A. N. Roquelaure books? starting Elements of Semiology
  12. 2 City Councilmembers want to fire over 2 dozen pension advisers. well, nobody ever accused 'em of being conservative..... http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2012/05/16/councilmembers-ask-to-fire-pension.html "fund managers used by the city received $12 million in compensation last year but produced investment gains of less than 1 percent." I poked around to find how other cities were doing & came up empty. Of course, councilmembers aren't supposed to get involved in this kind of thing but it seems like the City Manager should be able to jockey these managers around. Approx 2 dozen people getting about 12 million? Also I'm not sure what these managers can actually do legally.

Southern Poverty Law Center Hate Map http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/hate-map I have issues with this group but kinda interesting
  14. The Windbag is fomenting fear over the budget in record time. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2012/05/15/winburn-deficit-will-be-15m-to-25m/ Has he managed to create any jobs yet?

Perian, the Quicktime PlugIn is coming to an end http://perian.org/ Hopefully Apple won't break it (if they ever upgrade QT Player again)

semi interesting article about a Buckeye (Dayton/Cincinnati), Irving Babbitt & the state of modern conservatism in America. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/american-burke/
  17. You could give these guys a try http://globili.com/ You'd have to translate to QR code first, tho. I know you didn't want an application but since these guys are local (Cincinnati) it would be really easy to toilet paper their homes if they screwed up the translation.
  18. Northside - the urban Yellow Springs
  19. :-) details?
  20. Somebody just noticed the proximity of the jail. Must be an election year. Jail proximity to new casino raises worries http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20120509/NEWS/305090149&Ref=AR
  21. http://www.thumbtack.com/survey#states All sorts of fun monkey clicking interaction. Comments range from - "the most confusing taxes" to "pretty simple taxes"
  22. "Local businesses and the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce have decided to tie the Upper Valley Mall area and Bechtle Avenue shopping strip together under a new name in an attempt to make the area into a more attractive shopping destination." http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/chamber-renames-mall-bechtle-area-41-crossing-1371520.html I don't get it, the vast majority of these stores are just national chain stores. As far as drawing people from local events - the area is kinda remote from where most of the events are (near the CBD)
  23. Too much grass? Maybe in a car-centric world view. Why shouldn't a resident have access to a lawn? There have been several plans for the area between the building & Hamilton. A shopping center kinda thing with office space included. That Cavel guy was talking about a project. A year or so back a micro brewery was talking bout going in. As the economy has gyrated, plans have kept changing.
  24. this looks like a plain mugging to me - no drug dealing - guy was just pumping gas. http://www.local12.com/mostpopular/story/Caught-on-Camera-Shootout-at-Northside-BP-Station/p476n3c3ukuxj3QgelKV3Q.cspx
  25. Cincinnati's Police Chef recently stated that legalized drugs would still be sold on the black market. Granted, cigarettes, alcohol, and for that matter, TV's & computers are sold on the black market, but that's a serious exception to the min market.
