Are you insane? Still, it probably will go to court & existing industry standards will likely prevail in the city's favor. Cincinnati City Council
Did Smitherman ever come up with that list of streets that haven't had any maintenance in over 25 years? That they would still be recognizable as streets would be pretty impressive.

dude, I can sub for you at the luncheon The Monocle's dissapearance last night appears to have been a glitch Couple quotes from the biz courier - "Many communities have utilities located much closer to their streetcar rails – with no problems." Tim Borchers, owner of Tampa-based City Rail Solutions LLC, said utilities often see streetcar projects as a way to get their aging infrastructure replaced at no charge. "If you went to Europe and talked about the utility thing, they would laugh"

The "Apple Macintosh" Discussion Thread
Mountain Lion review http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/16/apples-mountain-lion-makes-the-mac-more-like-the-ipad/?ref=personaltechemail&nl=technology&emc=cta1 All the messaging crap makes it look like it's gonna be impossible to get anything done. Having no iDevices & no laptop that can run the damn thing, I find myself thinking of Pere Ubu's Heart of Darkness, "I don't see anything that I want".

"Cincinnati Problems"...
^that's what girls look like after going on a date with me! In a recent article on WCPO about shopping local there were very few comments about "you will die if you go to OTR" http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/local_news/Forget-buy-American-buy-local-Local-companies-and-stores-offer-a-variety-of-products Still, I think David's depiction of popular attitudes is pretty rosy.

Public Transit Commuter Use by Region
Cincinnati Business Courier has a listing of public transit use by workers across the US. Cincinnati, Middletown, NKY & IN rank 78th with 2.45% of workers using public transit. Clevo, Elyra, Mentor comes in at 36th with 3.89% Dayton 130 Columbus 132 Toledo 187 Canton 212 Springfield 293 Seems kinda weird to use regions when bus service, AFAIK, is usually not too regional. It really dilutes the numbers. Also, just using work commuters throws out handicapped shoppers & students. I'm guessing Cincinnati & Cleveland proper would be a lot higher %s. Dunno why they didn't lump Dayton & Springfield together. Everybody else does. Dunno what you can see at the site without a subscription: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/morning_call/2012/02/new-york-tops-for-public-transit-use.html

Ed Rothenberg http://www.smartvoter.org/2001/11/06/oh/hm/vote/rothenberg_e/bio.html Paul Naberhaus http://www.smartvoter.org/2000/03/07/oh/state/vote/naberhaus_e/ They do a McLaughlin Group type roundtable show on Media Bridges (local access cable in Cincinnati) hence "McRothenberg". They get Miller & Ken Anderson from WDBZ & some other guy on there too. It's bad - reeeeeal bad.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
McRothenberg Group relies on Mark Miller for facts on streetcar/Duke issues. Paul Naberhaus gripes about suburban streetcar supporters. the dullest minds, worst sources, lamest talk.....

Obama defense budget leaves Wright-Patterson relatively unscathed "President Obama’s 2013 defense budget, released on Monday, appears to leave Wright-Patterson Air Force Base relatively unscathed as the administration gets started on $487 billion in defense spending cuts over the next 10 years." http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/obama-defense-budget-leaves-wright-patterson-relatively-unscathed-1327913.html

the pictures I posted were found doing am image search for "Portland streetcar tracks" in Google. The original is about twice the resolution I posted. Great for print. Honestly, as a kid who hung out on train tracks & hopped the slower ones, being close to rail cars is pretty daggone safe.

rhetorical question #137 Why doesn't Smitherman direct his "accounting" questions at Duke? Is he representing Cincinnati or Duke & Anderson Twp?

Dayton: Random Development and News
Not sure where to post this as it's kinda road related, air related & business & military related. anyway, Blee Road, north of the Springfield airport, needs to be moved to keep the airport viable for military operations. In maintaining this capability hundreds of jobs are promised but kinda dubious. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/450450-new-jobs-could-come-to-springfield-airport-1325816.html The road is immediately north of he end of a runway and, as a kid, it was fun to park there & watch fighter jets take off maybe 20 ft above you. Now that anybody with a camera is a suspected terrorist, tho, I guess that's a no-no nowadays.

Cincinnati: West End: CityLink Center
The old firehouse? A goth/alternate music place, Rakes End, is in that area now - next to Hartke. Alternative music has such a hard time in this "city that sings".

I think you are underestimating the wealth of America's "working poor". But walking across a big parking lot out front is going to really demoralize peds. Shoulda put it around back.
