  3. Resident Files Complaint Against Smitherman "A resident has filed a complaint with the City Law Department, alleging that Christopher Smitherman’s dual role as a Cincinnati city councilman and president of the NAACP’s local chapter constitutes an abuse of corporate powers" http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-2811-resident_files_complaint_against_smitherman.html
  4. ^he's probably just taking the day off to placate Smitherman
  5. Cincinnati Comic Book Convention will be expanding to 2 days in 2012 with a Friday preview for VIP ticket holders. Attendance was up 40% in 11 over 10. It will be on Oktoberfest weekend again & the Reds will be playing the Dodgers that weekend. Anybody know where Oktoberfest will be in 12? Moving to the Banks park? http://cincinnati.com/blogs/tv/2012/01/16/cincy-comic-expo-expanding-in-september/
  6. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/craft-beer-breweries-get-boost-from-state-fee-cuts-1313286.html "The law allows small breweries to serve samples and to sell their brews from tasting rooms without buying a $3,900 special permit, and it also allows more small-batch distilleries to open in Ohio and to offer samples of their craft spirits from their own tasting rooms." 'bout time.....

Reckle$$ Endangerment by Gretchen Morgenson & Joshua Rosner. it's about the recent finance & real estate meltdown. Seriously frustrating to read as the banks just tossed out all the old rules of thumb (rule of thumbs?) on home loans, etc.

Map & chart of state budget cuts by county. Really needs populations thrown in, but.... http://innovationohio.org/featured/map-of-budget-cuts-by-county
  9. Interesting article ... and their possible move hits at virtually all the available vacant land parcels downtown, including a proposed Third and Race tower (yes please!), Court Street near the Kroger Building and empty land along the riverfront owned by Montgomery Inn. Unfortunately, Mason is also mentioned. think the Camp Washington Kahn's site would work for 'em. It's got a river view, too. Not great access to the east side, tho.
  10. Throat slitting gestures? Wow. Never heard that one. Talk about pushing the envelope! Lovely council meeting. throat slitting, Tom Luken got ejected by security, Smitherman had to be restrained from attacking people (Quinlivan?) before he ran out of chambers. Ghiz later commended Smitherman & griped about crazies that provoked him. I forget who got the picture.

I had the same issue when I tried to read the article on my mobile, but it was fine on my laptop. Weird. Dunno what's going on but try it without the show comment part http://thebellwetherdaily.blogspot.com/2012/01/burress-citizens-for-community-values.html
  12. I responded to a guy from Butler county who was spouting conspiracy crap about ownership of the properties along the streetcar route. I pointed out there were hundreds of properties and owners. It was not published online, doubt if it got printed. Shortly after that they posted the article about the "number 1 streetcar proponent" (John S.) and pointe4d out he owns property in that area. cue up the X-Files theme.....

restaurants putting lettuce on op of the hamburger patty instead of under it where it logically belongs in order to keep the lower bun from sucking up liquid & then falling apart

AG's report on success of DOD work not too great 47.6 percent include businesses did not create the promised number of jobs in exchange for their tax credits. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/local-firms-break-job-promises-1307891.html FWIW, Seepex, who has complied & created jobs, gave up on state assistance under the current administration due to red tape. Ironically, they make pumping equipment that could benefit the natural gas extraction the current administration is pursuing. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/50-new-jobs-sign-of-firms-steady-growth-1285701.html
  17. In answer to my question, Cincinnati is not doing too well. The national average is closer to 66% solved homicides compared to Cincinnati's 45% last year. But some places are doing a lot worse. http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2010/may/24/unsolved-homicides/ There are links on the left for charts & databases. Nothing any good for local mapping, tho. For that, the police usually have fairly detailed monthly reports that they distribute at community council meetings. Well, in Northside at least.

COA TERS Use Courts To Snoop For E-Mails From Sharonville City Official "Lawyer Chris Finney, a power in the local anti-tax and small government group known as COAST, has filed a lawsuit demanding access to e-mails Sharonville's Economic Development Specialist Tammy Riddle sent to 28 people in the run-up to last fall's Cincinnati city elections." more: http://thebellwetherdaily.blogspot.com/2012/01/cincinnatis-yp-cincypac-in-public.html
  19. Per the map Mr Cahal posted, I think it's pretty obvious heavily Democratic areas result in higher murder rates. Anybody know how Cincinnati's homicide solving rate compares to other cities?
  20. Found out about this over on the popular social networking site, Zombie Friends. Chick over there, Katie McGhoulie, said they have people offering to donate services including foundation work but they still need supplies.

City Bleat questions COA T's sanity. http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-2766-is_coast_schizophrenic.html I'm pretty sure people post claptrap under the guise of COA T but it's hard to tell since the real COA Ters are so over the top to begin with.
  24. As far as Cinti goes, a poll in the Springfield News Sun a few years ago cited Cincinnati as the best day trip.
  25. Didn't/can't/won't listen to the show, was he referencing the escalators in Medellin, Columbia? http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/12/27/giant-escalators-help-poor-in-medellin-colombia/ I don't think we have quite the same situation here in Cincinnati, but yeah, making fun of poor people is a blast.
