Cincinnati: More from the cache: Downtown/Banks and Over-the-Rhine
ok, HamCoAud has the green house (1419) in the first picture as having a sale price of $340,500 on 6/8/11 but a total market value of $14,500. Is this for real?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Watching a Budget & Finance meeting on CitiCable last night. Bortz recused imself on some issue and the Windbag damn near shot out of his seat, his voice jumped up an octave, "Does this have anything to do with the streetcar ?!?". jeezelouise..... the answer was no. BTW, the inability of city administrators to give straight answers is really outrageous.

Cincinnati Enquirer
Downtown Cincinnati 'a safe place to be' Kind of a weird article. Compares the CBD to Florence, Westchester & Mason. It talks about "Downtown" but in graphs lists crime stuff from OTR & CBD. Thing is, I think most people lump OTR & CBD together. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110902/NEWS01/109040324

Springfield ranks #5 for economic development in populations between 50k & 200k in Site Selection Mazagine. I think they came in 1st & 2nd the last 2 years. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/city-named-top-in-economic-development-1232654.html List doesn't appear to be up at Site Selection site. http://www.siteselection.com/

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
heck, the Hamilton Journal just did a piece on how the perception of crime in OTR is overblown. For Ohio, the Fishwrap has been pointless for years. Dayton, Springfield, Toledo, Columbus & Clevo are all better. CityBeat & to a lesser degree, Streetvibes have a some stuff. You can also get neighborhood newsletters. But, yeah, foraging. http://www.journal-news.com/news/hamilton-news/business-leaders-say-over-the-rhines-crime-stigma-isnt-realistic-1232300.html KRC's Newsmakers, of course... (latest episode had Chris Finney. boy is he lost in his own world)

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
They are running this thru FaceBook as well. What's interesting thee is that you can see who is voting. The anti-streetcar voters are overwhelmingly female. Seems odd as the streetcar certainly has advantages over the bus when herding kids & shoving around baby carriages. I just looked at a few pages. Of the people who stated where they live, it was about 60% Cincinnati.

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
A semi in-depth article: "Ohio is joining Texas, Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma and Mississippi as one of the top states using the $3 billion private prison industry to house convicts. Terms of the bids are secret, but Ohio is to announce Sept. 1 whether MTC, Corrections Corp. of America, the GEO Group or a combination of two or all three will buy and run the five prisons under contract with the state." http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-news/records-political-ties-of-private-prisons-raise-concerns-in-ohio-1224511.html

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
It might just be burn out. These guys have been at it for one thing or another for some years now & then you add in the statewide initiatives - people might just be tired of signing their names. That so many of the people pushing these initiatives are misleading in their presentation has probably had a chilling effect, too.

I like the 3D animated Barbie movies I returned a Barbie movie to Schlockbuster once & rented a Lara Croft movie. I am assuming the clerk thought "breast fetish freak"..... BTW, competitive cheerleading is actually pretty awesome. Kinda like Pro Wrestling but a totally different vibe.

A Nation Derailed
An interesting article in the August issue of Pat Buchanan's rag, The American Conservative about passenger rail in the US. A Nation Derailed Passenger trains were once sustainable and civilized. Highway socialism changed that. Rail once unified the nation, and a revived rail infrastructure might again restore the patchwork of particularity that made the country great in the first place. ~Lewis McCrary The article references a couple newish books, Railroaded & Getting There. It's online but you have to pay for it right now. It might be free later. A good magazine store should have it. http://www.amconmag.com/
