  1. I'm slightly surprised/disappointed that more developers around the city didn't follow this more urban minded design of ground floor retail for parking garages.
  2. Seeing how the County Executive spoke earlier with downtown being cash strapped, I would lean to them approving the renovations, the cost to demolish and even rebuild is just too much higher than the renovation cost to justify it.
  3. Personally I don't have a fear that the rendering for the tower will be underwhelming like I did in the past years. These downtown projects that have been completed in recent years (outside of CSU) has been pretty good to great. The Ernst & Young tower in the flats, and the Hilton project have given downtown more modern looking towers outside of the normal beige/brown structures. The proposed projects in the Warehouse District, and the NuCLEus project shows that a standard is being set, and all of these developers are trying to have the best most eye catching design. Side Note: Striving for the most eye catching design definitely can backfire on you.
  4. I think the soon to be podium is perfectly fine. It stands out and designed well enough to where if you just glance at it you wouldn't know it was a parking garage.
  5. Maybe both, that would be great! Here's dreaming!
  6. I like how there are shots of people wearing Cleveland clothing. Seems like they want the audience to know they are in Cleveland, what a change!
  7. Another interesting thing to keep an eye on is that the manager I spoke to said when the owner talked to them about what's happening they mentioned new mall ownership. He mentioned that they are the ones raising rents. I don't know how true that is but since we've heard rumors about Tower City being for sale it's something to keep an eye on.
  8. When did you hear about the ice rink being removed? Does this mean the entire water feature is being removed?
  9. Rents were getting raised. The owner told the workers that Tower City wanted them down there still but the new rent cost weren't acceptable with how much revenue they bring in.
  10. For whatever it's worth McDonalds is closing on Thursday. While talking to the manager apparently a Wendy's is taking its place. Small news but news regardless.
  11. View while driving down Lakeside.
  12. For whatever it's worth, McDonalds is closing in Tower City on Thursday. Talking to the manager at the store, there is a Wendy's supposedly taking its place.
  13. Also, I really hope the city can maintain the area and have it looking pristine. Perk park is still nice but could use some cleaning, hopefully there is a long term plan in place for it.
  14. I'm really surprised that John Q's hasn't had a new tenant, especially with this P.S momentum. Maybe we'll see one closer to the opening ceremony.
  15. Looks like a major big time downtown area in that photograph. Looks great!
  16. McLovin replied to KJP's post in a topic in City Photos - Ohio
    Cool!
  17. I love the density and activity in this photograph.
  18. I probably should have stated that more clearly. Is there space built on the ground floor of 55 public square that is designed for retail, or is it just lobby space? Edit: Didn't dawn on me that John Q's had been apart of 55 P.S
  19. is there space for retail at 55 public square?
  20. Looks great, they have been consistently improving since their inception.
  21. Despite the wisdom of this statement, who doesn't like to imagine things? I took the tallest building and tried my hand at Sketch Up. Not the easiest task in the world as I would find out. My favorite rendering view. That infamous gap finally can potentially get filled! My only thing is if/when the Jacobs lot gets built on the Weston building unfortunately will get blocked (most likely). Glad to see the gap gone though thanks! EDIT: Random observation, looking at this photo I just realized that our downtown can really only expand east, at least when it comes to high rises and super talls. Of course there are sections such as the flats and lakefront where buildings can be built (ex. E&Y building) but east is the only direction where the expansion really has the largest amount of potential. It isn't really restricted by bridges (west), water (north and south/west). This isn't really relevant but I've never sat and realized how restricted downtown expansion is until now. Just wanted to say that, okay I'm done now.
  22. Can anyone render that 37 story building into the skyline? I would but I don't really have the skills.
  23. http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2015/12/rock_box_public_art_project_ai.html From Steven Litt's article regarding the Rock Box concept. Harris said the concept for the Rock Box installation grew out of an earlier attempt to extend the museum's presence into downtown with its "Walk of Fame," planned as a series of brass sidewalk markers celebrating Rock Hall inductees. But he said the initial installation of 14 brass markers, embedded in sidewalks on Lakeside Avenue near Public Auditorium, where Rock Hall inductions have taken place, did not fare well in Cleveland winters. "They got scraped up by snow plows," Harris said. "Water infiltrates. Ultimately, it becomes a very long-term maintenance nightmare. And as a fitting tribute to an inductee, they're not as strong as this new concept will be and not as sustainable." Sounds like this new concept replaces the brass markers Ah thank you.
  24. What ever came of the idea to place plaques with the rock hall inductees down on the sidewalk like they do for the Hollywood walk of fame? I remember seeing some around city hall (or close) but no other ones.
