Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Why that area specifically? Is it because that is where downtown immediately drops off and could use some height?

CLEVELAND - Aired out and Red Lined with a shot of Whiskey from the East
Great pictures! Besides the last photo, which is my favorite skyline shot for obvious reasons, the shots of the 9 and AT&T building with the Q in the foreground, along with the photo of Key tower towards the end on the photo set are AMAZING!

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Can anything besides a bar or restaurant be built in this town? It's getting old. You mean besides the hundreds of new residences under construction or about to be, the 1200+ new hotels rooms set to open by this time next summer, a massive public square makeover, a half a billion dollars in new bridges, new convention ctr, improvements along the river-boardwalk/rowing center/water taxi/canal pathway, further improvement to Edgewater park/beach house/ shore way conversion, downtown grocery store, Giegers Sports... What would you suggest? You missed the point. I think he just means more actual shopping. I feel the same way but I know we have a ways to go with our population numbers to make a case for it.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
It was a mix. Watermark, a local fine dining place, plus some meh chains (Longhorn, some crab shack or something?, Dick's). Mostly is was local clubs/bars, not so much table service restaurants. Ok I was just asking to see the difference in this iteration and the old one. I knew the old one became popular more organically than this one. I didn't realize though the difference in style of establishments. I didn't realize the old flats were so bar heavy, I thought they had a good amount of service restaurants.

Too young to remember the old flats east bank but did it contain local restaurants for the most part?

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Cleveland is not unique in having an ugly jail tower in the downtown area. Just do an image search for 'downtown jails'. Problem is they all look the same, a fortress like structure with small windows and very little street presence. I would keep the jail downtown if it didn't have to look like a jail. Why can't it look like the Hilton for example, lots of glass, atrium with public spaces. Never said that we were the only city that had one nor did I say move it from downtown. As mentioned in my previous post to KJP I said that it blocks progress in the area that it is by creating such a dead zone in areas with entertainment districts surrounding it. I believe that placing it in an area that has similarities to it such as the federal courthouse would be better. Of course the building can look beautiful, will it? That is something we can only hope for.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
I think it was built on caissons because when the Portal public art piece was set outside of it, critics said it looked like someone found a use for a leftover caisson from the building's construction. But since we're talking about a courts building, that's pretty circumstantial evidence. ;) Does that stop them from coming downtown? Putting the jail on the fringe of downtown adds a lot of transportation costs and security issues for moving inmates back-n-forth to the courts. And taking the courts out of the heart of downtown means a lot of law offices, restaurants, etc. will likely leave the heart of downtown too. And they come downtown for work everyday and eat in restaurants downtown more often than you or your friends do, I suspect. I understand your argument about the law offices but I still feel as though the complex should move, I actually like the idea of putting it next to the courthouse that was mentioned earlier. Your comment about eating downtown is true for a few months out of the year but I frequently visit, shop and eat downtown. All I'm saying is that is an area that has a lot of potential. The new convention center and hotel behind it, the flats around the corner, the Warehouse district in across from it as well as the lots that aren't built on. The justice center creates a huge dead zone in that area and blocks progress. All I'm saying is shift the complex to an area of downtown designated for complex's such as the Justice Center such as the aforementioned Federal Courthouse by Tower City.

I personally think it would be a terrible idea to rebuild a new complex on the same site. Having two jails on the fringe of your up and coming entertainment districts makes sense from an intimidation standpoint but outside of that it just looks bad especially to tourists. When I tell my out of town and state friends here at Kent that Cleveland has two 10 story jails downtown they are taken back. I believe having it on the fringes of downtown or in a less obvious or prominent area would be better.

Shall remain nameless. I don't want to jeopardize their relationship with Tower City. Fair enough, so the store has been there for a year already correct?

Great to see Midtown get much needed attention but I just despise low rise buildings in urban areas, especially when it's two stories.

Turns out Hertz isn't out of the picture after all.... Skylight Office Tower looms as big Hertz buy California investor emerges as favorite for 12-story complex August 30, 2015 By STAN BULLARD Hertz Investment Group, the California investor with an appetite for office buildings across the country, looks to be closing in on buying the 12-story Skylight Office Tower in Forest City Enterprises Inc.'s Tower City Center complex in Cleveland. Los Angeles-based Hertz earlier this year bought 27-story Fifth Third Center in downtown Cleveland for almost $54 million. It was rumored to be the bidder that Forest City described in 2014 as the prospective buyer of most of Tower City, although Forest City announced in September of that year that it had broken off negotiations. However, Forest City has continued to offer the downtown shopping and office complex for sale as part of its drive to shed older properties in non-core markets. The properties are being marketed as part of Forest City's effort to continue cleaning up its balance sheet to aid its shift from a real estate operating company to the tax-protected status of a real estate investment trust. The transition is being pursued as part of a quest for higher stock market values more reflective of the value of its portfolio, the company has said. Forest City recently scheduled a shareholder meeting for Oct. 15 to decide on pursuing REIT status. Hertz's renewed interest in at least a part of Tower City surfaced Aug. 13, when it formed an Ohio limited liability corporation called Skylight Office Tower Mezzanine LLC, according to online records from the Ohio Secretary of State's office. MORE: http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150830/NEWS/308309987/skylight-office-tower-looms-as-big-hertz-buy I was hoping that The Avenue was apart of the deal so it can get an owner that will put a better selection of stores in there.

Are there even windows in that space? I don't think that space has been leased yet (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Then that makes sense.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I've been meaning to ask, are they going to remove the board from those windows next to the Big Bang? It creates an awkward dead zone next to such a large restaurant. Also it's just ugly.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Rode past this a few days ago, hands down the most stunning building to be re-built since the district started the program in the early 2000's. It's large, modern, and placed right to the sidewalk. The building is definitely an attention grabber, much beter than when I attended its dark, and depressing predecessor. Now I do feel that no CMSD building will look as beautiful as John Hay High School (My alma-mater) inside and out, that 1929 design just has so much character and attention to detail. Nice job CMSD.

Cleveland: Upper Chester: Development and News
I love the Finch group as well, very straight and to the point, only thing about this development is unfortunately the final product didn't look as good as I had hoped. So two of them is very much appreciated, especially because of the size, stature and positioning but the final product isn't just visually appealing.

Thompson is not a max player, limited offensive game with average FT skills. Being a tenacious rebounder doesn't even net you $94 million in my book especially since he isn't a ferocious defender inside and doesn't rank that well. The $80 million dollar contract would be the furthest I'd go.
