Bess is the new Greg Little, now it seems like we over compensated for him!
  2. Landmarks Commission again delays vote on church demo, as Cleveland Clinic refuses to reuse facade CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Landmarks Commission again pushed off its decision on the future of a Euclid Avenue church on Thursday, as members sought more clarity on how the historic stone building will be taken apart and where pieces of it will be reused. Clearly frustrated, some members of the commission tried to strike a compromise with the Cleveland Clinic, which is in line to buy the church land once it's cleared. But the Clinic, which aims to build a hotel on the site and neighboring land, took a hard-line stance against incorporating part of the Church of the Transfiguration's facade into the hotel building. After citing the Clinic's objection -- basically, that the Clinic and InterContinental Hotels Group attract patrons from a wide range of religious backgrounds -- a Clinic executive provided terse responses to follow-up questions and tried to shift focus to the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, which applied for the demolition permit. "I defer to the diocese," said Brian Smith, the Clinic's director of strategic project development. "They're in the church business. We're in the health care business." http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2013/10/post_128.html#incart_big-photo#incart_m-rpt-2
  3. Weren't there plans on placing something on the land of the old police station they just tore down?
  4. I really hope they pick the skyline changer. It will be nice to finally see a nice new shiny high rise in our skyline. (You only can see FEB at certain angles and it's not that impacting.)

Rob Chudzinski considering benching Brandon Weeden after Cleveland Browns loss in Green Bay BEREA, Ohio -- It might be two flips and out for embattled Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden. Coach Rob Chudzinski admitted Monday that the Browns are considering benching Weeden, who punctuated each of his last two losses with panicked, backhanded or underhanded flips to Chris Ogbonnaya. One was picked off and the other nearly was. They were the poster-passes for Weeden's back-to-back poor outings, which may have earned a look at backup Jason Campbell Sunday against the 7-0 Chiefs. Asked if he was considering sitting Weeden down, Chudzinski said, "Yeah, at all positions we're considering it and looking at that, that's typically what we do every week." Last week, after the loss to Detroit, Chudzinski came out right away in his Monday post-mortem and said he was sticking with Weeden. Not so this week? "Right,'' he said. "We're going to look at it and talk again.'' He earned a 48.6 rating during Sunday's 31-13 loss to Green Bay and completed only 17 of his 42 attempts with one touchdown and one interception. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2013/10/brandon_weeden_jason_campbell.html#incart_special-report
  6. Is this just a placeholder building or the final design?
  7. I feel as if the rooms would be considerably smaller than D.C if the hotel were to be 12 floors. I feel as if an acre less is much more substantial than it may seem.
  8. I have mixed feelings on that building part of it is nice to look at while part of it is ugly, at least they are incorporating some of the old pieces.
  9. Other way around. The bedrock is a stable foundation for buildings. In Cleveland, it is 200 feet below us requiring caissons to be dug down to bedrock for towers higher than 25 stories and thick concrete pads for lesser buildings. In New York City, it has bedrock at the surface which reduces the costs of building high rises. Ahh I think I just got the two mixed up because when I heard that they used NYC as a comparison. Thank you for the correction.
  10. Except I think your going to need a lot more than 12 floors of hotels if you want a 600-650 hotel so that building would be pretty tall and I don't know if they are willing to go that high.
  11. The reason that Cleveland doesn't have skyscrapers I heard was that Cleveland has bedrock basically at street level and it makes it difficult to have towers rise to levels of key tower without astronomical additional cost involved.
  12. Whatever happened to MTS?
  13. Well the Crowne Plaza is only getting rebranded so I wouldn't count that as a loss
  14. Looking at this description of the Edition hotels I would be honored to have it in Cleveland! "This is the latest edition of luxury boutique hotels and the perfect combination of energetic atmosphere, attitude and style. Each property is distinctive and designed by award-winning hotelier Ian Schrager. Each EDITION hotel is located in one of the world's most attractive destinations."

Steelyard Commons phase two construction will start soon, after Cuyahoga County OKs bond issue CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Developer Mitchell Schneider expects to start construction next month on the long-stalled second phase of Steelyard Commons, a large shopping center in Cleveland's industrial valley. On Tuesday, Cuyahoga County Council agreed to issue $5 million worth of taxable economic development bonds -- the last critical underpinning for the $20 million project. Schneider expects to close on his financing in mid-October and start work right away, with hopes of finishing buildings for Burlington Coat Factory and other retailers just over a year later. Anchored by a Walmart Supercenter, Target and Home Depot, Steelyard Commons opened in 2007, just as a brutal recession set in. Since then, Schneider has inked deals with freestanding restaurants but has struggled to bring phase two to fruition. "The recession basically killed the growth of every national retail chain in the country," Schneider said Friday. "Burlington had expressed interest, and they were one of the few stores that were growing. The economics of the lease are not very strong economics. We decided it would be worth it to get this thing moving, even though the economics wouldn't be justified on a totally privately financed basis." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/09/steelyard_commons_phase_two_co.html#incart_river
  16. What's the status on the retaining wall situation downtown? I see it's still broken is their a plan to fix it soon?
  17. Im a huge fan of the 1st image but all of them are amazing!
  18. Cleveland Landmarks Commission delays vote on Euclid Ave. church demolition near Cleveland Clinic CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Landmarks Commission delayed its vote on the demolition of a historic Euclid Avenue church on Thursday, after a sometimes contentious discussion between commission members and representatives for the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio. The commission appeared divided over the future of the Church of the Transfiguration, which sits at the northwest edge of the Cleveland Clinic's main campus. The Clinic hopes to build a 10-story, 279-room hotel on the church property and strips of land on either side. After seeing the site plan, though, some commission members seemed no more comfortable with the demolition. Their unease had little to do with the hotel. "I don't want to see us make a terrible mistake and, by golly, this decision revolves on us," said member Thomas Coffey, who said the church would be impossible to replace. "I think either way I would vote on this, I would probably have a regret," Allan Dreyer, another member, said after expressing concern about what will happen if the building continues to languish. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/09/cleveland_landmarks_commission.html

  20. Lackluster how? What did you expect? These improvements address the major issues and improve a mediocre stadium. Anyone expecting a dome hasn't been paying attention to the conversation. And to address an earlier comment, this stadium design is most definitely "off the shelf" and that's not a slap in the face, it's a result of a rushed job and a tight budget Not talking about the dome, and lackluster wasn't the word I should've used but I got the feeling from reading things that the improvements would have been more than this.

    The true test begins
  22. I would love to see a CityTarget in Cleveland, I found the quote "We are in talks with pretty much every major city" interesting, does that include Cleveland? How much square footage does the May CO. retail space have anyways?
  23. My guess would be when they decided to install outside seating areas, because looking at this picture I see none. Imagine having the sidewalks crowded with people PLUS having to maneuver around the dining chairs while keeping an eye out for oncoming traffic, it would be a NIGHTMARE! Plus it seems more lively with only foot traffic.
  24. Wow never knew that (since I was 3) but that explains it all!
