  1. Does anyone know what those construction workers are doing at the site on Lakeshore and Nottingham? They have been doing the work for a year at least now and I have never heard about it
  2. His designs are unique but to me are not fitting for a college campus especially seeing how conservative KSU is with their designs I take it you're not a fan of the Gehry building at Case! It's okay but Kent would never do a design that extravagant is what I'm saying
  3. Wasn't this project put on hold to finish up the Calfee Building or something? If it was maybe this article was created before that was announced.
  4. Looks like it's CMHA senior housing ... Rendering and some more basic info at http://www.cmha.net/realestate/euclidbelmore.aspx Not sure about date of completion, though. CMHA were the LAST people I wanted to hear be behind this Why? This is a Senior housing development. Just because of what happened with that corruption probe gives me bad feelings about the people who are running it. Also can't other people do senior housing why does it have to be CMHA? It gives pause, but lets think, just because the people at the top were rotten that doesn't mean the folks managing individual buildings are on the take. That's true not everyone is bad but I still have natural hesitations about this project. I'm still happy it's getting built though because with the previous mayoral regime you didn't see any development but at least 3 projects are completed/underway with Gary Norton.
  5. Why 9 months? The articles I read said they were planning to open in 2013 not January of 2013 so they could finish up at the end of next year as long as it's 2013.

  8. Anyone know any news or info on this development on Euclid and Belmore such as a completion date? Is this low income housing, senior citizen housing etc.?
  9. Also found this interesting but didn't know where to put it... Downtown Cleveland parking tightens up due to casino, other projects, but experts see no shortage CLEVELAND, Ohio -- To an urban casino, a new convention center and other Cleveland projects, add one more downtown development: It won't be as easy, or affordable, to find parking next door to your destination. In a downtown replete with parking -- 56,000 or so spaces -- major operators aren't predicting a shortage. Still, new attractions, more housing and a few additional office tenants promise to boost occupancy at parking facilities. Higher demand, plus the glitz of a new casino on Public Square, already are pushing rates up in some parts of a downtown that has grown comfortable with cheap parking. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/04/downtown_cleveland_parking_tig.html
  10. New interior renderings of the Med Mart/CC are up... MMPI releases Cleveland medical mart interior renderings, upholds promise of 'first-class' facility "From my perspective, from functionality, it will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with every convention center in the country," said David O'Neal, chairman and co-founder of Conventional Wisdom, the consulting company that helped draft specifications for the project and has helped plan more than 80 convention centers nationwide. Quality is the most important marker of a convention center, experts say. "You want it to look good, be attractive, be the kind of place people are going to get stop to get their picture taken," said Chris Gribbs, an American Institute of Architects managing director who plans the association's annual conventions. "Then behind the seams, it's ... got to be super strong." To the county and Chicago-based MMPI, strong means solid surface countertops in the bathrooms, so there are no edges for dirt to collect in; fiber cement panels for the walls of meeting concourses, where guests might lean, and what designers describe as the highest-quality carpet. MMPI has spent nearly $300,000 upgrading interior finishes from the base materials agreed on in earlier plans. http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2012/04/mmpi_releases_medical_mart_interior_renderings_upholds_promise_of_first-class_facility.html

  12. Yeah that's my favorite one as well I actually like this one as well because it has a nice amount of glass while still having different materials involved. (It's from CSU)
  13. Maybe something like this (top image) Or this one Maybe not this extreme as far as glass but have enough glass for natural lighting to make the building feel inviting Really the design needs to be something that makes a statement and brings Kent State into the 21st century as far as designs
  14. Yes they do which has me worried about this building because I feel the architecture departments buildings should look inviting and cutting edge with natural lighting for the studios for each major because it really makes a difference when you have a an enclosed working space to one with glass openings because it makes a difference in performance when it comes to this at least for me. I also believe the architecture buildings design should be cutting edge, a design that stands out from the rest and a building that represents the university well
  15. Well Taylor Hall can't be touched really without permission from the government since it's a landmark but it HAS to be replaced the architecture classes are spread literally in 4 different places around campus while other majors have classes for their majors in one spot. Taylor hall isn't even exclusive to Architecture majors it is shared with communications, also Taylor Hall lacks a lecture hall which is ridiculous. I feel like even though architecture is one if not Kent's top major we get the short end of the stick so this new architecture building is desperately needed. Agreed, Taylor is absolutely horrible and the architecture department really does get neglected at Kent. They need their own building. Let's hope that it isn't completely horrible though, Kent doesn't have a good record with most of it's architecture (Math and Science building, Liquid Crystal Building...pretty much anything that isn't on front campus). I kinda wish they were still considering moving the program up to Cleveland. At least I think that was the plan several years ago. 17. Looks fine to me but I wish it would have still been built in Cleveland would have looked nice in the skyline
  18. Sweetie, I don't think that rendering is that great, sans the height. When I worked at BP, I would have had to look at this building! Also, there is no lot next to Key Tower. This was to be placed on Public Square, in between the CEI Building (yes that is what I still call it) and the Renaissance Hotel. Yeah I know that's the parking lot I'm talking about and geez I was kidding around, but I don't think the rendering is bad at all.
  19. Huge!! It really creates a presence down there in that area
  20. Does anyone know the progress or even feasibility of the new architecture building? I hope this gets done it's desperately needed
  21. We could dust off this old design and use it! :-D (Plus it was supposed to take up the lot next to Key Tower anyway)
  22. Seattle's buildings look identical to each other :? but I feel like this is a fantastic idea. I feel like the cities even though they are using green technology more than in the past, they really need to kick it into high gear to benefit the city and the people in the city. I feel this is especially true when I read that the next Great Depression can hit in 2030 if the world doesn't take investing in green technology seriously. My question is the second picture on the initial slideshow for the first link is a rendering of what could be there or is that existing?
  23. I find it amazing that the Med Mart/CC is using 11,800 pounds of steel which is the exact amount Key Tower used and that is 57 stories
  24. My mistake well I used the most recent photo and from what I saw was 12 floors done I must have missed some with the hotel being in the way
