  1. From counting it seems like the have another 6-10 floors (10 if you account for the 3 floor garage)
  2. Can you copy and paste the entire story for those who aren't paid crainscleveland subscribers so we can see it as well?
  3. The building looks amazing I just wish the sign was illuminated as well.
  4. Apparently Best Buy is scouting space for a Best Buy Mobile in TC I think it could work technology is hot right now and will continue to be hot and everyone has some sort of technology, tech need, or tech interest. Link: http://www.city-data.com/forum/cleveland/1551396-downtown-new-restaurants-residential-but-no.html Quote: "I don't know how true this is but I ran into a good friend of mine who works for Best Buy about a couple of weeks ago at Tower City. He told me they were scouting for a storefront space to open a Best Buy Mobile." Idk how true this is but it could work out!
  5. This is a little off topic but is there any talks of shopping being placed in the storefronts on Euclid etc.? I would think this would be at least considered before the casino opened. I feel like Tower City may be better off to be re-purposed for something else though and have the national chains moved into the storefronts on the street. Both parties would win downtown would have constant activity and Forest City would still make money off of whatever the avenue is turned into. (Brought it back on-topic) Just my opinion though
  6. A few friends and I had some drinks at Becky's by CSU and walked to the Cavs game last night. While walking through PHS I said to my friend "it feels like we're in an actual city." What I meant by that was there was all kinds of foot traffic and the restaurants/bars were all crowded in PHS and the Gateway. I know there were some events but the momentum building downtown is noticeable. I hope downtown will stay at least close to this in the future but I will hold my opinion on this subject of downtown booming like this.I would want to see a week or two of continuous major foot traffic like last night before speaking on it because the rock hall ceremonies were going on that night as well as parties for them. :|
  7. Fixing the entrance up at Tower City Center
  8. Seems as if Playhouse square was booming!! I like it!!!
  9. So this is the final design and size of the apartment or is this just a mock up to give an idea off? I ask because weren't there discussions about downsizing the apartments in phase 2 or something? Another question I have is by looking at the renderings on the site Phase I is only the Aloft hotel, and Earnst & Young tower; with green space, and phase II is the residential building and a boardwalk. Am I correct with that analysis or am I missing something? I know the project was scaled down dramatically from the original movie theater, clubs etc. but I thought it would include at least the clubs at least or something else down there because looking at phase I renderings that is a lot of green space. I don't mind green space and think the Flats East Bank development is great, but I just hope there is more down there besides restaurants to attract different crowds such as a classy club etc. or a movie theater. Can someone clarify this for me because I feel at least the movie theater would be great.
  10. Oops  I was rushing to respond haha
  11. I like the plan it will be nice to have another green space that will be at the center of the campus so more people will use it but to me this should allow for some of the centennial green areas to have some type of usable structure on it imo KSU looks to flat and I like density....maybe because I'm from the city :cool2:
  12. It is private develpoment. CSU is leasing the land. What evidence do you have that CSU was trying to get the Cav's to play at the Convocation Center? I read it wrong the Wolstein center broke ground in 1988 and opened on November 1st, 1991 just months after County commissioners agreed to a lease for the Cavs to move downtown as apart of the Gateway project my mistake  the rest of the things I stated are true the story can be found here: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2012/03/cleveland_state_university_pon.html
  13. I would have preferred this design over the current one it add to the river and has a sort of uniqueness to it imo
  14. Is it really "high-demand" if taxpayer funds need to be used to build it? Berkman and CSU leadership seem to be trying to create demand where it currently does not exist. We see how well that's worked out for Wolstein Center. The Wolstein Center was built when there was no arena downtown for basketball and they actually tried to get the Cavs to move from Richmond to there but the organization chose to build their own arena. The problem with the Wolstein Center as noted in a Plain Dealer article was that they refuse to take responsibility for certain things that would be key in attracting large acts and that the Gund Arena (Now the Q) does take responsibility for them so that is why the Q attracts the acts and events that the Wolstein Center wants but can't have because of their restrictions and not wanting to like I said before take responsibilities on so it was a good idea and had good intentions but the Q was built and they had bad management, marketing etc. which is killing it
  15. Yes that would have been better
  16. Although I do not like that sign. I wish they would have honored the building by saying "Horseshoe Casino in/at the Historic Higbee's Building/Department store". But thats just my personal opinion. it's much better than the "D" Word sign that was there. While I respect your opinion that is just a ridiculous idea for a sign it's entirely to long and doesn't flow
  17. Northfield Park owner, Hard Rock executive discuss racino plans http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/04/northfield_park_owner_hard_roc.html What are peoples opinion on this story? Do you think that it will take away from the Horseshoe Casino?
  18. But like the story says CSU didn't use city money for the project so they aren't required to have 20% of their workers come from the local area or have 4% be low income workers so really they are crying over spilled milk. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk or anything but CSU has no obligation to the city to hire local workers
  19. Don't forget the planned new high-rise apartment tower and hotel on the Jacobs lot on Public Square! Is it April 1 yet? Sorry, just practicing! Were you talking about the 20 story glass tower planned back in 2007-2008 before the recession completely hit
  20. Quick WTP question I looked at pictures of it on Google and it seems huge how much of that space is retail but to bring it back to TC do you think Tower City was a good idea or do you think the city should have focused more on storefront retail down Euclid etc.?
  21. If my memory serves me correctly One Anchor Department store - NM (there was discussion this would change to two (Bloomies) when the rock hall moved) One mid range office Tower One hotel Tower - Westin One Residential Tower More upscale retail What I cannot remember is, if the office/hotel tower was the same tower. I really think there was suppose to be office on the lower with the hotel on top. Did funding for this fizzle out or did the overall plans just change?
  22. Heck, I don't even agree with their efforts...I believe that if there were really national restaurants interested in coming to Tower City they should have done it by now because that grand opening will be a major draw downtown and they should have as much national and mid to upscale shopping/eateries in place to give the casino goers and even the regular city residents a reason to come down to the Avenue to shop. I always thought that the first impression is the most important thing because that gives people a taste or idea of what they think of you or your place of business etc. and if they want to come back. So Forest City's efforts are really lackluster BUT it was good to read what the plans were for phase II as far as connecting it to Tower City
  23. The PD conducted an interview with the CEO of Forest City David LaRue and discussed the future of Forest City as a company and in the city as well as the future of Tower City Center. If you click the link the scroll down the reporter is replying to a comment and says that national restaurants are interested in Tower City but that Forest City will wait to see how well the casino works out. I also found an interesting comment about selling Tower City to Rock Ohio Caesars saying "If Rock Ohio Caesars comes along and says, This is worth X to me, and it's because I'm going to have a billion dollars of investment, and I want this retail to look different than what your vision is, we could clearly have a discussion about that. I would not tell you that I wouldn't talk to them about their interest. It would be looked at." He also delved into how the second phase would interact and become attached to Tower City and if it will be built by stating "There's going to be a physical entrance at our existing food court, and then probably somewhere else along that Gateway connector. The parking underneath is going to be connected to our parking. The facility is going to be built up to Huron Road, so it's going to create a whole new landscape. Across from the Hard Rock, you're going to now have activity instead of air. I believe what Rock Gaming says, because as you look back at what their principals, mainly Dan Gilbert, have said, since he's made a commitment to Cleveland, he's done what he's said he's going to do. I don't think they came to Cleveland to build a first phase and stop. I find this to be an interesting article about the future of Tower City Center and the Casino Phase II http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/03/forest_city_ceo_david_larue_ov.html
  24. Yes that exterior rendering was absolutely horrible! BUT! K&D does have nice finished products so it all works out (reference: 668 Euclid)
  25. If this goes through *fingers crossed* this will add 325 apartments in the next two years. (102 apartments for the old Hannah Annex) This also is major for the old financial district which was turning into a ghost town. By adding this development they will add vitality to the area and maybe cause spinoff development (Huntington Building anyone?) Which would change the face of the district and add momentum to this Nine-Twelve district proposal. This is also a large housing project with 21 stories it would decrease Cleveland's office vacancies which is still pretty high which last time I checked was 22.2 percent in Cleveland's central business district. So by converting this office and the old Hannah into residential they will take nearly a half-million square feet of office space away (350,000 for the East Ohio Building, 100,000 square feet for the Old Hannah Annex) so it decreases office vacancy without demolition (wish they thought of this in the 60's and 70's) My only gripe about this project is they apartments will only rent for about between $1.30 and $1.35 per square foot which means renters might pay $975 to $2,100 a month. This I don't believe is a high enough rate to spur apartment construction. Great News none the less.
