  1. You JUST beat me to it!!!
  2. Not sure if there is an E.9th street development thread but if there is feel free to move this to the thread. That being said...more housing development going on downtown so if this goes through *fingers crossed* this will add 325 apartments in the next two years. (102 apartments for the old Hannah Annex) This also is major for the old financial district which was turning into a ghost town. By adding this development they will add vitality to the area and maybe cause spinoff development (Huntington Building anyone?) Which would change the face of the district and add momentum to this Nine-Twelve district proposal. This is also a large housing project with 21 stories it would decrease Cleveland's office vacancies which is still pretty high which last time I checked was 22.2 percent in Cleveland's central business district. So by converting this office and the old Hannah into residential they will take nearly a half-million square feet of office space away (350,000 for the East Ohio Building, 100,000 square feet for the Old Hannah Annex) so it decreases office vacancy without demolition (wish they thought of this in the 60's and 70's) My only gripe about this project is they apartments will only rent for about between $1.30 and $1.35 per square foot which means renters might pay $975 to $2,100 a month. This I don't believe is a high enough rate to spur apartment construction. Great News none the less. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/03/kd_group_plans_to_buy_redevelo.html
  3. Lakefront Plan Approved Finally this is about to get off of the ground it is looong overdue!!! Looking at the drawings in the video I would say this is an impressive plan that is in place and 5-10 years for development to be complete isn't too bad! http://fox8.com/2012/03/19/clevelands-lakefront-plan-put-to-a-vote/
  4. I attended this school and the school lacked an auditorium, was outdated, dark, the cafeteria/gym was unbelievably old and small, the bathrooms were disgusting and the walls were peeling it was time to build a new structure

  11. Didn't Dredgers Union say they wanted to expand because of the success they've had? Maybe the work going on is an expansion of their store
  12. I believe the store your talking about is the store called manhattan I had to buy a quick shirt from there...they are on the second floor and one of the stores that are slated to leave and Charlotte Rousse may want to come back because they see the momentum building up downtown and want to capitalize on it.
  13. Maybe they will just have the floor with the slots open or are slots not allowed to be operating yet? Or maybe they may want to capitalize on the large crowd and give a sneak peek to create a buzz like someone said because people from all over will be downtown not just people from downtown and also there will be people who won't be drunk and will behave themselves like me and they may want to see it.....so basically I believe all it is really is a marketing ploy to get their casinos name out there faster than penn national.
  14. Talked to a Security Guard yesterday that said Management told them that the Casino is working hard to move its opening day to March 17th (St.Patrick's Day) I guess to capitalize on the major influx of people that will be downtown. I'm not sure if only the slots will be up or the full Casino will be done but that's what management is telling employees in Tower City as a way to prepare them for the MAJOR amount of people that will be down there.
  15. Talked to a security guard down at Tower City and she said she was informed along with her colleagues that there will be a Charlotte Rousse coming to downtown in the store next to Champs Sports (you can tell when walking by it that the space is being renovated), and the City Room right by the Next store is being renovated currently, also the large space that the store Manhattan occupies will be gone in place of something else. Even though the latter two spaces weren't revealed as to what will be in them she said management told them that it will be a major retailer in both spaces. Well now So Far them confirmed stores are Journey's, Charlotte Rousse, House of Hoops, and there is a feeling that the company I work for (Lids) will be moving into a storefront instead of a kiosk as well as the T-Mobile across from us. Oh also when I was walking by the Dunkin Donuts there was a sign that shot "Hot Shots Photography Coming Soon" In the space that previously held a photography business. So that's my update, it's not much but it's definitely progress. Side Note: That is a legit source because security is supposed to be informed of changes to the mall ahead of time so they can prepare for it.
  16. That got "value-engineered" out of the plan. It's going to be tough enough for the developer to get financing for the apartments, let alone any supportive retail, theaters, etc. Apartments and Retail are supposed to be apart of the next phase correct? So basically we will have to wait on the construction like phase 1?
  17. Colossal Cupcake is moving in next to Radio Shack. Looking forward to a cool place for deserts. We could use a good ice cream/gelato shop downtown. I thought Radio Shack faced Euclid? Or Does It Stretch To Prospect As Well?
  18. So will the movie theater still be built down in the flats? If so what does that mean for Tower City's theater will it stay open?
  19. Cleveland Horseshoe Casino to get slot machines as soon as next week CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Slot machines will be wheeled into the new Horseshoe Casino in the old Higbee Building as early as Monday in anticipation of the May 14 grand opening. Once the machines come in on the street level of the casino on Public Square, they will be under constant surveillance by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the agency charged with preventing tampering of the machines. Marcus Glover, general manager of the casino being developed by Rock Gaming LLC and Caesars Entertainment Inc., said today he is amazed at the speed of the project. "You come in after one week and you're amazed at how much progress has taken place," he said. The carpet is laid on the street-level floor, much of the painting and carpentry work is finished and the bases are in place for 700 slot machines. Many of the original features of the old Higbee Building remain, including the pillars, wood and ornamental brass work. Glover said there are still jobs available at the casino, which will employ 1,600 people, 90 percent from the metropolitan Cleveland area. The first floor of the casino, which is one level below the street, will have a 400-seat buffet restaurant. The third level will have three restaurants, including Corky and Lenny's and Michael Symon's B Spot restaurant. The third restaurant has yet to be named. Glover said the buffet will not conflict with other restaurants in the area. "We were very careful not to cannibalize the restaurants or entertainment establishments downtown," he said, noting that many other casinos try to keep customers from leaving by offering food and entertainment. "There is no buffet restaurant around here, so we believe it will not hurt restaurants," he said. "We will deliberately not feature entertainment since there are so many choices within walking distance. We want the casino to be part of the Cleveland experience." http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2012/02/slot_machines_coming_to_horses.html#incart_hbx
  20. Well the company I work for (Genesco) which owns Lids, Johnson & Murphy, Hatworld, Underground Station, and Journey's sotre will be converting the underground station into a Journey's store, which sells a different type of shoe instead of tennis shoes etc. (It's a start)
  21. I have....they have a pretty good selection and is family run with the Mother/Owner taking orders and the Son making the sushi and the customer service is great as well
  22. Can you provide the link to the Tumblr?
  23. Hope He Doesn't Move The Team!!!
  24. Perhaps they don't *need* it as much because one city is easier to do business in than the other. The examples of Solon and Twinsburg (and later, even Bedford) versus Maple Heights and others come to mind. As for why Eaton chose a suburban location, they're still a manufacturing company. My experience is that at least in this area, people in manaufacturing don't even like to go downtown (traffic, parking costs and distance, etc), let alone commute there on a daily basis. For years only two search firms were located downtown, one of them finally moved out. I know it's somewhat sacriligious to say here, but you'll really be fighting an uphill battle to try to get a manufacturing based business to locate downtown. A little off topic here but that comment about manufacturing companies don't like being Downtown reminded me about Cleveland Cliffs....are they located Downtown know because I've seen there name on the side of new Huntington Building now (Old 200 Public Square)
  25. Basically a Foot Locker Branch Store that sells Exclusive shoes and athletic items that you won't find in other shoe stores...Not on a Gucci level but its not low end and is a national company (Have to start small and build up you can't just throw Gucci in there and expect people to come there has to be a good mix of national companies from mid to high to have a good variety of people to come in)
