  1. The Stough Group has owned the Hanke building and those attached for a long time. They used to operate the plasma center. Now called the "Hanke Exchange." http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/morning_call/2013/07/streetcars-promise-attracts-occupants.html
  2. ^^They are already open. They did a nice job with the space. The layout is still the same but there is more of a coffee shop vibe. I hear a "burger place" might be going into the arby's space.
  3. ^Probably true. Cranley did have about 2000 more people come out for him than Qualls. I would equate these votes to yard signs. Indicative of support but not necessarily a way to calculate who will win the election.
  4. I'm not implying that its damning. I'm using it to say Steve Chabot's attack ad was truly offensive and vile. Not Roxanne Qualls It has been implied by cincyblog and others so I thought the contrary was worth noting. I agree that Chabot's ad was worse than Roxanne's. I also agree that Cranley's move of leaving council and then taking a subsidy from the city opens him up to criticism. However, the ad falsely implies that the action was unethical. Furthermore, council unanimously approved the subsidy and Roxanne praised Cranley on his way out. Maybe that is too much inside baseball for the voting public, or maybe Roxanne will come across as a hypocrite. It made me laugh, but I was surprised by the imagery of Cranley taking money from the baby's hands. Will it move the needle in either direction? No idea.
  5. ^I rewatched the footage a couple weeks ago. It is by no means damning.
  6. The Cranley stand-in LITERALLY steals money out of a baby's hand. That is hardcore.

    Yea that guy is cool
  8. He literally just built our most recent completed trophy tower.
  9. ^The neighborhood/location is a MAJOR selling point now. Things change.
  10. I've heard that OPERS doesn't want our unfunded liability. I tend to agree. Even the politicians most likely to demagogue the pension issue are opposed to this amendment.
  11. From a PG email blast today:
  12. ^It depends on how you define "large." I think the Schmidt building is pretty much empty, as is the Brendamour building next door. The building with McHahn's in it on Race is empty but for the first floor retail. Can't recall the status off the top of my head of the old Delta building at 7th and Plum but I thought that was empty too.
  13. ^That article says he lives in Mt. Adams.
  14. ^^Those resolutions ARE a waste of time, to be fair.
  15. ^Murray is far from extreme right. She gets along well with moderate Democrats. I agreed with her on the parking deal and disagree with her on the streetcar.
  16. Okay you got me on that one, I missed the City Hall tab. My original point is that I am confused by the Charter Committee and its relationship with Qualls. In the article you posted, it mentions that she has concerns about who they are endorsing for council. Yet she is not a board member and "is running as a Democrat." As I have stated before, there is no doubt that Qualls is a true Democrat. I just find the Charter thing odd and have yet to hear a real explanation.
  17. If Charter continues to allow Qualls to use their office for her campaign or if the campaign mentions the Charter office in some invitations, great. On the Qualls campaign website, it doesn't mention anything about Charter. On Charter's website, it doesn't mention anything about Qualls. This makes no sense. If Greg Hartmann was running for Mayor, do you think that the Republican Party wouldn't endorse him because there isn't another Republican running? The Charter Committee doesn't have to do anything. I was just pointing out that since they haven't endorsed anyone for Mayor so far, it stands to reason they won't be endorsing anyone at all. Just because a candidate has been endorsed by a party or group in the past, doesn't mean they automatically will get that endorsement in the future. Maybe Qualls asked not to be endorsed. I have no idea.
  18. Alright, we can save the ad hominem for those who really deserve it. Clearly Greg is not a die-hard, do whatever it takes, supporter of the streetcar (as illustrated by his email to John that he would not vote for the $17 million). If you want a member of council who wants to write a blank check for the streetcar, then don't vote for Greg. However, a candiate can be honest say that, if elected, he will do what he can to make sure the project is successful, while at the same time hesitant to vote for additional spending. Yes, as in the case of the recent vote, additional funds could be necessary to make the project a success. And certainly additional funds will be required for the extension to Uptown. We can't count on Greg to vote for either, and I am okay with that. I support candidates that think critically. I think many of us will agree that Chris Seelbach fits that profile. I appreciated the fact that he did not immediately commit to voting for the 17 million and sought more accountability. If Greg gets on council, perhaps he can be persuaded on such a vote, perhaps not. Either way, he will seek accountability and will make a reasoned and informed decision, based in no way on political opportunism. This is a man who has done solid work for the Strickland administration, and has shown true ability leading the Strive Partnership. Perhaps I am biased because Greg is a friend. But I trust him implicitly to lead our city on council. I get that there is a fear that the loss of a pro-streetcar majority could endanger the project, but I implore anyone reading this to cut through the rhetoric and just talk to people who know Greg.
  19. So Charter is purposely not endorsing Qualls for mayor to give her a better chance of winning?
  20. Based on what, the fact her campaign manager still subleases office space from the Charter Committee? The primary is September 10; what are they waiting for?
  21. ^You are leaving out a couple options such as Iris and Park & Vine, but I agree that the east side of OTR could use some more eateries. I think a casual sandwich place would fit in well but something a little more unique than Subway would be preferable.
  22. In 2009, Mallory raised $248,648.82 and Wenstrup raised $83,414.18, according to the report available on the City's website.

  24. ^Since this is the "Changing Perceptions of Over-the-Rhine" thread, I think it is appropriate to point out this is just one block north of where Tim Thomas was killed in 2001.
