  1. ^ Good catch! Just pushed me over the edge to buy my 3 day pass!
  2. People need to remember that the language of issue 48 was incredibly clear cut as it appeared on the ballot: Correct me if I am wrong, but was there not a small dispute over the ballot summary language on council. Wasn't the word "streetcar" added to make it more "clear" at the urging of some of the anti-streetcar voices on council (hoping that the word streetcar would cause more yes votes)?
  3. This is absolutely true. For example, if you are biking on a multi-lane one way street and need to take a left. The law states that you need to keep to the right - which means you will have to cross several lanes of traffic before you can take the left. On a bike, one cannot simply "change lanes" like a car. You might have to weave through a line of cars stopped at a light, or you might have to run a red light in order to safely change lanes with no cars moving behind you. There is a way to do it safely, especially in downtown grid-type situations.
  4. Does anyone know how Moerlein is coming along in regards to upping their brewing operations in Cincinnati? Are they currently working on the brewery space north of Liberty?
  5. ^wow that is extremely unprofessional.
  6. My bet is he likes seeing articles like this a heck of a lot more than he likes the idea of resigning his council seat to run a hopeless campaign
  7. ^That could have been a legit move depending on the bridge
  8. Yes, welcome! This blog post from last year lays out some of the downtown options: http://cincyvoices.com/2011/08/15/grocery-shopping-downtown/ Unfortunately Mayberry Foodstuffs is gone but the rest are still going strong. OTR - you mentioned something about working on a "buy 25" type campaign for the Vine St. Kroger - keep us posted!
  9. Interesting comparing the shots of the boardwalk to the episode of No Reservations where he goes to Asbury Park. Looks much improved! Is the HoJo still standing?
  10. The sale is not falling through. The deal is being reworked so that the city can legally apply the funds to the streetcar project.
  11. I had a marxist professor once who used to bemoan the "commodification of revolt" that occured after the 60's counter-culture movement waned. The article thoughtfully brings up the concept of corporate-sponsored, former pillars of the anti-establishment such as art and "indie-rock festivals." On the other hand, art and music have almost always been patronized by the elite. Opera houses, concert halls and museums probably weren't built over the centuries to promote "vibrancy" but it would be an interesting comparison.
  12. http://www.reddit.com/r/cincinnati/comments/xgrc7/seelbach_i_have_no_idea_what_happened_i_am/ The James Dego comment was posted before the Reddit comment. On a seperate note, what do we all think of 4 year terms?

I interpret your remarks to mean that the inherent annoyance of hipsters stems from their lack of awareness of their own context. Someone who has adopted DIY or artisan values with sincerity and humility does not deserve to be disparaged as a "hipster;" they benefit our society. Someone who thinks they are the first person to discover obscure bands, wear skinny jeans and move to brooklyn naturally invites derision.
  14. Copenhagen definitely has a delightful sense of je ne se quoi.. Bevar Christiana!
  15. US 1. Cincinnati (burned into my heart, mind and soul) 2. San Fran 3. NYC 4. New Orleans 5. Charleston, SC Place I want to visit: Portland International 1. Tel Aviv 2. Amsterdam 3. Copenhagen 4. Dublin 5. Stockholm Place I am dying to visit: Tokyo
  16. When you go I recommend the winds cafe, sunshine cafe, ha ha pizza. There is another thread about Young's Dairy. Definitely check that out.
  17. Don't patronize me. I am completely fine with weed. I don't care if people smoke and I think it should be fully legalized. Until it is actually legal, I think if you want to smoke you should do it in the privacy of your home. It doesn't help to have people using illegal drugs (regardless of my aforementioned opinion on weed) in a neighborhood with a reputation for drug trafficking and violence. It gives off the impression that the neighborhood isn't safe and the police don't enforce laws. If that is one of Joe Cincinnati's first impressions of OTR it could have a lasting, negative impact on his perception of OTR/downtown. It also doesn't help the legalization argument when those same people are yelling at people walking down the street and throwing their trash all over. It gives weed a bad name and something for the social conservatives to point at. Yes. thank you. ryanlammi you perfectly articulated my exact thoughts on this subject
  18. How long ago could someone have said the same thing about Vine st.? There are almost no condos left from the first wave of 3CDC development. I don't know how many of these condos will be a half million, quarter million or what, but pretty much anyone paying market rate for their place isn't going to tolerate that activity. Those of us who live in the area now should probably already be complaining louder. There is no disputing that the influx of new residents continues and it will have a positive effect - as it already has on Vine st.
  19. ^ They will care when hundreds of homeowners are looking out their windows or walking home from Japps and constantly calling the cops when they see criminal activity.
  20. I think it is a testament to how many people are coming to the neighborhood (thus creating an environment not conducive to crime) that there haven't been more muggings and car break-ins in the area. I would expect that certain folks on their way to the drug market on Walnut would be looking to score some quick cash. Coming home late at night, I am always most on my guard when the streets are deserted.
  21. Maybe Yellow Springs - I haven't been the towns you mention but they sound cool!
  22. 1116 was the old Plasmacare storefront, but 1110 was also part of the center. No need for windows in the lab section I guess.
  23. More details on Main Street developments: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2012/07/24/obama-campaign-hq-us-bank-coming-to.html Obama campaign HQ, U.S. Bank coming to Over-the-Rhine Business Courier ... In addition to leasing space for the campaign office, Stough Group leased 1116 Main St. to U.S. Bank for a full service branch. The new, 2,500-square-foot location will consolidate two branches, one located on Court Street and another on Sycamore Street, according to a news release from the building owner. ... Stough Group also is preparing a space for prospective tenants of the “Jupiter Building” at 1110 Main St. This adds another 4,500 square feet of space for potential tenants.
  24. A great example of this is the Cathedral at Cordoba. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral%E2%80%93Mosque_of_C%C3%B3rdoba
  25. ^ I locked my bike up there the Saturday before last during a Reds game - just wanted to check it/test it out. The bike lockup area is great and definitely secure. The locker room is small and pretty bare bones but clean. The guy working there seemed friendly.
