  1. A Liberty road diet and corresponding redevelopment consistent with the Brewery District Master Plan would certainly do wonders for increasing development north of Liberty. However, development is already happening up there, and will continue with the streetcar and the shrinking opportunities to the south. I agree that Liberty is a detriment that could be a catalyst, but development will continue to push out from the Findlay Market area and around the Streetcar regardless.
  2. Nope, not no man's land. I run up Vine to Liberty and then over to Reading. I also walk up to the Moerlein Tap room, and Findlay Market. Each of these involve going north from where I live on Vine up past the Vine Street Kroger. Certainly not everything, and depending on the time of day, there are several active areas north of liberty - Most notably Rhinegeist, Findlay Market, and the Moerlein Brewery. Development is underway but there are areas that can feel empty at certain times and thus not as safe. Walking up Vine or Race north of Liberty on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when Findlay is in full swing is probably a more comfortable time for families than a weekday evening.
  3. Re: street improvements, I heard something about closing off through access to one of the residential streets, but I don't know if that is what they are referring to here.
  4. One of Mallory's greatest strengths as mayor was his deference. He wasn't afraid of someone else having a good idea. Cranley thinks he is the smartest guy in the room.
  5. $1500/yr for a guaranteed spot is pretty typical for surface lots downtown but kind of ridiculous unless you can lock down a space right by your residence. However, $108/yr for a guaranteed spot is a give-away to the 450 lucky souls who are first in line to get a pass. With 6,000 residents and only 400-450 free spots, I really don't know how you design a reasonable and fair plan. Maybe something block-specific?
  6. Cianciolo's salad bar at lunch is legit though. And super cheap.
  7. ^Fee simple can be a distinction for townhomes when they are part of an HOA but aren't condominiums.
  8. I don't think that's true. The "parking lot" mentioned in Wetterich's article could be the driveway with parking spaces on the side of the building and the parking spaces behind. The Central Parking lot next to the building has a different owner according to the Auditor's site.
  9. ^It is relocating from its interior 2nd floor location to street level on 6th in the 580 building.
  10. I have the exact opposite feeling about Collective, but perhaps your experience reflects the nature of their space and setup on Woodward. The key to the CAC location is going to be quality and efficiency; the museum lobby chic surroundings will probably dictate the vibe.

^That doesn't even make sense. He isn't running as a 3rd party candidate so there won't be any splitting of voters. Running in a primary does not make one a "Dino."

That would be a safe prediction had PG not announced that he is "all in." I predict he stays in but attempts to stay positive in any direct references to Strickland.
  13. I imagined this exact conversation when I saw the announcement.
  14. I completely agree. He could do something really special in there and create another "flagship" Cincinnati dining establishment.

However... http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2015/01/ted_strickland_not_yet_decided.html Ted Strickland not yet decided on a U.S. Senate run CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ted Strickland continues to seriously weigh a bid for U.S. Senate in 2016 and could be leaning toward one, Democratic sources said Friday. But the former governor has not made a final decision, stressed a spokeswoman at the Ohio Democratic Party and a party operative who is close to Strickland. The Youngstown Vindicator, citing unidentified sources "close to" Strickland, reports that he will run and make a formal announcement in mid-February. "There is truly nothing to confirm," Meredith Tucker, communications director for the state Democratic Party, which maintains close ties with Strickland, told the Northeast Ohio Media Group in response to questions. "Gov. Strickland has publicly said he's considering running, and that process is still ongoing."
  17. Is this section of the park open 24 hours? Or is the whole park open 24 hours?
  18. Chris Wetterich just tweeted that it will fly to New Orleans, Cancun, and Branson. Branson does provide another option to get to Fayetteville/Bentonville, although we do have a direct flight to Fayetteville. Edit: Apparently NO and Cancun are connections from Branson.
  19. This is fairly standard bbq restaurant practice. Classic "no one goes there; it's too crowded" comment.
  20. The meters with the wrought-iron looking loops for bikes are pretty nice looking IMO. Hopefully more of those stay and the old gray-ish meter poles bite the dust.
  21. The few times I have been to Halfcut in OTR they seemed to have a really solid cross-section of Ohio beers. The beer-focused bars are doing a good job seeking out the best of Ohio, but I agree that most bars around Cincy are going local and national-craft before looking around the state. Great Lakes is the exception though because they penetrated the market before our current batch of local craft brewers got off the ground.
  22. In no particular order, without repeating breweries: Rhinegeist - Uncle Rockmill - Saison (though I will drink anything they produce and they are prob my fav ohio brewery) Great Lakes - Christmas Ale (tradition!) 50 West - Coffee Please Madtree - Axis Mundi Christian Moerlein - Zeppelin Blank Slate - Ryesing Up hmmm, apparently I need to drink more beer from around Ohio. I will definitely reference the preceding lists. I know I have had some good stuff from Jackie O's but I can't really recall any one in particular.

We just don't have a monoculture/counterculture divide anymore. Just endless niches. I just don't see a significant number of acts today that parallel James Brown, Dylan, Velvet Underground, Miles Davis, etc. that aren't just objectively innovative, creative, and acclaimed, BUT ALSO have a real cultural impact.

I have heard nothing but very positive things about Clark. I don't know as much about Bacon and Elder. Regarding athletics, do you think he would thrive more in a competitive atmosphere that forces him to really "bring it" to make the team or keep up, or in an environment that is less competitive but potentially more fun and confidence-building?
  25. What would actually be helpful is if they continue to target this same group year after year for a survey. If the needle moves on the casino/bengals crowd, that is an interesting data point.
