Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Finch is awesome. They did Arbor Park too, right? Leave it to a Boston developer to see the true potential of Cleveland's East Side! (Sorry for the sarcasm; sometimes I can't help it.)

Good thing no one pays attention to him anymore.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Meanwhile, I can't find the individual thread right now, but does anyone have more information on what's going on at 515 Euclid? The article X posted (and quoted above by mrnyc) makes it seem like the tower is going forward -- which would be huge. It was also included in a DCP presentation I attended a few weeks back. Anyone? Anyone? Also, the article indicates that Ferchill will renovate the Atrium with or without a firm tenant (UH has been discussed). Any further details on that? The Atrium, to me, is the biggest single eyesore on lower Euclid now. If we could get it shined up, I'd be a very happy person.

^^^jmc, thanks for that update on the Prospect building. It's not the world's most beautiful building, but I certainly wouldn't want to see it demolished.

Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts
Also: - Condos will vary from $160,000- $250,000 for Penthouse. The 8 affordable units will rent for $500-$900 per month. - The project has nothing to do with the Riverview HOPE VI project, although the land was purchased from CMHA. The HOPE VI units will be across the street from this project.

Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts
Here's a press release about the project. Um, they could use an editor. A PLACE FOR US DEVELOPMENT, INC. JOINS TEG PROPERTIES IN OHIO CITY ''A GATEWAY TO THE GLBT NEIGHBORHOOD" June 17, 2006--A Place For Us Development, Inc., a non-profit business, is very pleased to join TEG (Thomas E. Gillespie) Properties, Inc, at the proposed site, Detroit-Superior Properties Lofts at 2715 W. 28th Street/Detroit Avenue. Detroit-Superior Lofts is the continuation of the planned development envisioned by TEG Properties. - Phase I of the plan include eight rental apartments and retail is underway by TEG Properties. - Phase II allows for fifty-five (*55) residential market rate for-sale condominiums and projected 1.5 parking spaces per resident (subject to change by project design or market conditions). - Marketing began June 17, 2006. October 1, 2006 is the projected date for 20 unit presales and November 1, 2006 is the projected date for the beginning of construction. For the past nine *(9) years, APFU has focused on cultivating various networking opportunities to create this first-of-its-kind urban facility to serve both as a multigenerational home for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender people and persons supportive of such divesity. Also it will serve as a hub for various services and programs designed to reach out to and care for its residents and to those who participate within the various community-at-large resources. After the many twists and turns of its history within city development, A Place For Us Development, Inc. feels like it has found its home; thus, the proposed site is seen as a perfect fit into the gateway of Ohio City. The renderings are provided by Lowenstein and Durante Architects. Designs for the proposed site will also include space for educational, social, cultural programming and healthcare services, green space and safety for its residents. For further information contact: (In mid-July, 3 sites will be designated for presale sign up) Linda M. Krasienko, President A Place For Us Development, Inc. [email protected] 440-227-8556

Cleveland: Franklin Castle
What a mess. When is someone actually going to do something with this place??
-
Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts
^^Actually, the lot in question is not the Bounce overflow lot. I was mistaken about that when I originally posted. The site is one block east on Detroit, across from Linda's Superette.

By the way, the event on W25th was organized by Cleveland Public Theatre's Brick City program, which reaches out to kids in public housing. It was cool to see something happening on that empty field!

I just had a thought -- could this be a part of the Riverview project??

Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts
So where exactly will the CHMHA Riverview units be? It looks from the site plan like the Place for Us building will stretch almost all the way back to Church.

Awesome MayDay -- I knew we could count on you for some photos!

Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts
We're getting there! It's actually Detroit-Superior Lofts. Detroit-Shoreway is the name of a neighborhood further west. ;) Thanks to whoever is making these changes.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I have mixed feelings about this. Although I blame NIMBY-ism to a degree, I think CMHA also deserves a fair share (perhaps most) of blame. Their disorganization and lack of foresight on Riverview has been shocking: demolishing units without a firm plan to replace them, desperately scrambling for alternate options when their tentative replacement plan fell through, failing to make neighborhood residents and merchants feel a part of the planning process. There is a politic to developing mixed-income housing that CMHA has yet to grasp. That said, I am glad to see that most of the affordable rental units will be scattered site, while the larger development at Church and 28th will be mixed.

Someone, please... This thread needs a new title! It no longer has anything to do with the Warehouse District.

Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts
Peabody, I know what you're saying. Still, while most gay people probably don't feel a need for this kind of housing, I think some do -- those coming from more persecuted backgrounds, for example, or those entering old age who want supportive housing. It's a pretty specialized niche. The brochure specifically states that people of all sexual orientations are welcome. And as an added bonus, we can hopefully say goodbye to another surface parking lot!

Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts
Exciting news. I was at the Gay Pride Festival today -- which was amazingly packed by the way! -- and A Place for Us had a booth set up. Their project is now located at Detroit Avenue and W. 28th Street, and is called Detroit-Superior Lofts. The site is currently some surface parking lots across from the Federal Knitting Mills building. A Place for Us is proposing a 55-unit condo building with parking below the building and retail space on the ground floor. The renderings looked a lot like what we've seen for Avenue District -- the building itself is shown as 5 stories. The architect is Lowenstein Durante Architects, on Mayfield Road in Cleveland. The developer is TEG Properties. They had brochures but there is no Web site as far as I know. The woman at the booth said A Place for Us has site control, and received some county funding this week. She also said they plan to break ground in November! Even if that's optimistic, the fact that they're so far along in their planning is incredibly cool. Moderators -- we should probably change the name of this thread to Cleveland: Detroit-Superior Lofts (A Place for Us) or something similar. Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
MGD, power line burial is supposedly part of the streetscape plan. Though streetscape is budgeted at about $4 million, which seems low to include new sidewalks, lighting, street narrowing AND burial. Who knows.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Any speculation on who the new tenants might be? I'd love it if they just put in a simple bodega. It seems that's what people in that neighborhood need -- a convenient place to buy random food and drink items. A clothing store would be nice, too. I hope it's not just four new bars. But I have faith in MRN that it won't be. They move slowly, but the wait is usually worthwhile.

Cleveland: A Morning Run in Clark-Fulton
No, but the idea that it is courageous for three grown men to jog there on a Sunday morning is a little absurd.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
??? I don't think they're going for front yards. The houses are built almost right up to the sidewalk.
-
Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
JDD, it wasn't meant to be a derogatory comment. It's just very typical Cleveland housing -- and I agree it's found in other places too. I think the symmetry of the houses is cool. As for the subdivisiony entrance -- it sucks. But to their credit, the developers also are extending the existing north-south streets (W. 74th, W. 75th) right into the new development, as well as adding infill on W 74th outside the development. They are also building along pre-existing Goodwalt Avenue, on the development's southern edge. That makes the entrance a little more forgiveable in my book.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^Those are all complete. Off the top of my head, there's: - Detroit Avenue Lofts (next door to FKM) -- just finished - Vine Court Industrials, Vine Court near W. 29th - 5 infill townhouses on West Clinton near W. 38th (Rysar I think) - The old YMCA building at W. 32nd and Franklin, being developed into apartments by the same guy who did Detroit Avenue Lofts - Coral Group's townhouses at Franklin Circle (formerly Japanese townhouse project) - The old West Side Community House at Bridge and 30th, being developed into apartments - The old Jay Hotel at Jay and W. 25th, being developed into condos by Heartland Developers
