How typical of The Enquirer to wait until late on a Friday to post that story.

Why let TOAST see the City's hand?

^ I understand that, but too what end? Yet another ballot issue?? One that the suburbanites get to vote on? Or is WLW just trying to pimp their ratings during an otherwise slow local news season (ie, post election)?
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Even with their media allies TOAST couldn't defeat the Streetcar at the ballot box. Now that the election is over the Enquirer has dropped the streetcar issue like it was a hot potato. I don't understand why WLW is still pimping the anti-streetcar crowd so hard, I mean they lost and we won. The issue is settled.

The ironic thing is that the "700WLW" crowd always despised Smitherman. Now that he's TOAST's puppet they just love him. Hypocrites.

It will be like the TOAST fundrasier that that nobody showed up for, but the local media pimped anyway: http://cincinnatimonocle.blogspot.com/2011/10/nobody-showed-up-to-oct-3-coast.html

I had the same issue when I tried to read the article on my mobile, but it was fine on my laptop. Weird.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
"The special session was called by council members Chris Smitherman and Charlie Winburn. In a statement released Wednesday, they said, "The purpose of the meeting is not to talk about concept but tax payer money. Citizens in the city and region should be concerned that they may pay for the streetcar with their utility bills." They're all using TOAST's talking points. Of course this is just a publicity stunt because any proposal that Slitherman & Windbag make will be shot down. Don't be surprised to see Sittenfeld go along with these two demagogues, the guy just reeks of wannabe career politician (who wants to move onwards and upwards to County/State office then to Congress) who will tell any given group of people what he thinks they want to hear.

^ Because Bortz is going to run for County Commission he's decided to play it up for the township crowd and flip flop on a project that he's vocally advocated until now. He's the worst type of self serving hypocrite that there is.

If there is something going on behind the scenes that I am not aware of, I apologize. I get my information fron this site and from the media. What I am looking for is a line item in the city budget for construction of the streetcar, not a promise of funds from an outside source that may or may not materialize. Furthermore, the funding should be for the entire project, including all the required utility work, because demanding that the utilities spend their own money will only work if they have the money and are willing to share. The funding should inlcude a plan for operating costs, whether it be farebox or some other source. I consider casino money risky because it is not guaranteed. For those who don't know, it is common for grants to come with time limits. For example, a grant may stipulate that construction has to occur between 2012 and 2014; otherwise, the grant is retracted and the funding will go to a different project. If there is more than one grant, then they all have to be coordinated. This makes project scheduling all that much more important, because a delay could result in a loss of funding. It is much less risky to have the cash on hand. That said, I used to think that the streetcar was just another dream project that probably will never get built. Now, I think it has a much greater chance. I would not be surprised, though, if it doesn't actually open until 2017. Someone is playing the part of Concern Troll again.

I simply refuse to believe that having witnessed the County Commissioner's intransigence on MSD and knowing Frivolous Finney all too well, the City Solicitor and his staff has not researched the legalities of building the system vis-à-vis the utilities, the City's right of easements, etc etc etc. Finney's lawsuit threats are just a stall tactic, he hopes that there will be a change of administrations, council that will be anti-streetcar and kill the project.

Coast / Finney's use of taxpayer lawsuits is no surprise, he's filed dozens of them. Go to the clerk of courts website and search by attorneys under Finney's name and you can see all of them.

HA! They're still bitching about Fountain Square?? That project was completed what, 3 or 4 years ago? What a couple of losers. Fortunately, both Windbag & Smitherman will be marginalized and blocked on Council. The renovation of FS was done in October 2006. Over 5 years of progress on the "new" Square and people are still ripping it. They obviously haven't been there for a Bengals tailgate recently. Unbelievable. Only in Cincinnati.
