"authentically MPMF" That went out the door a long time ago, along with when bands were judged for MPMF by a panel of local people involved in the Cincinnati music scene via Sonicbids. Just sayin'.

I really do think that the original iteration of MPMF had run its course - and the original founders had one goal in mind when starting MPMF 15 years ago, and that was to help revitalize OTR and the city. I'd say that mission was accomplished a long time ago. Heck, even when CityBeat took over it changed too - actually having nationally known bands play, among other things. Change is inevitable, that's just something we have to accept. I attended two out of three days this year and I had a good time. Are there things MEMI needs to work on? Sure. But for a complete revamp it certainly was not horrible. I'm just glad that there is an event like this that has both national and local acts in Cincinnati.

I'd like to know why the lineup is disappointing. I've discovered a lot of great music this weekend - both local and national - thanks to MidPoint. I've always been more into the electronic or more experimental bands that I've seen a lot of there in the last few years. Was really interested in the afro beat and jazz stuff that was going to be there this year but didn't feel was worth 50 bucks a day for that and local bands that I like and can see anytime of the year. Last year there were literally 10 bands I wanted to see each of the 3 days, this year there were 3-4 on Fri and 2 Sat. I forgot I was pissed to see they didn't have any passes/tickets for single venues they have in the past because I would have done that on Sat if it had been available. Okay, that's cool. Just curious what your thoughts were.

I am thinking that CityBeat just didn't have enough resources to put on MPMF by themselves anymore, so they got help. Nothing wrong with that as long as there are no drastic changes to the festival itself.

Midpoint is supposedly an indie festival, or at least is now branded that way. Q102 is the complete opposite of that. It's as corporate as it gets and has been that way for 30-40 years. What Jake said. But since the shows are free, a trade-off like that will have to be accepted from time to time.

It's a great lineup. The only thing that gives me concern is the Q102 sponsorship of The Ting Tings. I highly recommend the June 26th show of Sloan & Mother Mother.

WLHS is what you were thinking about; it's not around any more. And you can thank Mt. Rumpke for blocking WOXY's signal to the east side... maybe. Yeah, WLHS! Those kids really impressed me. Couldn't believe it was high school kids putting together those playlists. Probably got cut when the West Chester folks refused to pass a school levy for the tenth time. Sad! If anyone wants a cool eclectic station to stream online, check out WFMU. Remind me of WOXY sometimes. The webstream for The Project is still up and running, and their social media accounts are still active. So if there's still 'fuzz' on the FM side it's probably either signal repairs or someone fell asleep at the wheel. Venturing off-topic here: When it was still student-run WLHS modeled itself after WOXY. They also did a feature on the station for their school magazine - which was a pretty slick affair for a high school publication. Lakota decided a couple of years ago to end the station and leased the signal to WMKV-FM 89.3, owned by Maple Knoll Communities, this simulcasting that now.
