  1. ...and don't forget the third option, the suburban Atlanta office park. An "expert in office relocation" seemed very certain ATL was a slam dunk.
  2. Is there any real possibility that Public Square or the Weston lots would be in play for the new justice center? Looking online, the only real discussion about that seems to be...here. Even if SHW takes its talents to South Beach, I don't see this critical real estate going to the same folks we all met in Season 3 of Serial.
  3. Oh I don't know "Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte, or perhaps Mars."
  4. So, would consolidating the automotive finishes division in Warrensville Hts be part of the R&D campus? I apologize if this was already addressed.
  5. In the media maelstrom between local blogger Ken Prendergast and used car salesman look-a-like John Boyd, personally my money's on Ken.
  6. I don't know what a "Boyd Co" is, but "Atlanta, Dallas and Charlotte" is such a throw away sentence. Sort of like saying the Patriots are gonna make the playoffs. Tell people something original or don't even bother.
  7. Actually, this is good news. I remember living in DC during Amazon HQ2-mania, it was always speculated that they would choose DC because Jeff Bezos acquired a massive new home there.
  8. Ken - Excellent Article. I never knew was that Morikis was disappointed with the new Eaton HQ. While I'm sure it's a short commute for many executives and has plenty of parking, it is quite sterile and creates very little sense of place.
  9. None of this is really evidence that SHW will stay in Cleveland or leave for "greener" pastures. Need I remind everyone that there's quite a long list of deeply entrenched, home-grown businesses that either moved out of Cleveland or allowed themselves to get absorbed by out-of-state competitors. And based on the timetable, SHW's deep footprint and employment base here can be replicated or replaced virtually anywhere. I want to be and continue to be optimistic, however.
  10. The article wasn't the best at tying the HQ decision to the lead paint hazards, but I agree with your sentiment on the PD comments section. There are some folks--who seemingly use multiple logins--who do little else than spoil any civic-minded article with conspiracy theories, and, of course, the occasional race-baiting. I am pleased that for the most part, the PD and cleveland.com provide the forum and just ignore the nonsense.
  11. Besides, I can't really see a conservative company like SHW get involved in the supertall race. But if they retain the Cleveland CBD as its HQ, they can have pretty much anything they want from a trophy tower to a corporate campus/research park.
  12. Point being, the statements being quoted--more likely paraphrased--can be interpreted a dozen different ways. The last 5 pages of commentary prove that (and little else). Fortune 500 executives are political creatures, so they really aren't able to drop hints one way or the other. More importantly, I doubt they know all the specifics themselves. Personal note, when I was a temporary/contract worker, we used to dissect everything our superiors would say about the duration and scope of the assignment, so I empathize with our friends at SHW. But until a specific announcement is made or leaked somehow, there's really not much to go on.
  13. So, if Sherwin Williams leaves Cleveland, can I return the paint I bought (and used) last month? Seriously, though, I'd love SHW to build a lofty tower on Public Square, as much as any other UrbanOhio commenter. But at this point, all we have are rumors and speculation.
  14. IMHO, the worst thing about the SW news is that community boosters and civic leaders are stuck having to play defense in keeping SW in Cleveland and won't be able to play offense in bringing other HQs here.
  15. I never considered the irony that the real Fed and the crypto "fed" could end up being right across the street from one another.
  16. That's an interesting question. When I was living in D.C., there were many scaffolding-covered sidewalks. When big crane lifts were needed, contractors would wait until Saturday and block off the whole street. It was a PITA on weekends, but it was a logical solution.
  17. This is upsetting to say the least. Passenger rail service in Elyria stopped in its tracks https://elyria.mynews360.com/news/137679/passenger-rail-service-in-elyria-stopped-in-its-tracks/
  18. Reopening the lower deck / subway of the Veterans Memorial Bridge with a Tower City connection makes a lot of sense. Pending an engineering / track alignment study of course. It isn't a perfect concept since, yes, some trains would miss out on serving the Waterfront Line, but since it is woefully underused, sad to say, but it's not like a lot of patrons will miss it. Besides, trains running to W 25th / Detroit and accessing the Flats West Bank, opens some new opportunities. And sets the stage for future expansion. I never considered a modern streetcar crossing the Bridge, though. Since we have so many problems with maintaining and operating diverse fleets of equipment, perhaps adding yet another system would be impractical. I took the subway tour during the Cuyahoga50 festivities, and they had rendering of cycling and pedestrian paths using the lower deck. As a sort of inverted High Line, I guess. With the upper deck on its "road diet" making room with cyclists and pedestrians up there, is the lower deck plan effectively canceled?
  19. Oh, good call on checking the Indians schedule. I took this on July 13, and the Twins were in town that weekend. Since Delta inherited its MSP hub from Northwest Airlines, it all makes sense now.
  20. Burke isn't useless. Come on, Delta just starting flying out of Burke. Perhaps Burke will be a new Delta hub! But seriously, I don't know why a Delta jet was there. A charter perhaps?
  21. I like your concept but I question whether light rail trains can make the ascent from Tower City onto the Veterans Memorial (Detroit-Superior) Bridge. Same question for curving the Waterfront line back through downtown.
  22. Agreed. Friday and Saturday evenings--especially during the summer? Seems to me that would be peak time for service.
  23. Are you talking about the project listed as "peninsula" on the Planning site? If you are, I am pleased that they are going to be re-worked. I am no architect or developer, but the images look more like something ripped from Pinecrest or Crocker Park and not something that embraces the river or the city.
  24. I wouldn't use BP's relocation as a metric of Cleveland's desirability. Yes, they moved to Chicago when they merged with Amoco. But later they moved their American HQ to Houston but it was since relocated to Denver.
  25. Ouch, that discussion for a different day and a different thread. Stark's probably right about Millennium Park. Keep in mind that Millennium Park is very well connected to the Loop, same with Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and D.C.'s National Mall. Each of those civic spaces has concert venues, monuments, and museums to keep visitors interested and engaged. So instead of saying "close Burke," how about being a little more visionary and ask what do folks want to Burke to become?
