  1. "Ohio is such a red state dump, I can't wait to move to a REAL place with CHARACTER like Nash-Vegas."
  2. Speaking of libraries, Calgary's new library is very nice. I personally think the Lumen is a fairly sturdy (if not particularly avant-garde) example of decent Ohio infill. Wood Companies in Columbus does great work too, and the Neighborhood Launch project downtown by Edwards is very well-built.
  3. Wow, the Illitches are actually renovating something in The District for once!
  4. I forgot that Murray left back in March. Wonder if she's regretting the move now? How many actual elected councilmembers are currently on City Council?
  5. How does Cleveland not have a Chuy’s? Dayton has a Chuy’s. (We also have two IKEAs that are closer to Dayton than the Pittsburgh and Polaris ones are to cleveland... not to rub salt in that wound.)
  6. Will this help shut up people who complain that all the development money goes to downtown? Probably not.
  7. I'm kind of surprised that vehicles carrying hazardous materials were even allowed over the bridge. As far as I know, all hazardous materials are banned on I-75 between the river and I-275 in Kentucky. If that's the case, someone is going to be in a lot of trouble.
  8. Would the block between Central Parkway and 12th remain one-way because of the streetcar?
  9. Kinsman in particular has four very roomy lanes, decently-long distances between traffic lights, and virtually no businesses or parking lanes along it to slow people down. 55th is a major arterial that suffers from similar design issues as Kinsman, with the added bonus of lots of turning traffic onto Euclid and Carnegie, which always increases the chance for collisions. Detroit at West Boulevard is also a nightmare intersection that's prone to speeding because of how many lanes it has in front of the Rapid station. Most, if not all of the rest of the street highlighted suffer from similar problems of being too wide and not having enough street activation along them.
  10. I wonder how much of it is also related to the dearth of freeways on the east side. I'm obviously not advocating for more freeways, but you see similar speeding/accident patterns on Dayton's west side, which is also mostly-black and the main transit corridors are all four-lane roads radiating out of downtown instead of freeways.
  11. Hopefully people just stop parking there altogether and they turn it into a transit lane 100% of the time.
  12. Interesting realignment they've come up with. I'm kind of surprised that there are no connections to Spring Grove in that layout, although I'm not sure how necessary that connection is/was. Does it really need to be 8 lanes wide though?
  13. Good to hear that they've been doing work on the Graphic Arts building. A fence went up a while back but at the time they said they weren't doing any work with the building yet.
  14. Will "Bicentennial Chic" ever come back in style?
  15. "White Trash Culture" definitely appears to have spread. Growing up in Cleveland the predominant blue-collar culture was definitely more Roseanne than Dukes of Hazzard, but every time I go home I seem to see more lifted trucks and flannel cut-offs and thick accents than I remember growing up.

It drives me insane how much the "nice" neighborhoods of LA are all hidden behind giant hedges. I get it, if you're a movie star or whatever you don't want people bothering you all the time, but it really does make Beverly Hills etc look super desolate compared to the wealthy neighborhoods of the Midwest and East. If I'm building a cool house, I want to show that off to the world, not hide it behind a 10 foot privacy fence. That's why West Adams is probably my favorite neighborhood in the city. Mainly because it feels like Clifton or something instead of a hedge maze.
  17. As long as we keep getting height along that corridor I'm happy. I just wish those storefronts would get occupied by more than a Biggby and Cassanos...

I finally started Twin Peaks, and it's definitely... Lynchian (is that a word?). Everyone gives off strong Flannery O'Connor vibes, except in rural Washington instead of the Deep South.
  19. The Hyperloop isn't a real thing, so it doesn't really matter whether it's posted in this thread or in the Elon Musk thread.
  20. ^Guide wheels have been around for decades, literally. Look at this guided bus in Australia: Literally nothing about this tunnel is revolutionary, or even evolutionary. There's already a 40 year old solution that carries more passengers than this dumb tunnel.
  21. Well-known actress, comedian eyes Dayton investments Actress and Comedian Tiffany Haddish is eyeing real estate in the Miami Valley. These include the Midget Theatre and other properties in West Dayton. She spoke about these properties and her time visiting the region with Dayton native Rob Lowe on his podcast, "Literally! With Rob Lowe," published Oct. 8. More below: https://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2020/10/16/tiffany-haddish-eyes-dayton-investments.html

That seems insanely high. Dayton estimated that the 6 mile bike trail it wants to build would be in the $5 million range.
  23. “We simplified this a lot. It’s basically just Teslas in tunnels at this point.” Elon Musk’s Las Vegas Loop might only carry a fraction of the passengers it promised https://techcrunch.com/2020/10/16/elon-musks-las-vegas-loop-might-only-carry-a-fraction-of-the-passengers-it-promised/amp/?__twitter_impression=true&fbclid=IwAR1X3_W6TDg7T8tsN_5gxFOAq2gJ8csZ4lj_jwy1jEmJ5h62bcq4cdhR-kY
  24. One day Colerain will complete its transition into being Cincinnati's Trotwood and maybe they'll finally wise up. Or they'll just keep blaming "Democrats" for "pushing the Section 8 people" out there. I still don't know who these people are who willingly live in Western Hills, but they apparently exist.
