  1. People pay $$$$$$$ to stay at far more lavishly over-the-top hotels at the Orlando resorts. Yeah Cincinnati isn't a theme park, but there is absolutely a market for this sort of kitschy throwback type stuff.
  2. Do these "anti-gentrifiers" actually ever talk to their Black neighbors? Because they don't want crap like that in their neighborhood either.
  3. This could probably be cross-posted in the Weird Real Estate Listings thread... https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5887-Batsford-Dr-Dayton-OH-45459/35048126_zpid/?
  4. Well, its facade was falling off, but unfortunately they decided to reclad it instead of blowing it up.
  5. Is that siding going up or coming down? I'd hope it's the latter.
  6. More off the cuff ramblings, but it would be great if Springfield actually grew enough to become a part of the Dayton MSA again.
  7. Springfield really could be a good bedroom community for Columbus and Wright-Patt employees. Now if only we could get a train running between Dayton and Columbus with a stop in Springfield...
  8. 1) Clifton Avenue doesn't go anywhere near Corryville, and 2) temporary? Just build it and people will forget it was never there in the span of a week.
  9. People in Cleveland also are familiar with Whaley, at the very least because she did build some name recognition both during her failed governor bid and because of the tornadoes/shooting. I don't know anyone up north who actually knows who Cranley is other than other urban wonks, and they all hate him. NEO simply does not think about Cincinnati.
  10. Looking like something out of Blade Runner 2049. Coincidentally, the book that the movies are based on was set in San Francisco, not Los Angeles.
  11. Oh, so THAT's what that is. Only in Dayton do you get a rehab that's nicer than some downtown townhouses.
  12. I didn't have my camera on me, but the structure for the Gem City Market is fully installed. Hopefully won't be too much longer till it opens!
  13. My mom's side of the family grew up in the Haymarket/Big Italy. We sure do love slum clearance.
  14. Dusty Rhodes already lost parking spots on Court for the streetcar substation and now he's going to lose even more? Where will his hundreds of daily visitors park when they come visit him?!
  15. The legendary Price building's unwrapping has begun:
  16. Don't forget Miami (people mover), Miami Beach (decorated bus), Denver (bus), Atlanta (bus), and Tampa (streetcar).
  17. Most cities in the country have a free circulator of some sort! Shut up, moron.
  18. Fifth Street to shut down for drinking, entertainment on weekends Fifth Street in the Oregon District will shut down to vehicular traffic on the weekends in September and October to give people more room to space out as they dine, stroll around, hang out and get to drink alcohol outside. The Oregon District business corridor will become Dayton’s first Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), where people are allowed to consume alcohol on the streets that are purchased at participating businesses. 19. Ugh, Pulte. Almost as bad as Ryan Homes. Maybe they'll at least name the streets after the old roller coasters. "I live on 1403 Raging Wolf Bobs Drive". Heh.
  20. How about we get an ice cream shop in downtown Dayton? It's absurd how few casual dessert options there are in the core.
  21. I think it's probably fine to telework when you've got a lot of "busy work" on your plate (making spreadsheets, updating CAD drawings, reviewing documents, etc) but I don't find teleconferencing very useful for strategic decision-making and the types of discussions that go along with that. It's hard to make big-picture roadmaps and manage entire systems when everyone is in different rooms.
  22. Have those tiny mansard-roof row houses at Vine and Clifton been rehabbed yet? I haven't been around that part of OTR in quite some time.
  23. I despise virtual meetings, and most Millennials that I talk to hate them too. They're even less productive than normal face-to-face meetings because you can just ignore them. I really doubt there will be as big of a shrink in office space as some people think.

That's an awful lot of non-existent trails... and seeing how long it took just to build that short section of the Wasson Way, this seems pretty blue-sky at this point. That Gilbert link should really be top priority, since that's really the only flattish way to get into and out of the basin.
  25. Wouldn't a beach just get washed away every year with the spring floods?
