Cincinnati: Random Development and News
CincyGuy45202 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis is GREAT that its been announced and is official. What I have heard is that Milhaus has been interested in expanding out of Indy and was looking at Cincy, Columbus or Louisville. They DO NOT want to do one project in a city. They want to do many units at various sites in the City they choose. Looks like they settled on Cincinnati. I've been told by a friend that the City is shopping other potential locations to them including areas in Walnut Hills, college hill and downtown. Also, I think it will give Towne Properties a run for their money. They are currently the biggest apartment owner in town and get a blank check from the City on anything they want and their product has been getting crappier and crappier. More competition = better experience for consumer. WELCOME MILHAUS

Cincinnati: Pendleton: Former SCPA / Historic Woodward Redevelopment
It's much much much more likely that the parking lot would become a building then ever become a park. Outside of Riverfront Park, the City isn't really in a position to create NEW parks out of non-park land.

I'm amazed this guy hasn't been caught by now.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Still sucks when a prostitute (Candance Demoss) is killed right outside my house while I'm gone on a trip. Much thanks to the drug-dealing neighbor that the police won't bust and who is still free (for now). She was a prostitute? Yikes. She had virtually nothing in her record that implies she's a prostitute. And news reported she had two kids, age 4 and 2 even though she's only 20. Crazy.

No, 13th between republic and vine.

Living Car Free
Figured I'd bump this thread now that there are 2 new Zipcars outside my place at 12th & Vine. Looks as though there are two locations in the CBD & 1 in OTR. I've been at free for 6 months and this is going to be awesome.

Interesting idea. How is Snap Fitness doing downtown? Independent gyms are very difficult now that gym's (now being last 20 years) have become so commercialized and are almost all just a handful of chains. If Snap Fitness is doing well, perhaps you could see another gym, But with the athletic club, YMCA, Snap, a handful of yoga & Pilates places, a crossfit on 7th, downtown & OTR might not be in a place for more.

I have seen them around 13th & vine and 13th & walnut. My neighbor said she saw them checking for unlocked doors inches and yelled at them.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
good news. Also, pretty sure I read City Council approved 4.1 Million for park for next year. I wish they would list what all is funded and what is not.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Holiday Inn
^ I agree. Quality of product makes more of a difference then design.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 21c Hotel (Metropole Building Redevlopment)
Metropole is nice looking. Original floor looks great. Very open with light wood, white paint, etc. As you eat they randomly move yellow penguins around the restaurant to various peoples tables. overall style and decor is great. Drinks were good, apps were good, desert was good, entrees were a little disappointing. Service was pretty good, took a little while to get our food but not too long (was only their third night open). Priced basically at what I would expect. Basically at the standard cincinnati nice restaurant prices. 2 people sharing two apps, an entree, two drinks and 1 desert was $80.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
My source is very reputable, I'm sure it will be in the news eventually. And yes, this is the roughly $60 million construction contract that includes rail, electric, stops, carbarn, etc. Utilities are funded separately and apparently all are good to go except duke. Streetcar purchase agreement to be signed in the next few weeks meaning cars will begin being built in January.

Streetcar went out to bid today! Bids due back mid-January.

A little birdie told me some good streetcar news is likely today. Crossing my fingers.

They're wrong. I Talked to a friend close to the project last night. Dunnhumby said no to apartments.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The average family that's moving to West Chester isn't republican. They just want a government that isn't in the news with something stupid all the time (10% raise for the City Manager) or whatever else the media wants to drum up. Also, as a side note, I've noticed that what feels like 90% of streetcar opponents... STILL DON"T KNOW THE STREETCAR GOES TO THE BANKS. Blows my mind.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
This is exactly what my source has told me. Dunnhumby was "nervous" and "worried" about having a residential component. Also, they have expanded to 300,000 square feet, up from the original 250,000. Still, very disappointed. Above ground component is 1 floor of retail. 3 floors of parking, 5 floors of office. 9 story tall building (but the stories should be quite large, so it will seem closer to 11-12 stories. So disappointing.

Interesting. I do like the way they look though.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I'm sorry, I usually really like your posts, but this one drives me nuts. Why on earth do you consider Neil a COAST stooge?! He was NOT endorsed by COAST, has no ties to COAST, is a proud union cardholder and was strongly opposed to SB 5 which Donovan and coast supported. Where can you see anything that makes him anti-city? Yes he say he's not a streetcar supporter, but that doesn't make him Anti-city and he has no influence on the streetcar anyway. Declaring any democrat who doesn't support the streetcar anti-city & a COAST Stooge is pretty ridiculous. I'm not saying I like Neil, but that he's not some COAST stooge as they wouldn't even endorse him and he was a strong opponent to SB5 which coast loved.

Cincinnati: Interstate 75
^ should be noted the box girder is in bad shape and recently received a 5 out of 10 rating on the cities bridge list. All other bridges around FFW are 8's. Something to do with its construction and not with the actual design itself. I'm surprised we don't have more Of those. I lived out west during coop in college and saw those everywhere. Why does OH have so few?

CincyGuy45202 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionMaybe interested in seeing someoe ELSE opening a market. I've been told this whole hold up has been he's broke and is bleeding money at 1 of his 3 stores. He's actually shutting that one down now and moving all his old equipment to Clifton because he can't get financing to open the Clifton market. No way he opens a downtown grocery. I'm sure the Clifton one will succeed because the community is very supportive, but no new store for him.

Cincinnati City Council
You just argued that under 9 at large seats Council responds well to citizen concern, then you said we should do wards so that 8 of the 9 councilmembers might say, "I don't care about hyde park, they don't vote for me, why do we keep spending money to repaint their streets when they're already doing great, people in MY district just want their streets painted ONCE not over and over". Just playing devils advocate on the ward system. Also, I feel like the idea that raising money for reelection and campaigning to building support among constituents for important issues (like the streetcar) are the same couldn't be further from the truth. Getting called every two years to give hundreds of dollars each to 9 different democrats running for council is pretty crazy. The fact that all of them have to keep having fundraisers with rich people (or moderate income people) all the time to raise $100-300k every other year seems to be a huge waste of money and time.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I've been told they are down to one thing: Duke wants a status of forces agreement (jk.. they want some special rules in place on how and when they can stop the streetcar). The City is fine with that in concept, but Duke is asking for way too much right now and approving its request would be unprecedented and lead to a situation where the City can't control what happens in its streets. Duke won't give the City a construction schedule (how long they estimate moving utilities will take) until this agreement is signed. The City wants the schedule so they can go to bid and then will work with duke on the agreement over the next few months. My friend has said the City could go to bid as soon as Nov 1 if Duke gives them the schedule. Nov. 1 bid date means full on construction could start, weather permitting as soon as late january/early february.

Sycamore Township: Kenwood Collection
Cool. I hope this thing succeeds. But I hope it's main draw is businesses from Mason & West Chester that want to be closer to the core but aren't ready for downtown.
