Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I'm sure all of The Banks is TIF financed and abated. I think it's about time to start to hold back on the giant abatements we always give.

Guys. It's 19 days to the election. THE MEDIA IS NOT GOING TO CALL HIM OUT. Volunteer for two hours a week for Roxanne for the next 3 weeks. That's the only thing that'll do it.

The number listed on the auditors site is the RMV. The taxes are based on 35% of that number. It is a huge benefit, actually, to the owner if your property is undervalued. Usually if it is undervalued and is sold for a higher amount, the auditor is quick to adjust their value to get additional tax. I don't see the auditor undervaluing a property because of a political agenda. There's nothing to gain, really, and ultimately you're helping your enemy by giving them a tax break. Well, if your goal is to "shrink [government] down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub", one way to accomplish that is to undervalue properties and reduce the amount of income that the city and county get. That lowers rents and would cause the population to increase, though. If you overvalue the 'burbs and undervalue the city more people and businesses will move into the city. That will eventually bringing rents (and property values) back to equilibrium. If my value is 20% lower than market (thereby lowering my taxes), I'm not going to rent for 20% under market. I'll probably rent 5% under to undercut competition but then enjoy my extra 15% margin.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
^ all correct. The sales tax covers the debt payments. It's the upgrades we can't afford. That's why the reds are much better than the bengals. They share cost in almost every upgrade while bengals so far have refused to. Also, if our stadium had a roof it would be used WAY more. But mike Brown said, no roof and no naming rights or we leave. Douche. Also, KyleCincy, please email [email protected] and [email protected] with a simple email saying. I love low taxes, but our crime lab is a mess and upgrading it while freeing up 100 new jail beds is a smart investment. Please consider the proposal to make those upgrades. Now- back to those Bengals...

I got Smitherman and I thought the statement didn't really sound very Smitherman esque. After the survey it says the paragraph you read was not actually from the campaign but was made up by researchers. Very interesting.

Can we get a number of reasonably written letters saying rail is in the ground. It could cost $80 million to cancel it. Let's all get on board to make sure it's a success. Remember. We want to show the moderates(swing voters) we're the reasonable ones and this is going to happen so let's make it good. 4-5 positive concise letters.

20 days to settle the streetcar debate. Has everyone volunteered for a streetcar candidate? Or made a donation? Most are very easy at their campaign pages to donate.

Agreed. Landsman gets my vote. A lot of people on here we're criticizing Seelbach a few months ago (pre-Deatrick) because he was being critical of the streetcar in the media. I think Landsman is trying to do the same thing. Support but push and be critical of mistakes. Plus, so long as some sort of sponsorship money, even a fairly small amount, is in the operating budget and uptown consortium throws and maybe even only $1-2 million, Greg can turn around and say see, I made sure there was private funding.

Crazy. Has everyone early voted already? You should early vote so that you can spend some time volunteering on election day for a pro-streetcar candidate.

Here is my predictions of the likelihood of non-incumbents winning. (s) stands for streetcar supporter. Also, don't assume all streetcar incumbents are safe. People with virtually 0 chance of winning: Shawn Butler (s) Kevin Johnson (s) Angela Beamon Melissa Wegman Timothy Dornbusch Sam Malone People with a chance to win in a major upset: Michelle Dillingham (s) Mike Moroski (s) Vanessa White Most competitive non-incumbents: Greg Landsman (s) David Mann Amy Murray Kevin Flynn

It's "community building" on the part of the police. builds trust, a relationship etc. This is a community that used to be strongly at odds with Cincinnati PD. Now they are much more cooperative.

I saw the mailer yesterday. Didn't get it but a friend did. it looks pretty cheap. Also, didn't Seelbach technically vote against the parking deal? they list him as having voted for the parking deal. I wonder if that's worth an elections complaint. In other news- I wish they were working on the streetcar full blast every weekend...

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
CincyGuy45202 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationA 3CDC affiliate is who sold it to them according to auditors records. They had plans for a partnership with Model Group and Talbert House for low income supportive housing. I have no idea why they wouldn't just move it to market rate apartments if that project fell through. Very disappointing. That being said- I checked and it already is designated historic.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
CincyGuy45202 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationDavis Furniture building demo permit has been applied for. Plan is to demolish it for parking. Ironically, the streetcar is supposed to stop in front of that building. Also, the Dennison Hotel building has just been purchased by the Joseph auto group, who owns the giant surface lot adjacent to the property. They are certainly interested in tearing it down.

Not to be negative towards Kevin Johnson, who I think has run a very decent independent campaign, but this reminds me of the FLP endorsements and 2011 where they endorsed Jason Riveiro as sort of the surprise longshot candidate. Of course, Jason finished 15th or something and it is very likely Kevin will end up in the 13 to 15 range as well.

Thomas was listed as a host for a Cranley fundraiser and PG probably gave a non answer but they know who he supports. Also, did they endorse any streetcar supporters?

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
2005 was the exact same. Pepper vs Mallory, party doesn't endorse. Cranley used to be a major democrat on Council. A lot of people remember that and not that he's gone far right. Plus, there are plenty of democrats against the streetcar.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Homicide of a "youth" in North Fairmount. The number of african american homicides really is insane when you think about it. From my very unofficial tally I think there have been 2, maybe 3 white homicides this year and 50 black homicides.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
CincyGuy45202 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionvery exciting project for Mariemont. Mariemont and Wyoming are my two favorite suburbs. Randy's proposed municipal consolidation was almost entirely poor or financially struggling neighborhoods that the city of Cincinnati would then have to deal with. Mariemont and Wyoming (along with Amberley) were somehow left off that list. They are the ONLY 3 municipalities (maybe Norwood if all of its debt could be cancelled) that I think should join the City of Cincinnati.
