every win with both Phillips & Votto out is so great. If the reds go .500 for the rest of the season they would end up with a record that ties or beats some of 2011's wild card teams and I don't think anyone expects the Reds to go .500 for the rest of this season.
  2. They are gone, that's why the building is in receivership.
  3. Really?~! I didn't even realize it had opened. I figured someone would have covered a ribbon cutting or something.
  4. He deleted everything apparently. It anyone had seen his old comment history they were all pretty nuts and gossipy. I have close friends at Bakersfield who I'm pretty sure we even working that night. One has said she saw nothing and heard about nothing but that the "Seth" guy is a cook who apparently hates his job and complains about everything. Hoping to hear from the other guy as well. Update: just talked to my other friend who confirmed he paid his bar tab (or at minimum his card was charged after he left). That Seth guy said it was comped but that appears not to be true.
  5. It wasn't that the apartment project failed so much as it was a hotel developer reached a deal first. Building is in receivership, previous owner wanted office space but went bankrupt. I think it was an out of state company. Receiver was approached by SREE and a deal was made. My understanding is the agent working for the receiver had commented on possibly apartments, but without parking there was little movement
  6. Very cool- but strange ending... I was like, huh?
  7. My buddy emailed me the city link yesterday. It showed up on the City's website a couple days ago under the Budget & Finance Agenda for Monday. Item #5. http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/noncms/council/uploads/agendbf.pdf I'm mixed on this... I think I would have rather had 100 apartments...
  8. Recent post about COAST lays out their newest attack: Construction "started" 6 months ago but nothing has happened yet. Will seem true for about 2-3 more months (until contractor is announced) but then they'll need a new argument. Additionally- I've decided that by posting peoples supposed complaints about random streetcar systems constantly, they have shown that streetcars get great ridership.
  9. ^ ya- Republic is where the riots started- 12th & vine had the highest police calls in the city. It'll get better eventually. A few answers: 13th and walnut (columbia building) is owned by Fannie Mae who got it when the previous New York based owners went broke. For those who don't know, Brackett Village (all the early 1990's new town home style low income places) are owned by Eagle Realty (as JYP mentioned) which is a wholly owned subsidiary of.... Western & Southern. It's often said that W&S built all of that to begin moving all section 8 people out of downtown so downtown could redevelop with less low income. Moving forward, we need to call dispatch every time something illegal is going on there. Often we get desensitized and just ignore it, apparently that corner isn't even that high on the Cities call lists (called a friend to complain this morning) mainly because lots of us just ignore it and keep walking.
  10. Ya- you know that If there were many muggings they'd be front page news. There was an article in the enquirer titled "Foutain Square Attack Self Inflicted". If that gets to the front page online just imagine how much they'd push a real robbery of a white person in OTR.
  11. Email your councilmembers about your Northside project. You never know!
  12. I'm going with mass government conspiracy. Fishy indeed These numbers are estimated based on best data available at the time. That means sometimes abrupt adjustments happen, they show trends well however.
  13. Children's Museum was just renovated a few years ago and CMC just absorbed Freedom Center & are trying to raise money to renovate Union Termjnal. Unless someone is going to donate $1,000,000 ONLY if it moves to that location, it also has no chance of happening.

Pretty sure there are 0 plans to tear down any active skywalks that are completely enclosed. Focus has been on low used ones with no walls at this time.
  15. Great news. I'm as pro city as anyone but I also support this development (just wish it was Ina city & not a township). The majority of Hamilton County is still the urban part of our metro. I'd rather have a semi-suburban/faux urban style development built at Kenwood mall than the $100 million new sprawl-central development off I-75 between Monroe & Springboro. At least this has some vertical elements to it. That's a big deal for its location.
  16. Nearly all of those artsy films on that website are playing at the Esquire as we speak. The likelyhood of a movie theater there is almost 0. We're adding a second major multiplex in Oakley & there are three independent theaters already (Esquire, Mariemont & Kenwood) that play great movies.
  17. Couldn't disagree more- I'm an atheist, but the fact that 100-300 years ago gorgeous structures were built in europe that still stand to this day, are open to anyone and provide great history and culture to the neighborhoods they reside in is hardly a bad thing.
  18. Very cool. I'd noticed a lot of activity there, several people showing it including Vice Mayor Qualls who I forget is a realtor. The most important thing for that place will be to brighten and liven up that corner. Exterior lights, etc. the gap between walnut & main is so dead.
  19. Also, because I want to see if these are random crimes, or probably crimes against someone by their "friend" or an acquaintance. They are almost always against someone with a huge rapsheet, meaning they likely aren't random crimes.
  20. ^ correct. If you want to really help a homeless person you see on the street, donate to/volunteer with Tender Mercies, the Drop, freestore foodbank, or just buy them food. Do not give them money. And city blights, do you know how much poor people get in subsidies?! How is it good to teach responsibility by just giving away thousands of dollars a month just for existing. I was in the Kroger on vine & the girl infrint of me, probably 28 or 30 had 6 kids in tow and bought $160 in mostly junk food . She paid $9 (for the beer) after she swiped her foodstamp card. The government gives tax breaks and subsidies based on the number of children you have. Remember the lady last year who was arrested for child endangerment and admitted she was having children (had 8) to get more government money? I wasnt saying the 14 year old should go to jail, but at 14 I knew not to kill people, and the point I was making is that if you're 14 and are that screwed up its your parents fault. And what's wrong with school districts? You can go the CPS and get a PERFECT education if your parents and the parents of your colleagues do a moderately decent job at making sure you do your homework. If you put these same struggling kids in a mason school they will do just as bad. It's 100% parental involvement and community support. The only thing CPS could change is class size, but still, without parental support you're immediately disadvantaged. The best thing we can do for these kids is take them away from criminal parents. It's sad to say that, but that's one of the only ways to break the cycle.
  21. I'll agree that we need some major changes to first time & juvenile offender sentences & treatments. All first time offenders should have to meet with a therapist and/or engage in other sociable programs. The main point should be rehab, not punishment. But when we have 14 year olds shooting pregnant women (happened in OTR last year) you think that person can be turned around to a productive member of society? Their community is only hurting them- especially when his mom said, he's a good kid. The hell he is! there has to be a point where we say, sorry, your family, your community & the system failed you, but you're too dangerous and a drain on resources, you need to be removed. Its part situation & part personal choices. There are reasons juvenile records are sealed, so that someone still has a chance, but it also is about choice. One of my best friends grew up poor in Avondale, saw violence all the time but hated it. He got in fights as a kid, but moved out, ended up going to Cincy state, then UC and by the time he was around 27 he had a degree, and is starting a career. Sadly, I don't have any other friends I know of who grew up in Avondale, so his situation is probably uncommon, but is it my job as a taxpayer to save every kid in Avondale? Especially when the community gets pissed at white adoption or white churches coming into the neighborhood and providing services (CityLink took huge hits from developers, white residents & black churches).
  22. This is the rap sheet of a 30 year old Theodore Palmer, likely to be the same gentlemen who was killed today. It kind of blows my mind, if Ohio had a 3 strikes law for violent crime this guy would have been put in jail for life in 2005 (by mid 2005 he had been convicted of three violent crimes, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, domestic violence). Instead, he committed 22 more crimes after that time in which he was charged (surely countless others he was not charged for) and ultimately was killed. The FBI has estimated that each murder costs a community $3 million in police, hospital, and other resources used throughout an entire investigation, attempts to revive the individual, coroners work, etc. Then think of what the cost has been of this gentlemen's actions against the already clogged court system? Against public safety? Had be been put away in 2005 he may have still been alive today. I know that a 3 strikes law isn't without its major flaws, but when you look at this guys 37 court cases on his rap sheet, some including multiple charges per case, it's pretty clear that he wasn't going to "get better" any time soon and only would have continued to drain the system. sad.
  23. Sidewalks will be 15 feet on the north side (up from about 5-6 feet today) and 13-14 feet on the south side.
  24. The owner of the 1132 bar & cell phone store building is an older (late 60's) white guy who hates 3CDC and has sworn on his life he will never sell to them. Across from that, where most people loiter is a beat up older Urban Sites building.
  25. I'm assuming they're referring to the lawn which comes across as barren as its all grass & surrounded by new, not that large trees. However, as the point is to be able to hold large events with lots of people, putting trees there would make the huge events they want pretty difficult
