  1. Not how it works in our open primary system. All candidates run in the primary, and then the top two vote getters square off in the general. In 2005 Mallory and Pepper, both Dems, ran against each other in the November general election. One thing to remember- there would have to be NO major African American candidates on the primary ballot for both Cranley & Qualls to end up as the top vote getters. Pretty slim chance of that.
  2. None that I've heard.
  3. Ya, Cranley would definitely have a shot at it. In his last election, Qualls beat him out by only 3 votes for top vote getter.
  4. I've heard Cranley will run for mayor against Roxanne. Seems like he will be running on an anti-streetcar platform.
  5. ^ haha seriously. the most random "argument" in the history of Urban Ohio. In REAL news... Pittsburgh is cutting 13 stops from the T. And while the article starts dramatically, it sounds like it's no big deal to cut these small stops. Longer walk to T frustrates some as 13 stops are cut Nick Salmen and his family rented an apartment in Beechview because it was close to the Traymore stop on Port Authority's Red Line. Having no car, they use the T to get around, sometimes riding up the line to the Hampshire stop in the neighborhood's business district. Mr. Salmen reacted in disbelief this week upon learning that both stops are among 13 on the Light Rail Transit system that are being eliminated June 25. "I can't believe they're shutting it down. That's crazy. That's going to make fun times for travel," he said as he wheeled a basket full of groceries along Broadway Avenue. http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/news/transportation/longer-walk-to-t-frustrates-some-as-13-stops-are-cut-639764/
  6. The Video in that link says Monday! Exciting- although this place isn't really my thing, I hope it does great. Also, for some reason they included la crepe nanou even though that got dropped months ago. :)
  7. Then again- there's always more work to do!! I was talking to a girl (25 years old) who lives in blue ash today- She was like WHAT! OTR!? so dangerous! I actually think the OTR Chamber and their new president should work on bringing more suburban shoppers into OTR as well as working on some empty, non-3CDC storefronts.
  8. Here's the thing-- Either no freeways need to be updated, or urban ones as well as suburban ones do. This widening in particular isn't horrible. Eastern corridor on the other hand is complete CRAP, but fixing mill creek expressway benefits downtown just as much as it benefits the suburbs. You don't want jobs LEAVING downtown because their suburban workforce can't get there. In the mean time, let's keep working on getting that suburban workforce to move into the City. The fact that the freeway is beautifully widened in the suburbs and crap in the City doesn't help us. Since they aren't going to fund our streetcar, we might as well make sure they upgrade some of our infrastructure. Just my two cents!
  9. Also, you can guarantee that when Walgreens moves they will leave their empty building sitting there. They should be required to take it down. One use buildings NEVER get reused well.
  10. You are putting a lot of faith in the westside (green township, delhi, etc. who will not get a rail line in any countywide light rail plan). Why would it have passed with a unigov and not with Metro Moves?
  11. ^ Are you serious? You weren't the only person to say it was a bus... and others didn't seem to be joking. That was my polite way of correcting someone who also thought it was a bus. Also... that was almost 2 weeks ago- bizarre that you're just noticing this now.
  12. If I remember correctly... Crave is opening Monday, right?
  13. Exactly. People are freaking out because the numbers don't line up. These are just the official government numbers. And they are estimates- not exact counts . But the trends they show ate usually pretty accurate.
  14. what is with people on this thread? No one is making you read this. Seriously. Just stop looking at this thread if it's that frustrating. These are official government numbers & estimations. Of course theyre not set in stone but they're often a food indicator of trends. I'd it pisses you off so much stop commenting on this thread and let those of us who enjoy these updates have civil discord and discussion about trends of our metros.
  15. Such a waste. 5 years from now I bet people will be saying, well crap, I wish we'd built that taller. Once I've heard a friend with peripheral knowledge of the project mention that Dunnhumby is keeping the option open of adding 3 more floors in the future. Has anything you've heard implied that it's being built with the option of further expansion?
  16. My guess from piecing together rumors I'd heard was 8-10 stories. If it's 12 or 13 I'll be totally happy actually. Obviously would rather have had this be a 25 story tower, but such is life.
  17. It's really true. And while it seems that he actually hasn't done ANYTHING and his only proposals I've heard about have been crap that wouldn't fix a thing, people LOVE that he's MAD all the time about "government". In all honesty, when it comes to progress in the City of Cincinnati over the next 5 years, removing Smitherman from office in 2013 should be just as important as anything else. He has the ability to make regular calm moderate people FURIOUS at the great things that are happening in Cincinnati. Even if Smitherman is replaced by another Republican it will be better. Being the president of the NAACP he has a larger megaphone than almost anyone who might replace him.
  18. I don't think that's a bus... Biker, can you confirm either way?
  19. No, the 26,800 for Cleveland was for the increase in people who became employed over the last year. It's not the same thing as number of non-farm jobs, where Cleveland actually lost 800 in the last year. Exactly. An entire Metro can lower unemployment but still lose actual jobs. If I have 10000 empty jobs in 2011 and 1 year later I higher 600 people but eliminate 400 jobs (like a business moving out of Ohio) my mini metro has increased employment by 600, but non-farm jobs have decreased by 400 since those jobs are now gone from the market.
  20. Glad you brought this back! Thanks for the great data, I really love this thread.
  21. Well then thank god. Cause that's a big coincidence. Age, race, name.
  22. On a more serious note- I'm shocked at the fact that of Ohio's 13 metros only three are growing. And more shocked that I found almost no other States in that bad of shape. I obviously knew the vast majority of Cities would be declining but assumed most of the metros would be stagnant or barely growing as opposed to declining. Scary!
  23. Farewell Cleveland...
  24. ^ Gotcha. ya, counting Dayton adds about another 850,000 to the region's population.
  25. Isn't that what we're doing, voicing our opinions outward? Not really... Urban Ohio is an "open forum" but it's crazy to assume that developers, managers, city leaders, etc. would be reading things that are posted on here. I did a basic google search and found: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Banks/100978646612808?ref=ts http://twitter.com/#!/TheBanksCincy [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] In a nice, smart way, say that after such great public investment, and with the economy picking up, we should be ensuring that the developer build a higher quality development that is less likely to age with time or become dated, etc. Since we're counting on these being here for the next 40-50 years, they should be of a better quality than a typical apartment development. or whatever else you want to say. I think that's why god invented google. As I said earlier, there is great information and great discussion on this thread. But I highly doubt that any political leaders/major developers read this. If you want something told to someone in charge, find their email, and send your thoughts! :) Also, letters to the editor about the importance of raising the bar in Phase 2 of the Banks would be good as well.
