1. This must be a typo.... It doesn't even make sense, especially that you follow it with saying more people will be walking around. Just to be clear, the entire Cincy metro is 2.2 million, not 3.2 (that's about minneapolis's size)
2. It's only good if we're voicing our opinions outward! Anyone email the banks people?
3. Well, let's hope it's good & successful and we get our money back!
4. Just to be clear, those two images aren't renderings for this project, but are renderings by the same architecture firm for other projects. I'm hoping the new building looks similar though as I think that would raise the bar of an otherwise architecturally boring block (Hyatt, Millenium, 6th & Race apartments, FSW).
5. As of a month ago it was $1,500 for a one bedroom. I highly doubt they are going to raise that by $300.
6. If anybody is near this tomorrow please take some pictures! I'm never up in CUF (car-free and don't head uptown much for some reason...) but I'd love to see the project!
7. I even wonder if they'll remove the old one. That would be a LOT of work just to take something out of the ground and fill it back up with dirt. Pretty sure water mains are about 3 feet underground. from this picture (from the CityKin blog), it looks like a Streetcar slab is only about 1 foot deep. Pretty sure they would just go right over the abandoned main.
8. Ya- basically, Mike Brown has to consent to less parking. EVEN THOUGH we have MORE parking now than we did 3 years ago. Haven't the banks added just about 1700 spaces on top of the existing (roughly) 2000 that were already there. Yet, apparently he has to "allow" the county to transfer the land to the city. I'm guessing there's some bullshit clause in his lease.
9. I've been told by reputable sources that they can't go west of the Roebling bridge until Mike Brown allows the County (who owns all that parking still) to transfer it to the city. And that no one knows when that will be. For now, the plan seems to be to do the part east of the main street fountain & the area that is currently a construction staging site.
10. ^ ya- I'm hoping as the southern part of the park is further developed it becomes more impressive. The quality of the walnut street steps and walnut fountains is truly incredible. When you go south, things are nice... but not impressive. It's a crappy cement walkway surrounded by beautiful limestone finishes, the cement sidewalk vs. asphalt bike trail is very confusing, etc. I need to keep reminding myself its just not finished. Also-- I really don't understand the strange space at the bottom of the walnut street steps and to the right. No plants, just a large flat pavered area where you can look at the fountains. I'm sure once the western part of the fountain is open this area will feel more purposeful.
11. ^ what was the crowd like? Interesting to hear as there was a reds game
12. Pretty sure the only thing that can be added outside of Toby Kieths are flower pots. 2nd street and it's sidewalk are a bridge. No dirt there!
13. Well- This reminds us that we're not the only backassward midwestern City when it comes to smart transit development. Also, in a twist of fate, we give them hope that they can overcome all of the adversity they have to put up with.
14. Ya, and I don't see how anyOne can argue that the parking lot that was there would be better than the grass. And there was 0 chance that would ever be a building. It was a tiny triangle parking lot owned by the county. No developer was going to touch it.
15. I'm sure the tenants would oppose something. If you were paying a premium for a view wouldn't you want to keep it? What likely will happen is the rent premium the owner is charging to the river view units would go down. That's how the market would solve it. At the same time- that lot is not very large, and knowing the way buildings are built in this market, that site will probably at most be a 6-8 story building. Just my opinion based on local developers, other buildings, etc.
16. Great write up! Very exciting! Any bets on how quickly these go? I'm going with 75% leased in 3 weeks, 100% leased in 7 weeks.
17. A more modern concern would be that Northside needs a better grocery store... Families care about that kind of thing.
18. Yo is also citing the CA prices. You could expect some things to be a dollar to two less here.
19. Confirmed- Yard House to open first Ohio location. Have not heard a timeline on construction.
20. 13th & walnut is one of the worst apartment buildings in all of OTR. Also, due to the nature of the type of crime these. People partake in, anyone who was not a criminal was probably never in any danger. These are targeted shootings within a specific group of people who all know each other.
21. This thread is for the 3rd & Broadway garage which W&S has said they want to replace with a skyscraper. The Anna Louise Inn (subject of the recent post) is a 4 story historic building in Lytle Park and has been open since 1906. There are no plans (nor is it possible) to replace the Anna Louise Inn building with a skyscraper (historic building, on top of I-71).
22. ^ Could not disagree more with regards to a successful, functional non-profit who does not want to leave its location (as opposed to City Gospel Mission). Bullying out non-profits with a litany of lawsuits is a horrible way to promote repopulating downtown.
23. Sometimes I think people forget this part of main when they talk about the streetcar. This area will benefit GREATLY.
24. Demo should NOT happen. It's entirely savable & modern development would rarely lead to a building on that site, more likely just parking. This is across the street from a streetcar stop for gods sake!
