  1. I don't know if I will even bother Why??? Winning the primary is INCREDIBLY important for Qualls. If Cranley wins by 2-3 points fundraising dollars will pour in for him by republicans who see him as having a viable shot to win. If Roxanne wins by 4-6 points people will tell Cranley to pack it up. and big business donors will swing towards roxanne because people like to back a winner. Everyone on here who cars about urban progress SHOULD GO VOTE in the primary. To not is beyond foolish.
  2. Correct. He will argue that by losing $150 million now in canceling the project he is saving $200 million in operating dollars over the next 40 years.
  3. Uhhh.... some of the most historic places in america and europe still have mcdonalds and subways in storefronts. It happens. Get over it. Also, you realize THIS is the storefront that we're talking about. They are moving into an already existing storefront. Not building some new suburban style drive through.
  4. All of those 4 families have the same owner interestingly enough.
  5. Also- the more I think about it that's complete crap. USquare only has one restaurant open and it's Been open for a month. Unless he did a market study that said he needs to close he has no idea how it will impact his business.
  6. The building was built in 1949. Also, I've heard Arby's moved out because of a horrible rat problem
  7. There's no specific dollar amount. It's everything they've done plus an extra percentage for profit. So the further along they get the more expensive it is to cancel.
  8. Are those 4 families in Oakley?
  9. Fun Fact: That picture titled Anderson Township is actually mostly Mt. Washington. Mt. Washington is about the bottom 60% of the image.
  10. Used to get along with democrats. She has moved farther and farther right. Charter has become more and more irrelevant. They are supporting all people who support the parking charter amendment. constant charter amendments are what charter is supposed to be against. Charter is now this wishy washy nothingness that should entirely be abandoned or needs to stop endorsing candidates and do something else like issues.
  11. Not true- He could pay back the federal grants without raising taxes. He would just have to kill many other capital projects (new westside police station, recreation and park renovations, riverfront park expansion, and cut street paving). He wouldn't HAVE to raise taxes. But he would have to kill some important projects.
  12. What about a pocket veto for funding some critical unforeseen something or other? At this point it's fairly safe that the first phase will be built. That being said, the streetcar will be alright in phase 1, but truly has always been intended to go to UC and the hospitals. That is where you see the best potential. Cranley can singlehandedly prevent council from ever studying or funding phase 2. Mayor's in Cincinnati do have that power. could be a 9-0 vote and the mayor is able to hold it off the calendar indefinitely (he must place every item on the calendar before the term is up however). Now, if Cranley wins and 1 supporter... just ONE loses and is replaced by a non supporter than the project could be killed at a huge taxpayer expense, but one Cranley seems to be convinced will be worth it. we cancelled a subway that was half done... we can cancel a half done streetcar. Back to progress. Has anyone noticed the amount of work Cincinnati bell is doing on 12th! looks like it has been closed almost every day this week for utility work.
  13. The plan is do something in a couple years when the county can afford to build more parking. The development agreement requires the city to pay for 75% of the above ground parking. Stadium lease allows teams to kick people out of garage at 6pm except for even tickets ($15). No residents can park under ground.
  14. Who has voted early yet? If you're downtown go to the BOE on Broadway to the second floor and vote! Took me 6 minutes in and out. Fundraising and momentum will all depend on the winner of the primary. Super easy, do it!
  15. 8th st Viaduct was just rebuilt in 2008, right??
  16. Dayton must have some epic Macy's Thanksgiving day parade sized floats. We sure don't! :P
  17. I find this kind of uninformed speculation hilarious. spoke to a person highly invovled in the management of the streetcar project today. he confirmed it's very likely that there will be times when the line is shutdown briefly for parades. said it may be possible to move some of the parades and events and put up barricades to allow it to cut through the larger weekend festivals, but that "the likelihood of moving the findlay market opening day parade away from findlay market is 0". have any of you been to the findlay market parade where it actually sets up? starting at 9AM they have nearly 4 thousand people and nearly 200 floats and vehicles on race, elm & henry. I'll place a friendly wager that at the first opening day the streetcar is shutdown from 9AM to 2PM. just like in portland on their rose festival grand floral parade.
  18. Did anyone go back stage? The entire area was shut down. This event wasn't so big back there that there is a small chance the streetcar would continue to operate, but we need to realize, just like in Portland, for parades and festivals the line gets shut down. It happens. Obviously on Opening day the streetcar will very likely be shut down from 8am until the parade ends. Portland does this as well for big parades. I suppose, with some very diligent planning they could keep the streetcar open for Oktoberfest or Taste but it will be pretty nuts and would take lots of fencing, and security to make it work. As an urban circulator it's definitely going to shut down sometimes. But be open the vast majority of the year.
  19. Everyone needs to realize the streetcar would very likely have been shutdown for lumenocity. Just like it will be shut down for Oktoberfest & Taste.
  20. I think that's well said. If Greg replaces Smitherman or Pam Thomas or takes the empty seat I'm ok with that and think he'll be fine and in the end will support the streetcar.
  21. They aren't going to endorse. If they do, Cranley will say: "I'm the democrat she's the charterite" which is even what some people have posted on here. Also, if they did endorse her he will push for dem party to endorse saying "see she's the charterite endorse me". It will lead to a mess.
  22. Pretty sure they won't put them in until spring. Planting new trees in summer is usually not the best idea. Definitely hate all the concrete.
  23. Vantiv left Madisonville for Mason when they were spun off. I've heard they want a suburban office space with large open floor plates.
  24. Also with the impending purchase of Saks they would be free.
  25. Council cut $20 million in May. They just restored 3.8 million. Lets not exaggerate that there was 0 deficit.
