Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Yves Behar replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI work in the West End (I'm in it right now) and I'm here almost everyday. In my experience spending my days here for the past 4 years, I'll say that I don't see much of an independent movement sparking any kind of expansion out of OTR. I feel like it will take some sort of concentrated effort by the city (a la 3CDC) to bring forth any real change. Petty crime, littering and vandalism are major issues over here, and the lack of continuity in the building stock of most streets will make it difficult to get any unification until structures are built to fill these gaps. I'm not saying that it isn't possible, but OTR didn't happen because a bunch of individual owners stepped in and bought those buildings to re-hab. Also Lynn and Liberty streets have established the neighborhood as a pass-through to get to the highway. Both streets, as well as Ezzard Charles, are in need of returning to pre 1950s scale. One last thing, the gentrification argument would be much more valid in the West End, and probably need to be handled with great care.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Autograph Collection Hotel (Anna Louise Inn)
The worst is that walled off "Park" on 5th. I think it's 5th/3rd's. What a horrible use of space.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Autograph Collection Hotel (Anna Louise Inn)
Whoever designed this seems to have not spent much time in urban areas. This just feels like the kind of thing that would go outside of an office park.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
Might be thinking of Northside.

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
I'm sure Kroger does a lot for the city but they frustrate the hell out of me left and right. Just come up with an urban store model that works, I'm sure that could be in the budget somewhere.

You're taking the argument to the extreme, no one said Versailles. And either way, these examples are everywhere, in wealthy neighborhoods as well. I mean Delta Flats couldn't be that cheap and it seems like something that was built pre-fab it's so boring and lifeless. Plus there's just a simple lack of quality apparent in these places, and it's just unfair to the community in my opinion. The Banks would be a great example of this. I just don't seem to understand why people are okay with it over and over again, when there are other cities building much more attractive architecture at similar rental prices. See Columbus.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Bay Horse Cafe (625 Main Street)
I think it has a hug part to do with those buildings there. Not immediately sure what the other side of the street looks like. But Wash Platform is great and gets a lot of patrons. It is indeed bizarre tho.

I just hope this doesn't look like Oakley Square or Delta Flats, the latter especially was a huge letdown.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Dennison Hotel Demolition
Yeah it's more understandable in context I would assume. I'll keep posted for the actual verbage.

Guess they do have the constitutional right to be pricks.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Dennison Hotel Demolition
Woooooow, that's evil! Is there any repercussions for stating that, if it is on record?

Yves Behar replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionPerhaps this will allow them to tear down Dabney Hall and do something to open up that space. It's kind of an unappealing area with the old Sander dining hall there. The space could be better designed for the public as well, for the basketball and baseball games.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Probably because even in it's current lack luster state, the chances of us actually replacing the empty lot (assuming it becomes demolished) will probably take decades knowing the rate of our city. Also, the infill that replaces it will probably look 10x worse, than the current product. The quality of infill Architecture, especially in our core, is god awful. Also a giant, colorful, art mural on one side of the wall, and a video screen that's time square like, with news updates/etc can really take those 2 blank walls and really make that building so much more inviting. I dunno, I've always heard people throw out the idea of a gian mural or video screen and I just think that would look tacky. It's also sort of the first thing that anyone would think of. The idea of cutting holes for windows would be more appealing to me.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Terrace Plaza should be torn down. Dunno why people glorify that structure, it was a shopping center, all the art has been removed. It would be like trying to preserve an abandoned Ikea, just why??

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
That is a massive space for a potential office building.

Newport, KY: Ovation
Yves Behar replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI've always wished Great American and Paul Brown were built facing the opposite direction, which would have made for a much more interesting view for TV.

Cincinnati: Camp Washington: Development and News
There is only a quarter mile of Colerain Ave that is north of the Monmouth bridge, which connects to Central Parkway. Are you suggesting an additional bridge north of Monmouth? No, I know that bridge is there, but it would have been interesting had they built that bridge coming off the end of Colerain, verging off of Central, instead of the Monmouth bridge. In an ideal world both would be great and connect Camp Washington even more. But yeah, if the connection were in line with Colerain it would possibly be a more appealing detour to downtown, or at least Camp Washington if that be your destination. Camp Washington is mainly accessible from Spring Grove, which is very much detached from the Colerain Avenue business district, the highway is what makes it detached on the eastern side.

Cincinnati: Camp Washington: Development and News
I love this photo. Any idea what the large building in the middle is with the pitched roof in the center? It resembles a school or post office. Also I always wondered if Camp Washington would benefit from a bridge connecting the north end of Colerain Ave to Central Parkway.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I went to something down there about 5 or 6 years ago. There was a Scion car show and some bands playing. It was an awesome use of the space, and should be even better now with all the amenities around. Hopefully some out of towners will come stay at the new hotel. Does anyone know when that will be completed?
