  1. I'll never understand the argument against height. I'm sure that many in the past would have loved to build up, but that was before elevators were invented so it was a bit prohibitive.
  2. Terrible project. I hope it doesn't come to fruition.
  3. That's a pretty ridiculous and unenforceable law. There are probably thousands of buildings in the city that already have boards, and good luck tracking down the owners for compliance. It's also just silly to think someone who is boarding up an old building is going to invest in something as expensive as polycarbonate when more often than not they use whats at hand. Doors, sheet metal, plastic, etc.
  4. I agree, I think the only justification would be if they had begun construction prior to VTICA.
  5. Is that Louisville in the picture?
  6. Yeah I would much prefer any other brand than Walgreen's. I haven't shopped at one since the whole Bishop's Mansion fiasco.
  7. I've never seen someone so displeased with reality than you. Your life must be awful.
  8. Actully here's a more accurate example. https://www.google.com/maps/place/South+Hills+Junction+T+Station+Access,+Pittsburgh,+PA+15211/@40.4209611,-80.00916,632m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x8834f71139cfbc43:0xf32f973034994c8!2sDormont,+PA!3b1!8m2!3d40.3959026!4d-80.0331092!3m4!1s0x8834f134ecb4a643:0x758f3e4055916692!8m2!3d40.4209611!4d-80.0069713
  9. This would be similar to the "T" in Pittsburgh that emerges from a tunnel in the Dormont neighborhood. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Dormont,+PA/@40.3909476,-80.0419569,443m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x8834f71139cfbc43:0xf32f973034994c8!8m2!3d40.3959026!4d-80.0331092
  10. This is currently occurring here as well where the new Kroger building on Central is being built around the historic 1 story bank building on the corner.
  11. So it appears they dropped the shorter option?
  12. Stop being so contentious, no one wants to argue your definition of historic, we all have our own opinions on what we like. Now you're just making a scene.
  13. Well I don't know anyone in their right mind that would buy a condo that looks like a Myrtle Beach Days Inn from 1995.
  14. Yes I was confused, though as it turns out the original Alumni House was in fact a Tudor. https://magazine.uc.edu/issues/0908/alumni1/jcr%3acontent/MainContent/textimage_0/image.img.jpg/1294859194106.jpg
  15. Totally ridiculous that they tore down historic buildings for this when the Glencoe hole is right next door with nothing in the way.
  16. And the buildings on Straight (aside from original Deaconess building) were/are not historically significant. The house on Fulton was nice but really not that special. Additionally, the whole stretch has just been a place where people throw trash as they speed through. I would much prefer an activated area than the complete lack of anything that exists there now.
  17. Kind of sad that UC had to remove that cool old Tudor house that was on campus. Was it the Alumni building or something for the Engineering Dept?
  18. Probably shouldn't open that can of worms...
  19. Sure if you want to base your judgement it solely on appearances, otherwise I would say that U Square has brought a lot of amenities to that area. Also recall it was a Hardee's and McDonald's for a long time, not just "Inn The Wood" or whatever else you may feel nostalgia towards.
  20. Quite the pessimistic view! Also what's wrong with Stratford Heights? As far as I have seen (inside and out) the build quality is fine. It's also student housing. Anyway it seems your sentiments are stemming from a strange fear of change more than anything that seems rational. Straight from Clifton to the top of the hill has been fairly dead for years, even when Deaconess was open. I think this project has fantastic potential to bring some life to that area.
  21. How many rooms would the hotel have?
