  1. MLK is a highway already. It ruined parts of Avondale and Camp Washington that will probably never return to their former charm. There was once a bridge at Eden, and a school on Hopple down the hill. Quite a tragedy that this road ever was built, but I know that its a common thoroughfare for thousands of people. They should have sunk it at Hopple and just made an express tunnel to the west side. But I guess I'm a dreamer.
  2. I agree, and something like below but playing off the original brick pattern would be great. In the daytime it would still feel monolithic, but it would also feel shiny and new and allow daylight to flow in. At night it would become transparent and allow light to come out of the interior and spill into the city. I have not seen many walls as ugly as this one. I personally love the new rendering.
  3. That project started with such potential too. I was so disappointed when they decided to just build McMansions along the river, what a waste. Perhaps they can cut losses and move forward with something a little better.
  4. Or the back of 525 Vine, which for some odd reason is a windowless wall for about 15 or more stories.
  5. Yeah that's a totally ridiculous request.
  6. I don't think there was anything about the brand that was a draw, so I really don't know why they would be that committed to it. In fact the name was in reference to the previous owner's (Terry of Terry's Turf Club) neon collection, which he took with him to his burger joint before Neon's really got popular. So who knows, but I doubt it would make a difference if they were Neon's or not.
  7. Yesterday's is still an incredibly lousy bar. It served teenagers in the 90s which is why I went there, but the days of every bar strip having a bar that reliably served under 21's is over. Agree, but they have cheap drink prices, perfect when your wallet is tight... Personally I think a neighborhood has really died when the bar like Yesterday's shuts down. Also what the hell is so bad about Yesterday's? They have a pool table, patio, free popcorn, TVs, darts.... I guess if you want fancy drinks and kitsch wall decor then maybe it's not for you. But it beats Crowley's for certain. Ever since I went to Crowley's and the bartenders and a few patrons all attributed the neighborhood demise on Pavilion attracting Black people, I decided never to go back.
  8. The first one is under contract. I assume that they'll list the second one after the first one closes. He paid under $30k total for both lots, so he's going to be pocketing at least $100k off each house, and likely north of $200k. So we have a lot of people who have been yapping day-in-and-out for 15-20 years on Twitter and on forums like this about architecture, city planning, college design program rankings, etc., and then some guy comes along with no formal training, totally understands the game, and makes big money while commentators are out there whining about their student loans and high housing prices in Portland or wherever. Yes, two very reasonable things to complain about actually. But kudos to this guy regardless. And as far as the location, I highly doubt that will be a gravel parking lot forever.
  9. Probably about as cool as Hanes.
  10. Nah, too expensive for that crowd. Hopefully the Hipsters find Lower Price Hill and help it to improve a bit.
  11. Just my opinion but I feel like there is way too much street level residential on Walnut.
  12. Packed with 19 year olds.
  13. That's my favorite part of town!
  14. So is this where that Hannaford building was torn down?
  15. Is the Gregory Family the property owners? If so that is immensely frustrating.
  16. We're ripe for an urban style Applebees.
  17. Where will this abomination be?
  18. No one knows or cares about Blink outside of the region. Its a pretty awesome thing you've got, but doubt anyone even from Indy would know about it ;). Even when Cincy does stuff well it undersells itself. But they will care about an abandoned theatre and subway with a water main in it? Not sure what you expect to be done with these places to make them tourist attractions. Also if you do some research on the Emery you'll know that it has more to do with UC and ownership issues and a lot of people aware of its history want it to be saved. We also celebrate a lot of our history here, so I'm not sure what you mean by that statement. Plus it's awfully bold of you to act as if you understand every outsiders perspective of our city. On top of that you're almost always being a turd on here.
  19. Anyone else find this image a little unsettling? https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/05/17/peek-inside-the-newest-luxury-condos-in-downtown.html#g/434950/11
  20. WLW and Cincinnati culture overexpose college basketball since important teams are located in the city, Cincinnati is close to Indiana and Kentucky and because Republicans like it. It's not overexposed if people here are invested in it.
  21. Honestly the neighborhood really needs more small investment and street level businesses. There's really nothing there to attract anyone from any other neighborhood to visit except for the chili parlor and sign museum. What it comes down to is that the neighborhood just isn't a very livable place. There's a blend of industrial mixed with vacant lots and junk lots all over the place that make it an unappealing place to live. It's nestled between a highway and a train yard. Hopple street is also basically a highway, and in my opinion changed the area from a neighborhood to an off ramp pit stop and cross town fly through. People easily do 60+ at the intersection with Colerain. Oh and the only park in the neighborhood is in front of a prison.... As much as I was excited for Crosley to be rehabbed, I don't think that it would have done much for the area as a whole. It would be like Machine Flats, where the residents don't hang around in the area and would get in their cars to go elsewhere for shopping/ leisure/ entertainment. There needs to be something done about the violence, drug dealing, and prostitution, as well as the lack of amenities. And even though its a total pipe dream, Hopple needs a road diet.
  22. These articles come out about every other year, but that creek is still pretty dumpy.
  23. I have a feeling it was once a common way to light streets. There's an image of some from my hometown on the homepage of this website. http://www.hiddenmarietta.com/
