Cincinnati: Random Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionYeah this is exciting. It really might work for the retail stuff on the ground floor with the bicycle traffic and people living there. It will be really interesting to see what happens, and is really cool they will be able to preserve the buildings. Seeing those pictures makes me wish they could have been a part of the Oakley Station redevelopment. Those buildings looked a lot like these, and similar uses. It would have been cool to see those preserved and reused in this same way. Hopefully this project is just another in a long line of developments by this company, because I'm sure there are plenty of old factory and warehouse buildings around that can be reused in this same way.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
You have got to be kidding me! Yes the bike paths are a good thing, but that doesn't warrant switching all of the funding. Both types of bike infrastructure need to be prioritized, not one or the other.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Holiday Inn
I thought the little part about the possibility of if a garage is not built, then the developer can ask for an exception to the required parking minimums was interesting. What if the city didn't build a new garage at all, but just made a certain number of street spots or other garage spots available for the hotel? I'm gonna guess that would save a lot of money if possible. Also it would be a good example of how the new form-based code zoning can work.

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2014/05/15/cincinnati-city-council-might-boost-port-authority.html?page=2 It's interesting that he ran for office talking about wanting to help the "neighborhoods", but then cut the parking project, which was going to fund all of that help from the Port to the neighborhoods. Now he is not making it a priority to help fund the Port in any way really. How is that helping the neighborhoods?

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
Oh i see, I interpreted that differently I guess, I'm not really very familiar with what the government terms mean outside of EIS statements.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
can somebody move the stuff about flooding and eminent domain? I thought this article today was interesting, I was not aware that there is a federal mandate to develop Wasson as rail as well, any other thoughts or info on that?

Sorry if I was wrong.

Cincinnati: Camp Washington: Development and News
Sweet! Same developers as the American Can building right? Makes sense for them to handle it.

Cincinnati: Findlay Market
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentCan't wait! Love Eli's and excited about market expanding. Making the market a more all hours destination will do a lot for feeling of safety for people who might not go otherwise, as well as be huge for convenience.

Cincinnati: Oakley: Oakley Station
Very much agree. Akin to those ominous opening scenes in "Independence Day," Kroger finally hovers over Oakley Station with its biggest store locally and second largest store nationally. And, as was mentioned, the shakeup/fallout amongst nearby big-box food retailers may prove catastrophic. (and how this new Marketplace store will affect either Kroger at Hyde Park or Surrey Square is anyone's guess) Nevertheless, bring it on. As for myself--if only out of curiosity--I hope to be one of the first shoppers through the doors! :-D yeah this is probably true...if so hopefully they knock them down quickly and move on to redevelop instead of just letting them sit there for forever...it would be great to keep upping the density in this area, which even though oakley station will be a lot of big boxes, at least the apartments and office buildings add more density...more of this please!

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
I agree with you on this. Of course any place the transit is tunneled, it would be expensive, but that solves the space issue. I like your idea of having it run along Wasson in-street. I have thought in the past that it would make sense to tunnel under the ROW through there for space issues and to reduce traffic crossings with Paxton, Edwards, etc. That would be really expensive though. But then also running in-street south towards downtown where there is no ROW makes a lot of sense.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
climberguy714 replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot sure what it will take to make sustainable, but I'm very happy that we're on our way. The momentum already going, paired with the streetcar and reduction/elimination of parking minimums are all coming together nicely to help.

Forest Park: Forest Fair Mall / Cincinnati Mills Redevelopment
Totally agree. Favorite "store" in Eastgate is the Lunar Golf! When my family discovered that we were floored.

Cincinnati: Clifton: Development and News
Instead of an expensive pedestrian bridge, we should make MLK into a complete street that serves pedestrians, not just cars, and is easier to cross. Totally agree with that, people (including me) fly down that street all the time. Traffic calming to make it more pedestrian friendly would probably help alot. There are already a lot of pedestrians around there, but this would make them feel safer and probably help to increase number of pedestrians.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Well this story is pretty abysmal in terms of showing how he feels about rail in general. I love how they fact checked him on his statements about rail not being as popular as buses in NYC. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2014/03/regional-rail-system-in-cincinnati-cranley-says.html

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
I'm starting to wonder if Conrinthian is ever going to build their new church. That lot has been sitting there at least 4-5 years now. I'm kinda guessing there wouldn't be room for this and their planned church though, because 350,000sq ft is pretty big, especially including parking for up to 1000 people. Hoping it does end up there though, just so something can finally get going there.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI couldn't remember if there is a thread for Eden Park or not, but didn't see one. Saw an update on this project: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2014/03/cool-places-get-a-sneak-peek-of-the-eden-park.html I was already excited about this project a lot. Seeing the pics of the stained glass windows and mock ups of how it will look make me even more excited. I can guarantee that place is gonna be swamped for Balluminaria, and during the butterfly shows every year.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
Totally Agree.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
Good point. I forgot that there really isnt that much traffic on I-71 compared to I-75.
-
Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
I've thought about that before, why didn't they do that when 471 was built? I don't know enough about the history, or about the details involved to really give any advice on that kind of a project, but splitting 71 off from the merge with 75 makes sense to me.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
I was glad to read that at least one of the Kentucky government officials acknowledges that the bridge replacement is not really needed in the first place. Hopefully the project stalls and is left by the wayside, and we can figure out how to fund transit in order to deal with traffic instead of following the traditional solution of adding more lanes. 2 billion dollars can definitely be better spent elsewhere.

Liberty Township: Liberty Center
That's the same thing I thought, when I read it. All of a sudden we'll have 2 AC hotels? Guess it is continued confidence in our resurgence.

Cincinnati: Downtown: W&S Condominium Project (3rd & Broadway)
I was thinking the same thing after I saw that article...

Norwood: Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionYeah it has been up for awhile, probably 2-3 months at least. The building is starting to get really tall. It's impressive looking from the highway as you are driving by. I know a lot of people are not happy with this project, but I really think that compared to the prior phases of Rookwood, this phase is way more dense and exciting.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
Pretty excited about the carousel. Here's an update: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2014/03/heres-how-cincinnati-s-riverfront-carousel-will-be.html
