Cincinnati: Downtown: Fourth & Race (Pogue Garage) Redevelopment
This is starting to look like a poker game, where Cranley is trying to bluff to get them all in.

That is a good idea. Didn't remember that under the current plan it would have to go south to go north. Cutting that much construction cost too is huge!

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fourth & Race (Pogue Garage) Redevelopment
Yeah, really cool that they are willing to help out on it. I'm guessing they're getting a little tired of waiting on starting this. Really lucky they're willing to work with us, instead of just dropping it instead.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
climberguy714 replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI know what you mean. Lavo was the first OTR restaurant me and my fiance went to right when all of the momentum on Vine was starting to pick up. We loved it, but haven't taken the chance to go back for almost 3 yrs now.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
No, but this article talked about it some. http://m.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2014/02/will-oasis-line-hours-be-extended.html Some good things, but some worries too. Point made about needing extended hours could maybe help with financial feasability or payback. I don't know how economic development was supposed to be achieved if the whole point is to move people from milford to downtown in rush hours, but no other time or flexibility of back and forth travel. I'm appalled that the oki director feels oasis is more important than the streetcar, that there is basically no pursuit of 71 or 75 lines, and that he has no idea how to pay for any of it. I especially don't understand that part, isn't that his job to figure out those kinds of things? Happy that they want to work on extending streetcar though.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Yeah that's so messed up. They're not thinking about how making downtown better in general will help elevate the value of their properties as well. The more people want to be downtown, the more demand there is, thus higher profit right?

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionLooks like good news. I hope it goes well so they can secure more funding. I think the port being able to be effective will help equalize things and continue to spread development and redevelopment throughout the county. I think this will help people's concerns with the CBD getting "too much" attention, and hopefully cool some of the emotional fires that flare up every once in awhile on that subject. That way as things to continue to progress, hopefully people can get out of the way of that progress so it can be more effective.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhen I saw this news that's what I thought, though I didn't know its abandoned. I drive by it every day and always think its weird to have a downtownish building right across the street from a subdivision. Considering the size of their current HQ this is gonna be something huge. Any idea of the sq ftage of the new paycor for comparrison?

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
Basically straight propoganda focusing on travel times. Doesn't address the very low ridership rates projected and how that will help congestion. Shows pics of buses and trains even though what their plan to reduce congestion realy is is a highway. Also no projection on how project will mitigate or reduce travel times.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Exactly... if dinner's taking longer than expected, you can just add more time to the meter after you get an alert saying "5 minutes remaining". No need to rush out to refill the meter, which is especially nice if you've parked far away or it's freezing cold outside. I'm thinking the idea of hooking into a network would help enforcement as well. I'm not sure how that works, but I assume that you would be able to see the meters on the network and check for unpaids etc. Does anyone have more knowledge of this?
-
Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Yeah I'm really surprised he thinks he can get this through when there really not much difference from the plan he campaigned against. This plan is definitely less fiscally responsible than the prior one. The primary flaw with keeping control of the system means keeping the burden of upkeep right?

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Thanks, that was a really good example. It definitely shows how it can transfer from street to running in the median to a subway, which is what we've been talking about with it possibly transferring from streetcar tracks to central parkway to the old subway tunnels. I think this would be really cool, it would offer the flexibility we need, plus I'm sure it cuts a lot of the cost from doing old-school straight subways and boring miles and miles of tunnels.

Very good article, makes me feel hopeful for the city's future.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
I think this is great news. I have a degree in Environmental Policy and am a hippie at heart. It is neat to see big companies starting to buy into alternative energy means. Also I'm floored that its happening in Cincinnati. Hopefully this will further the image of us having a green, forward thinking, sustainable city.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Yeah, good points. I hope that all of us talking about this more as well as the few places where it has been in the media spur more talk and actual professional work on it soon.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
I think for sure one should be tunnel through to UC, then anyof the other 3. With a branch going west along 74 & 75 and then another along 71 through UC it would almost recreate the original rapid transit loop that the subway was planned to be. I like the idea of finishing what we started, even if it is 100 years later.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
Yeah that was a good one. I forgot about the upcoming transit summit, hope that goes well and starts sparking more interest.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
Agreed. Even though they might not be "important", a lot of those areas are ready or near ready for redevelopment, which would cause large gains in terms of increased tax revenue if these areas were developed with TOD in mind. Plus all of those areas are more dense than Newtown or Milford, leading to more potential ridership which equals more $.
-
Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
Really good point! Following the line on the map, it goes through some really interesting spots. Some examples are it crosses over Losantiville a couple of blocks away from Reading and Seymour, where all the redevelopment is planned and where a lot of density already exists in small apartment buildings in Bond Hill and Golf Manor. It also crosses through parts of Hyde Park and Oakley near Madisonville and follows along next to part of Red Bank. If the future commuter/light rail went up along this ROW, it could potentially really increase the ridership and effectiveness of the line because it would basically hit or be close to Madisonville, Hyde Park, Oakley, Norwood, Pleasant Ridge, Golf Manor, Bond Hill, Rose Lawn and Reading. Too bad this is not in the plan at all.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I would absolutely love that, it is my dream to be able to just get on a train and be downtown in like 10-15 min. No worry about parking or anything.
