Cincinnati: Random Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionGood for the County on saving money, but really really hope the board of elections does not move there too. There has got to be some other County office or service that can move there instead.

Norwood: Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionYeah it will definitely be good for Norwood. I think it's interesting how alot of the area around 71 and Norwood Lateral is being developed and redeveloped all of a sudden. I also live in the area and I think it's a good thing.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
I've seen that map before, its a good one. I wonder why it's getting into the news now though, when his project has been around at least 2-3 yrs.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Yeah that rendering is really nice, definitely gives you the idea of the effect it will have. It will definitely increase the density and urban feel of the banks.

Yeah I think that makes sense.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
I see. That's pretty cool, and smart. See when you guys were talking about those extensions earlier in the topic, I thought you were just talking about extending the street car routes. When I think of light rail lines, I keep thinking that they would have to go underneath downtown to make use of the old subway tunnels. I forgot you said the streetcar tracks can take light rail trains as well. So then you could use that and then they can move into their own ROW if we wanted as it got out of the CBD. Still how long would it take for planning/finding funding for these 2 corridors and is there anything we can do now to try to start pushing it along? Or do we have to wait and see how the streetcar goes for a few years first?

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Thanks for the background on that. My knowledge of Metromoves was mostly limited to Wikipedia and a couple other sources I found awhile back. I agree that having CVG as a destination on a route doesn't make sense anymore beyond getting people who work there to their jobs. Considering what you said about how much research was done on each line, and how most of it focused on I-75, how long do you think it would be before we could get another study like this that builds off of Metromoves on the table if something were to get started? I really want light rail and or subways here one day, but am I just dreaming that it could happen in the next 10 yrs?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I absolutely agree! Mike Brown can shove it! A sports team has absolutely no place in urban design and development!!!!!!!!!!!! Also I agree that the banks having 20 story buildings is not a bad thing. That is really not that tall, and because of the separation of fort washington way, this will not block the views of the skyscrapers on 3rd, or their view of the river/stadiums.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
Thought this was pretty informative on what is going on with cincy bike share. Hope they come up with funding quickly. http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/cincy-bike-share-planners-still-need-funds-to-launch-what-they-say-will-be-a-boon-to-getting-around

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
looks good, excited to see how tall it will look when done, and how the design of the outside turns out looking too. haven't been on that side of downtown in awhile.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
so last week I posed the question about whatever happened to the city renaming Red Bank Road Expressway to Dunbar Parkway in an effort to use the parkway designation to block it becoming a full blown highway. Didn't seem to get a response on it, so I did some digging. Here is the last mention of it I could find in the news in 2011 http://www.wcpo.com/web/wcpo/news/local-news/hamilton-county/cincinnati/madisonville/hearing-on-future-of-red-bank-corridor-has-competing-visions Does anyone know what happened to this, and if it really was going to be able to block the state from turning it into a highway?

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
Good points. That's why really I think we should focus on the metro plus routes, as well as starting to do light rail within the city and Hamilton county. We should establish a plan in general, and start as quick as we can on the beginning spurs of the I-71, I-75, and Wasson Way light rail. This way we can start seeing the benefits of improved transit within 5-10 yrs, instead of waiting for all the counties to O.K. a bigger, more sprawling system. I agree with you Jake, that the Oasis line should be scrapped, or at least shorten it so it stops around Delta, or maybe at the next stop up by Red Bank. I wonder why there has been so much hype around this project though since it isn't funded.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
http://citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-5412-streetcar_supporters_oppose_oasis_rail_line.html Thought this was a pretty good article. Here's a question I'm not aware of the answer of. According to the plan so far, how much of this would be city responsibility and how much county? I really agree with the people quoted in the article, that we need to work on a metromoves type plan again, but am curious on how the costs will be split between city/county.

Cincinnati: Procter & Gamble
Has anyone ever wondered what it would be like if P&G decided to build a new headquarters building? They could do two towers like they have now, just with a more modern design, or build a huge tower higher than the Great American building. Sometimes when I drive by their headquarters I wonder how many condos you could make out of those two buildings. I'm sure it would be something ridiculous. How old is their headquarters? I really have no idea.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2014/01/08/how-many-lanes-does-odot-plan-to-add.html Looks like they are trying to compromise on the Red Bank portion of the corridor project. I really don't think Red Bank Expressway needs to be widened, but as a resident of the area, I like the portions about connecting Duck Creek through to Madison, extending Old Red Bank, and the new bridges. I'm wondering, what ever happened to the city renaming Red Bank and changing it to a boulevard, which was supposed to block the state from being able to turn it into a highway?

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
Yeah I highly doubt it. I can't see the streetcar getting cancelled, but this getting done in 18 months. I still personally am completely against this project. Put rapid transit where people are, not through a bunch of land that isn't that developed and farther out suburbs. I still cannot believe that with the ridership projections for this that anyone could think that this is worth investing in while the streetcar is not. Wasson Way is the way to go. :yap:

Dayton, KY: Manhattan Harbour
Will be good for core region adding that many new units and homes. Part of my fiance's family is from Dayton KY, and I'm a little curious what the people who live there feel about this project. That area is more lower middle class from my knowledge, and I can see them having issues with crazy expensive new houses and buildings in their neighborhood. We'll see how that works out. It will be interesting to see this progress, especially since you can see this area from the lookout in Eden Park. The view will be forever different.

I like to see someone laying out the cold hard facts. You can't debate with the feds. It's either yes or no, "ain't nobody got time for that".

Cincinnati: Downtown: W&S Condominium Project (3rd & Broadway)
Hey, who knows. I'm definitely curious what it could all be about. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. :)

Cincinnati: Downtown: W&S Condominium Project (3rd & Broadway)
Yeah I don't know if that really will end up having anything to do with the east side of downtown, but it's interesting anyway. If they draw more companies here and sell off that land slowly it could create more density around the airport, which could really help it out in the long run. That would also solidify a reason to build light rail out to the airport to connect it and whatever they are looking to develop to the rest of the city.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The truth is that if the delays had not been caused by people such as COAST and Cranley, then the project would be more close to the original budget and time schedule. The dismisal of what is currently going on as political theater is the pot calling the kettle black. This is an attempt to use logic and reason to sway the oppinions of smart, respectable elected officials into making the correct decision based on numbers instead of opinion and political rhetoric.

Rethinking Transport in the USA
This would be interesting, because I foresee if this went into effect and states are solely responsible for all road and transit funding, the entire interstate system will fall apart within 50 years, if not quicker. No city or state has that kind of money to repave all those miles and miles of roads as often as is needed. I'm not saying that is a bad thing either. There are lots of people who want the interstates to be gone, especially when they cut through urban areas. Hopefully this would be the case, and market forces would make money go to transit, which I believe is far more efficient. It will be really interesting to see how this plays out.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
climberguy714 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt will be really cool to see that many more people downtown in just a year or two. It will also be interesting to see if politics change as more people move down there and otr. Politicians might have to cater more to that crowd with the constituency growing there. cough cough streetcar
