Cincinnati: West End: City West
I want to give this thread a little bump. I will be finishing up school in the next year, can't believe how fast 5 years can pass! I hope to be working downtown and looking at different options. I am looking at purchasing a home in City West because I like the thought of being close to downtown and having a brand new, energy efficient home. I know that the METRO runs right through the neighborhood, huge plus. But, how is the neighborhood coming along? Do neighbors walk and talk to each other? How is safety? Could I sit in front of my house without problems at 9 p.m.? I really like the neighborhood because for the money, its the best thing near downtown, but I don't want to move in and feel I made a mistake. I would love to get involved in a community that is need of change and leadership, and between OTR and West End, it looks like this is more of an option. Also, any news on CityLink, as this could be a deal breaker for a home owner.

Norwood: Development and News
cincybearcat replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionBefore any of this goes in, I hope Norwood/Cincinnati work together to fix the interchange/traffic problems exist around all of this. If the "car" lifestyle is going to feed this development, make the developer pay to impove the road. When the Rookwood and other development was being proposed, the roads should have be repaved and upgraded with better technology to handle the increase. I would think a new north I-71 entrance ramp with connector roads between the ramps would work much better than the current situtation. Something like: Where the yellow is new or widened road.

CVG: Delta and Comair news
Delta shifts flights at CVG By Alexander Coolidge [email protected] Delta Air Lines said today it will close its operations at Concourse C at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in January. The shift concentrates Delta’s local departures and arrivals into concourses A and B after years of cuts in the number of flights out of the Cincinnati airport. While the change is emblematic of Delta’s struggles to contain costs as jet fuel remains sky-high, the carrier noted it will end inconvenient shuttle rides by bus between Concourses B and C. Delta disclosed this summer it would cut CVG’s fall schedule by about a quarter from fall 2007 to combat fuel prices that have doubled in the last year. Delta officials said the switch won’t affect local Delta jobs. Comair officials said the change would have minimal impact on its jobs. Don Bornhorst, senior vice president of Delta Connection, which coordinates its regional feeder carriers including Erlanger-based Comair, said Delta remained committed to the local hub. Still, fuel costs have forced the carrier to eliminate unprofitable flights. More at http://www.enquirer.com

This will be fun to see how bad this all comes together.

When did Ben & Jerry's close? I am surprised it didn't last.

Cincinnati: Interstate 75
Like I've said in the past, the whole Mill Creek Expressway/Thru-The-Valley projects are basically safety improvements, not capacity improvements. 2020! WOW, by the time this is done, we could have a light rail project completed. I hope they plan ahead (cough, Paddock Road overpass, cough) and make it possible to install elevated private HOT lanes and/or light rail. By 2020, we could have a private company come in and build some toll lanes and people would use them bc I-75 will be a complete mess. Even today the highway is crowded almost all day, not just during rush. When I am done with school, guess who isn't living near 75, this guy.

Cincinnati: Columbia Tusculum and some skyline shots
In #6, the builders had to put in quite an effort to make those houses look so bad!

Cincinnati's Pill Hill
Who uses the old Bethesda hospital buildings next to I-71? It is unbelievable that the Health Alliance wanted to close Christ and move all their doctors to the new hospital in West Chester. Damn non for profits!

German solar company plans HQ in Cleveland
The solar industry in Germany has gone crazy, the government has raised rates of all other power and made solar the cheapest. They have solar panels on the side of the highways there. This is very good for Cleveland, Ohio and the U.S.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: School for the Creative & Performing Arts
From the updated article, it said another crane was constructing the new tower crane, with the blue tower in the background. The crane was lifting the horizontal piece, then failed and dropped it. How tall is the new school supposed to be?

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills - Humana Center & SpringHill Suites
Speaking of the Milacron Building, the front entrance driveway is starting to crack from the ground dropping. With that wall being constructed so close to the next building, they will need to watch that. I believe the Milacron Building goes down pretty deep with its underground parking, so the building shouldn't collapse.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati News & Info
I wasn't even talking about parties, but the amount of activities run by the Greek community. 90% of student groups on campus are run by Greeks, because unlike a lot of individuals, we actually care about the community and the university. UC is still in a transition, and sometimes I wish I did go to more of a classic college and not one dominated by commuters. I commuted last fall quarter and I will never do it again. Never being down there when random stuff happened and the constant fear of an underage DUI sucked!

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati News & Info
David, what floor did you live on at Daniels? Did you live there fall 05 to spring 06? And I agree, dorm life for freshman year was awesome, but way too expensive. "Well...all the douchebags are living in frats, listening to Dave Matthews and spraying Axe somewhere." Wow, without the Greek community, UC would be nothing. While fraternities are not for everyone, we don't get off by coming down on other people. Seems like those not in frats always having something bad to say about them. Where do you get all this extensive knowledge, from their parties? The life I have in a frat is totally different from when we have parties.

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
Megabus.com is dropping service to Louisville and adding another stop to Cincinnati! It must be doing quite well. From Cincinnati, you can go to Chicago, Indy and CBus.

A Little Bit of Riverfest
I also took the 17 down from Clifton and boy was it packed! It was awesome seeing so many people taking the bus. We got off before Gov Square, but afterwards, it was a total mess. People(no offense, but they were Indian) were going through the back door without paying, which caused more chaos as Metro had to kick people off the bus. So we just waited 45 minutes at Fountain Square and then took the bus back up.

Metro Cincinnati: Road & Highway News
Monte, its the government, you should expect it to be done in the dumbest way possible. I think the interchange is slated to be done after the I-75 widening, so 2015+!

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
As far as right now, I think a toll booth in Covington should be built. This would effectively make trucks use either I-471 or I-275. It would also raise money for a new bridge. The toll would only be for going north and would require new access ramps to be built for Covington. This would also allow for a fourth northbound lane on the bridge as that stupid ramp from Covington makes the right most lane currently. Of course this would cause more delay, esp in the morning, electric toll lanes could be built along with a HOV bypass(free!) such as San Fran has for the Bay Bridge.

beavercreeke: thee greene
Someone's about to get beat with a wiffle ball bat. I wanted to come across that The Greene was not needed and I would perfer development downtown. Instead we get a waste of material in Beavercreek and a dying downtown Dayton.

Butler County: Development and News
Just to let everyone know, I think the Village at the Streets of West Chester has died. Ryan Homes pulled their sales trailer last year and all the roads are blocked with barriers. Too bad as this would've been better than what is currently being built in the metro. Also, with IKEA just down the street, I would think another developer would come in.

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
Well they are putting up 50 ft poles to hold up what will be a huge IKEA sign. The area is a big mess with Cin-Day closed and all the road work on Mulhauser and UC Blvd. Good thing roads are being upgraded or it would be impossible to get to this place. I wish they would've bought the land north of the Streets of West Chester, would be easier to get to.

beavercreeke: thee greene
Drove through this place two weekends ago. Then I jumped on 35 to downtown Dayton. Both are pathetic.

Cincinnati Climate
HAHA! Harsh Winter? I absolutely love that we may get 1-2 major snow storms a year. Being from the upper midwest (Twin Cities) where it got to -40 at night (not wind chill BTW), I will take a Cincy winter anyday.

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Projects & News
What a useless expressway in my opinion. What is the point of bypassing I-70? We do need to get smarter around the state as far as founding of anything. As far as freeways, we should upgrade the current system for safety only (i.e. adding shoulder room, redesign some interchanges) otherwise push forward with smart transportation like rail and expanded transit.
