excellent. My husband and I fundraise every year for Tender Mercies every year at our holiday party, and stuff like this is why.

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
northsider replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionthis house is literally next door to us, and it sold for $400K exactly. I did a walk-through during an open house. It probably sold for the amount that it did because a surprising amount of the original house's wood trim, including glassed in pocket doors, were still intact and in great shape. It's a BIG house with all three floors and it's in great shape now, and the street is really nice and three short blocks away from the Hamilton Ave business district. The real gag is that the redevelopment company bought it for $135K when it was in HORRIBLE shape and narrowly escaped being condemned a few years back, and meanwhile we bought our place for $170K in 2009. what you're seeing in Northside is a hollowing out of the decent starter home market. most houses available seem to be sub 70K places in bad enough shape that they don't show the interior in real estate listings OR places that have been freshly renovated for over 200K.

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
northsider replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionMy friend bought this place! He's moving from Chicago, really wanted to be in Northside, and tbh when we took a look with a realtor at all the stuff that was on the market currently, it was by far and away the best deal. We saw places asking for more and giving a LOT less space with a lot of awkward remodeling decisions.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 1010 On The Rhine / Downtown Kroger
Same! at this point they're starting to work on putting together stuff to pour the fifth floor, I think.

Pretty terrific to see them working every weekday on this site. right now it's all foundation prep.

Wishful thinking IMO A 1,500 SF one-story corner building, built in 1941? It was a mistake when it was built and is not worth saving IMO. I work for Kroger, so I'm willing to bet I know more about our store planning process than you. *shrug* We are both hoping for the same thing.

I'd think that this will be even more influenced by the layouts of Chicago's Marianos stores, which Kroger now owns. The layout of Corryville was determined when they put the plans together like 2-3 years ago, so Kroger hadn't yet absorbed lessons from Marianos. This is being designed in a post-Marianos ownership landscape. As for why they don't get that building at Main and Central, that building is historic and charming and lots of people (including me) would raise a hue and cry if it were demolished.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 1010 On The Rhine / Downtown Kroger
wow, this is going to be almost two-thirds as high as the existing Kroger building. It's going to have even more of an impact than I initially realized. Hopefully this spurs someone else to buy the big-ass parking lot on Walnut between Court and 9th and build something there. "Live next door to a nice grocery store *and* a streetcar stop while being only a few blocks away from OTR *and* Fountain Square" is a helluva selling point.

I tend to agree more with Brutus here - this project is a really important inflection point for the basin, and it's worth doing, even if there are details to the deal that we don't like. However, I think pointing out the bad things about the deal is important too because I certainly don't want to see these things repeated in future deals! This is a unique situation and needs to be treated as such.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
I'm just stoked AF. it will be one block away from two streetcar stops. It will get rid of that giant awful parking lot by the County building, filling in one of the worst gaps in the northern end of downtown. It's going to add a ton of energy and traffic to Court Street. It's a taller building than I thought we'd get for this part of town. It's going to drive more daily usage of the streetcar. Ahhhh so good. the only bad thing is that it will take until 2019 for construction to be complete.

GUYS IT'S HAPPENING Kroger is building a downtown store at Court and Walnut. It will be in the base of a 18 story mixed-use development that will also include a 555 space parking garage, 139 apartments, and a bar and food hall on the second floor. here's the PR release they sent us:

Northside and Clifton. I think there's one in Pleasant Ridge too.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Blonde (Eighth & Main)
Seems like the right call to me. the Donato's building isn't really notable in any way and it sounds like renovation of it to modern standards is p. much impossible.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Blonde (Eighth & Main)
It is? I mean, there's no request for demolition, but I'm not seeing it in any of the renderings in the packet - the north tower has that space in the renderings.

I'm a Kroger corporate employee. My boss just told me that Kroger has bought the big surface lot at Central and Walnut. When I asked her if it was a secret, she said it'd been posted to Facebook. So... you heard it here first?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
I guess their target market is consumers who do zero online research about hotels before booking?

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
that'd make getting the supply trucks in even more difficult, and they'd need to step up deliveries if they had a bigger store. No, I think the Walnut and Central route is the way to go, if they decide to do something. I'd imagine it will be a little bit - Kroger is now testing a new store concept in Gig Harbor, WA called Main & Vine, plus they're going to be studying their new acquisition of Mariano's.

Cincinnati: Avondale: Development and News
Those really aren't bad at all! Except for the strip on the side where the siding switches from forest green to beige. It's like modern architects can't help themselves. Must. Include. Meaningless. Color/Material Chaaaaaanges

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionYou could still do that - thebillshark seems to be indicating that their idea is that development would be on the two half-block parcels, so you could still leave Pleasant in the mix. That being said, who crosses the street as a pedestrian at Pleasant now? I certainly wouldn't. Dangerous! and they're not going to start adding lights for all of the minor street intersections on Liberty.

P. sure that Seelbach has the worst relationship with Cranley of anyone on Council.

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
The "best" part is that when doing the veto, he claimed that voters turning down Issue 22 proved that "voters don't want their property taxes increased". No, we didn't like permanent tax increases with little accountability. He is an infuriating man, and I can't wait for Yvette Simpson to run against him.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentMy understanding is that Lisa is staying on as Exec Chef for Melt and P&P. Current locations will remain, but look to see more Melt locations eventually open and some food options come to Wellman bars. Plus now they can do integrated event stuff where you can get catering AND bar service.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
There you go folks. I don't know if you've ever been in a Mariano's in Chicago, but they are exactly the format of store that many of you people have been begging for - highly urban high-end grocery stores. And that's the #1 reason why Kroger wants this merger. Just like Kroger's been learning from previous merger Harris-Teeter about improving customer service, Kroger wants to learn from Mariano's about doing truly urban format grocery stores. (The #2 reason Kroger wants this merger is that it gets Kroger into new areas.)

northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionyup! Santos is aiming for a Spring 2016 opening of Please in OTR. He's being slightly cagey about where, exactly, the restaurant will be in the neighborhood. I'm super excited, I've been eating at his pop-up for years. He's a great dude and his food is phenomenal. in the meantime, you can follow him on Instagram @pleasecinci.
