Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
right, and most of those are nondiverse states that practically no one lives in - the population of the actual city of Cincinnati is half of the total population of Wyoming, for example. The city needs to keep improving on its violent crime rate, but let's compare apples to apples here.

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
As Upton Sinclair said, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his job depends on not understanding it."

Somehow I did. That makes sense, then.

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
Baffling. If you're supporting, say, Yvette Simpson, why would you support Charlie Winburn, her polar opposite with regards to policy? Or if you're supporting Simpson and Seelbach, why would you not also support Quinlivan, since they tend to vote together?

Cincinnati - A Welcoming City?
I grew up in West Chester and went to Miami U. for college, but when I moved back to Cincy I only had three childhood friends still in the area. While I'm still really close with one of them and see the other two once in a blue moon, the friendship network I built up really had more to do with my hobbies and interests. My general experience is that it's pretty easy to meet new people in Cincinnati if you have passions you're interested in pursuing, such as food, design, activism, cycling, art, et cetera. Maybe things are different in other parts of Cincinnati but we've found Northside in particular to be really friendly, belying the stereotype of the snobby hipster.

Cincinnati: Interstate 75
I'm still not getting the need for Hopple to pass over Central Parkway. I mean, the way Hopple is currently angled in its approach to Central isn't acceptable, but making it an overpass seems like overkill and will definitely change the feeling of that portion of Central Parkway and make it feel even less pedestrian-friendly. what problems does this solve?

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
True, but if this was a survey, it'd be weighted to be representative of the populace that will actually be voting in November. The electorate for a one-position primary where the top two votegetters are a foregone conclusion may differ significantly from the electorate for a November city election. I'm willing to bet that voters in this primary are whiter and richer than the November election. that being said, definitely donate to the Qualls campaign and consider volunteering. We can't lose this one.

blargh. on the other hand, my guess is that neither campaign threw any real resources into the primary, so again, drawing conclusions from this is a fool's errand.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionAlso, the trees that are still on Race north of 14th make it feel extremely pleasant. Pretty much all of Race between 14th and 15th (except for the church) are either renovated or in the process of being renovated at this point, so having a Mercer commons-style development will build on the success that's already occurring. Man, if they can do something great with the church, I'll be super excited.

northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis is one of the first OTR buildings that I can think of that's being renovated and actually had people living in it before the renovation started.

Cincinnati: State of Downtown
It's more like Tupperware parties, where one lady has her friends come over and invites a PR sales person. It turns out that if you make them feel comfortable, middle-aged suburban women will totally buy all sorts of sex toys.

northsider replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & Entertainmentyeah, the fact that we have TWO comic conventions now, two weeks apart, is a little...strange? Makes you wonder what the story is there.

northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionthey've been in their Saengerhalle development which is just north of Washington Park for a year or two. They have a fair amount of space already, but they're not kidding about being cramped - if you walk by you can look in the windows and see people's desks right on top of each other.

Cincinnati's West End - extraordinary & endangered
Northside's likely to stay an economically mixed neighborhood - the housing stock is really all over the map from large three story foursquare houses to tiny little four-room houses. Plus the industrial/warehouse bits closer towards the Mill Creek put a damper on just how bougie the neighborhood can get, I think... However, Northside will definitely kick into a new phase of its revitalization when that mixed-use project in the former Myron Johnson Lumberyard at Blue Rock & Hamilton gets built, which may need to happen before that first block of Hamilton really flowers. Well, the American Can Lofts and the forthcoming Kirby School project are kind of a big deal, though they wouldn't have happened without all of the individual renovation in Northside in the past few decades. Anyway, West End. Maybe some architecture tours would get some more people interested in buying and renovating? and Brighton really is a start, apparently it's not too dissimilar from OTR in the late 80s / early 90s in terms of artists congregating because of cheap rent. Too bad that it's at the northern extreme of the neighborhood, so any growth from Brighton will take a while to affect the West End as a whole.

Cincinnati's Homeless Population
Interesting that the article says that Hamilton County has about 750 homeless any given night, with about 700 of them sleeping in shelters and the rest in places like the courthouse. I'm glad to see that they're going to hire another street outreach worker to get through to these guys, but some of them can't go to the Drop Inn Center because of past issues... what's the long-term solution here? :/

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionthat IS good news. I'm just surprised that they're saying they'll be done by May 2014. They have to install an elevator and everything, there's going to be a lot involved with this rehab.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
northsider replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI prefer calling our home the Taco District. Man, I hope someone buys the Honey space soon and does something good with it. We're missing having a really nice dining option in the neighborhood.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
Well, I do know that people had convinced the convenience stores on Vine to stop selling items that could be used to smoke crack, like Chore Boy scouring pads. But I can't imagine that you could convince people to stop selling 40s, it has to be a big moneymaker. The way to change what a store sells is to change the store's clientele so that changing the product lineup is profitable.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Yeah, that caught my attention... and it's a good example of how success builds on itself!

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Even if the Millennium does get demolished (from your lips to God's ears!), the smart play is to build another hotel on its site - generally a good idea to have a big hotel that directly connects with your convention center. anyway, the news about the Terrace Plaza is super exciting. Wondering what they'll do with the space where the department stores used to be. It's actually a great space for a data center.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Please get out and visit more parts of the USA and the world before making posts like this. In particular, visit areas where streetcars/trams operate in other crowded, urban settings. Then report back. I'm fairly certain that Quimbob was being silly. :-P

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Yeah, I agree with this completely, except can we please not use the term "urban pioneer"? It makes it sound like more affluent folks moving into urban core neighborhoods come bearing smallpox-infected blankets.
