Cleveland: Random Development and News
It's possible inspectors have extra leeway to catch mistakes by the building dept during permitting. Of course the solution is better training for the folks that review plans before issuing permits, not by giving inspectors carte blanche to go/no-go projects on site. That said, his story doesn't sound believable. Or missing context at best.

Not sure if the crown lighting is still happening. I meant you can see the main vertical strip down the side being tested.

Looks like they are working on the vertical light stripe too.

It's good they agree with what we've been saying for years that sharrows aren't bike infrastructure.

The Gardening Thread
Yep. I have a 5ft wire fence similar to the one linked above but with tall tomato trellises in sight line to discourage them from jumping in. Plus the beds are raised a foot. Deer are smart enough to realize it's not a safe landing so they don't bother.

The Gardening Thread
I wouldn't trust deer repellent. It just takes one to ignore the spray to ruin your garden for the year. If you can't fence the yard then at least fence the garden. It should be as tall as you can stomach looking at. You can get away with a 5ft fence depending on the arrangement of the garden. Things like tall bushes and tomato trellises can discourage deer from jumping in (which they can easily do). But 6ft+ is preferred.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
What is the most realistic route into Tower City without strong support from Bedrock? Route 4A seems the most straightforward, but I remember there was issue of ROW or the elevation change(?).

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Wouldn't you expect that kind of push to start with city government? They didn't have to give up authority over the CSX approach into downtown. They didn't have to agree to moving Canal road for Bedrock's site plan without stronger support for future rail lines. It isn't hindsight to be aggravated with Cleveland over the situation we're in now. Talks about bringing CVSR to downtown started years ago. That said I agree with the tone of KJP's article. Bedrock should absolutely be pushing for more rail traffic into Tower City. It's confusing that they aren't to be honest. The city though made it easy for them to veto.

I love that the flood gates opened for pics of this project. I was driving down there recently through the mud to peak through the open gate. It's quietly become a major construction site.

Sell for pennies on the dollar, then lease back at market rate. Just a huge waste of money.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
TSMC can't be the only maker of high end chips. It's in everybody's best interest that Intel gets head out of its butt and becomes competitive again in the fab space. I agree it wasn't a good look when Pat was fired. I thought they were turning a corner and the Ohio foundry was part of that. No clue what will happen with them now.

Hopefully the actual development moves quickly after demo. It sounds like the rendering was presented to allow demolition, not as a real project.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
The site plan looks good. It adds density to Detroit and a few retail spaces. Thumbs up. Regarding the want to "step down" on the southern portion, looks to me it does that already with the greenspace, parking lot, and 2 story townhomes.

This is low income housing by NRP. I would keep my expectations extremely low.

I believe Goncalves will say whatever his audience wants to hear. When speculating about what somebody like that will do, it's best to think about what is best for him.

You mean pedestrians? Yeah many residents in these neighborhoods don't want pedestrians walking in front of their house. Doesn't mean it's a good idea to vacate these alleys.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Thanks. I don't know how flexible these development agreements are, but I assume the CVSR location would be agreed upon before final approval of the master plan. The renderings show it still in no-man's land. It would also impact the Eagle Ave bridge construction which has to be in engineering at this point. Seems there is too much headwind for anybody wishing it will return near Tower City.

I'm sure most of those public comments about CVSR were from UO'ers. Was that it discussed at all during the presentation?
