Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
It was torn down as part of a development proposal for Eaton when they were looking for a new headquarters.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I wonder what the speculation that S-W has options to buy the Weston lots means for our hopes of something mixed use. There needs to be retail on St. Clair and W.3rd, and along Public Square. Is there any retail in the Landmark office building?

^ Yeah, prevailing wage is one of the hold-ups. The TMUD legislation pending through the statehouse is likely another. Developers aren't in the habit of leaving money on the table, and if there's an opportunity to lower their cost they're going to wait. Bringing it back to S-W, I have to imagine the TMUD would be applicable for their headquarters if they can manage to call it "mixed use". They may even wait for an announcement until the legislation passes.

Cross posting here. Some additional info about the Ford investment at the Avon, OH plant.

Some speculation about the future product at the Ford Avon plant. An electric vehicle that was slated for assembly at the Mustang plant in Flat Rock, MI, may instead go to Avon. Interesting to see how that ties into the closed Ford plants in Brookpark and Walton Hills. The name thrown around earlier this year was Rivian as a potential buyer, which Ford is a large investor in. https://www.crainscleveland.com/manufacturing/ford-said-shift-plans-again-underused-mustang-plant

Yes. It was approved pending further refinement of the street level below, which is what these pics are supposed to show.

This is kind of interesting. The entire Flats West Bank was rezoned in February 2018. It's being rezoned again "at Councilman McCormack’s Request" to remove the urban form overlay that was added last year. The largest stakeholder here is Jacobs, so why would he lobby to have the UFO removed, unless he thought it was an impediment to whatever development he's trying to sell. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/mc/pdf/MC2578-Public-Notification.pdf

Battery plants are highly automated. I doubt the new facility has more than a couple hundred jobs, and likely lower paying than the Cruze plant.

^ Cement board siding isn't a ton better than vinyl. And it'll be a maintenance issue as it ages, sooner than people expect.

It's possible the county was looking to build on Public Square, but that's not the same as "blocking" Sherwin Williams. That's just conjecture. The Jacobs and Weston lots are privately owned. They can build for whomever they want.

The city's permit lookup shows a building permit application from January, then some unpaid fees from the housing department in April, then nothing after that.

Looks like Symon's Lolita space is under new ownership. Transferred to 3004 St Clair LLC in September. For whatever it's worth, that address is a Crust in midtown.

The retail should be great for that area, but man I hate what they did to the facade of that building.

Clever of Sherman. Probably made up that bullcrap to fire up his teammates. Baker can't even fire back at him since they lost so badly.

Cul-de-sacs and circuitous driving are about as suburban as it gets. City street grids are supposed to be highly connected. Eliminating routes doesn't make it less suburban, it makes it more so. Those mobility options we should be pushing for can't use the towpath so they'll be forced through the center of the neighborhood. This shouldn't have been an either-or decision. The bike path and road could have coexisted, even if it were one-way the entire way.
-
Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
That's a broad brush to paint with. Reducing capacity with road diets and streetscape projects, sure, but there's no benefit in forcing a circuitous path through an already winding neighborhood.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
That cul-de-sac at the end of W.6th was nixed since they couldn't acquire the privately owned property. It's just a regular right-hand turn now. The cleveland.com article posted above had the newer plan.

Love everything about it except the park on Prospect. Prospect has a bunch of bus stops and is an important reliever for all the traffic near Public Square. A streetscape project though would be great. Leave the street grid alone and make the stretch more pedestrian friendly. If you want outdoor space just walk one block to the Square.
