Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Those are pretty sweet.

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
Litt's article had a rendering that wasn't in the landmark agenda posted upthread. So many breaks in the facade.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
The existing rental at the corner of West 7th and Jefferson, across from Tremont Place Lofts, was demolished this week to make way for Grosvenor Place, a 21 unit apartment building. Pics taken yesterday.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
My understanding is that the walls shifted when they cut the last of the fire-damaged roof. The scaffolding broke loose and collapsed, taking out the power lines in the process. Usually. ?

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
For those keeping score, Washington Place went from 4 floors with 60 units, to 4/3 floors with 50 units, to 3 floors with 44 units. Plus the first floor garage was sunken deeper so the overall height went from 54 to 40 feet.

I couldn't agree more. It would also even out the disparity of property taxes for houses in the same neighborhood. The current system discourages putting money in your property. Given the number of rentals on the market there's a disproportionate number of houses paying relatively little tax. The house next door to us is a 3 unit rental and pays about half the property tax we do. It's a complete crapbox and probably mints money for the landlord.

Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
The program clearly wasn't intended to fund new highrise construction. If you want to call that taking advantage of a loophole, fine. I'm okay splitting hairs.

Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
A developer tries to game a program to get an unusually large tax abatement and people are mad at city officials for questioning it?

Cross posting from the demo watch thread. I'm surprised it hasn't seen an article from Cleveland.com or others. There was quite the kerfuffle when the parking lot operator tried tearing this down some years ago. It went before design review earlier today. I wonder how that went. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2019/08162019/DF-DRAC-agenda-8-15-19.pdf Project: DF2019-064: 310 Prospect Ave. Demolition * The proposed complete demolition of an existing vacant building. Project Address: 310 Prospect Ave. Project Representative: Courtney Ray, B&B Wrecking Tons of pictures on the CPC website, oddly enough many of them taken 2012. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2019/08162019/index.php

Cleveland: Rocket Arena (Gund Arena)
GCC's campaign against the Q renovation, then sudden reversal was worth a follow up article. Don't know why anybody would expect that to be a positive article. Glad somebody is writing about this kind of stuff because nobody else is.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower at Erieview & Galleria Renovation
The irony of calling that area historic considering the acres and acres of actual historic buildings that were demolished to make it the miserable, auto-oriented hellhole it is now.

Cleveland: Population Trends
Exactly right. The number of units built over the last 10 years is far lower than the loss from smaller households. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it bottomed out in handful of neighborhoods in recent years.

Cleveland: Population Trends
It's still happening in these neighborhoods, not just 50 years ago.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
That's unfortunate. The request hasn't even gone through the landmark commission yet. I wonder if they'll call this an "emergency demolition order" by calling it a safety hazard.

Lakewood: Development and News
Something like a tree lawn would be great. I get nervous when I hear "setback" but some greenery along the street would look good. KFM mentioned Madison Park, here's the street view of it: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.4769506,-81.7801799,3a,75y,206.82h,84.45t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sne_d8DV3xB1RlkemkKNTvg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

That design is great. Has it received city approval?

Cleveland Lead Poisoning
Cleveland has a higher percentage of rentals, with a far lower median home value. That means Cleveland homes are less likely to have been maintained or renovated so they have a higher incidence of lead. Is there a big difference between houses two blocks away near the Brooklyn/Cleveland border? Probably not but those aren't the neighborhoods we're talking about.

Cleveland: Downtown: Realife skyscraper
Number 1 reason to be skeptical is Realife's stated goal is to re-sell it within 4 years. And other examples on their website is them flipping properties after a short timeframe. This is more speculative than usual. http://www.realife-group.com/projects/stark-building-oh/

Governor Mike DeWine
Perry and others across the country are ancient. First Energy will never build newer generation reactors so all this bailout does is pad First Energy's pockets and delay the inevitable which is Perry getting shut down. Being "pro-nuclear energy", which I am as well, is no reason to support this bill.
